Rising Sun

by New Dawn

One: Sunrise, Sunset.

The crisp wind blew through the air, signaling the coming of winter. The single creature out at that time of night shivered a little. The pure white fur showed no signs of disruption. The faded ethereal mane and tail on the being flowed in an invisible air as the being looked up in the sky. This being was one of the princesses of Equestria. Princess Celestia, Diarch and raiser of the sun. Her horn lit with a single yellow glow as she prepared to get ready to raise the sun for the day. In a single second, another being was ready to summon the sun as well. With a swish of the being's tail, a single orange circle was painted in the sky. Seconds later it burst away, revealing the sun. The Sun Princess sighed.

"You're back, aren't you, Amaterasu?"

Sakuracon- Seattle convention center - 1,000 years earlier...

"Calm down Landon... It'll be fun." I try to assure my partner.

Landon adjusts his badge and pouts.

"Yeah, but I wanted to go in cosplay." He complains.

I brush some of my black hair out of my face and put my hands on my hips.

"Then you should have not ripped your robe!"

He was originally going to be going as Waka from Okami but instead he took too long roleplaying and ripped it in half on a tree. My costume was going to be the wood sprite Sakuya from the same game, yet I didn't want to go in costume without him. Actually, My friends sometimes call me Sakuya since I look a lot like her if she was in real life... And since I love Okami so much. The art direction is amazing, I tell you!

"Let's just go. I don't want the good stuff to be gone." He moans, walking off.

"Wait up!" I shout, running after him.

"Hey! Check this out!" I shout.

Landon walks over, curious. I pick up the two halves of a necklace. When connected it looked like a full Divine Retribution reflector. I turned over the small tag on it. It had a big twenty on it. I pulled out Twenty dollars and put them on the counter. The person behind the stand took it and thanked us. I hand a half to Landon.

"Oh I get it." He smiles and puts it on.

"Watch." I say.

I take his half and my half and click them together. In an instant it flashes and a fierce wind fills the hall, blowing apart booths and stands.

"NAOMI! Hold on..." My mind fades from conciseness as I no longer feel the winds flowing against my face.

???- ???

"Come on, Wake up!"

"Five more minutes moooooomm...."

"Stop barkin' at me and get up!"

My eyes flickered open to see... a tiny pony and a Pegasus?

"Don't yell at the poor thing." The Pegasus says.

"Well, It just fell outta the sky Konohana!"

I yawn and roll into a more comfortable laying position.

"I'm dreaming... Right?" I ask them.

"Ugh... Where's a pony with an animal cutie mark when you need 'em..." The tiny pony growls.

He's green with a brown mane and tail. It does have a small streak of red in it. His wings are nearly invisible. The Pegasus is dark pink with a long black mane and tail. On her... leg... she has a picture of a konohana blossom. She looked kind of faded now that I've gotten a better look.

"Great... Just great..." I think to myself.

The two ponies reel back, startled by something.

"Huh?" I mutter.

"Let me try.... Can you hear me?" I think.

"Uh... yes?" The Pegasus called Konohana replies.

"Huh. Telepathy. Neat."

The air turns silent.

"Sooo... How do I think without talking in Telepathy? Actually for that matter how long have I had Telepathy?!"

"Well, You're kinda a wolf... With red markings.... So I assu-"

"WHAT?!"

Everfree Forest- Present Day

"C'mon Girls!" A small orange Pegasus yells, running away from a manticore.

"It's gaining!" The white unicorn yells.

I roll my eyes as I leap from tree to tree.

"I think I'll let you chase them a little longer." I say to the manticore.

"Fine... But you owe me that steak you promised!" The Manticore yells, running faster.

I giggle and leap after them. It's been a long time since I woke up in Equestria as Amaterasu. I've learned a bit about myself and this land. Turns out I can talk to the everfree animals. I've made a few contacts and a few actually worship me as their sun god. Crazy, Right? I haven't found Landon since that day... but I can only hope that he's doing fine.

Fluttershy's cottage- Present day

"NOOOOOOO!" A small white wolf howls.

"Come on... It's ok..." A butter yellow Pegasus says softly.

"SHE'S GOING TO EXPERIMENT ON MEEEEEE!"

"Twilight is a nice pony. She'd never-"

The two were interrupted by a loud crash.

"There you are~!" The crazy lavender Alicorn shouts.

"SHE'S GOING TO KILL MEEEEE!! NAOOOMMIIIIIIIII!!"

....

Yep. I'm sure he's fine!

I follow along the Manticore and the three fillies until they get to a cliff wall.

"Ok, That's far enough." I say to him.

"Bring me that steak tomorrow. I'll be in my cave." He grumbles.

"You're save now, My little ponies." I tell them.

"W-who's t-there?!" The unicorn squeaks.

"A friend."

I leap down in front of them.

"A.... White wolf?" Two of the ponies exclaim.

The unicorn looks in wonder.

"Wow... Look at your markings..." She mutters in awe.

"My name is Amaterasu. You may know me as the other sun goddess. I don't like to consider myself a goddess however.

"Why does it keep staring?" The earth pony filly says.

"I dunno. Maybe it's waiting for something!" The Pegasus exclaims.

"My sister made a fashion based on your fur!" The unicorn then exclaims.

I chuckle.

"Did she now?"

"Sweetie Belle, Are you trying to... talk to the wolf?!" The Pegasus exclaims.

"She's talking to me using... uh... Telepathy! That's it!"

"But ah don't hear anything!" The earth pony drawls.

"Only certain ponies can hear or see my markings. I'll lead you out off here."

I start to walk away, but then turn around to see the ponies in a huddle. They then split and I began to walk away, hearing hoofsteps behind me. A few minutes later we arrived at the outside of the town. The two other ponies run away but the unicorn stays.

"There you go. Sweetie Belle, Was it?" I ask.

Sweetie nods.

"I'd love for you to come visit me again. I just live in a cave not too far in. Follow the path that only special ponies can see." I say.

"But wait! May I show you around a bit?"

I shake my head.

"I'm afraid ponies won't take kindly to me being in town. Especially if you say I came from the everfree."

"But-"

"HEEEEEEELLLLPPPPPP!"

I look down the street and see a wolf run down, screaming. I think I have a clear Idea who that is.

"Excuse me for a second." I mutter.

I focus my mind and close my eyes. In the second they were closed the world through my eyes had stopped. I quckly imagine drawing two lines to look like a equal sign. Flicking my tail, the ink bursts and the world is cloaked with a sort of mist. Things slow down and some seem to fully stop. I quickly charge forward at the small wolf and grab him in my mouth. The mist fades as I leap onto the roof.

"What the-?!" I hear many ponies shout as they point to me.

"How did it move so fast!" A lavender alicorn shouts.

I put down the wolf and try to smile as best as I can.

"Hello Landon." I say.

"N-Naomi?!" He shouts, startled.

"In the flesh." I joke.

"I've missed you..." He says, latching onto me.

"I missed you too. I see you met with the resident princess of this place?" I ask.

"Princess my butt." He mutters.

"Hey. Come on. We better go before the princess goes crazy trying to figure out how "Normal" wolves have magic." I say.

"R-right. I really don't want to be someone's lab rat." He mutters.

"Somepony." I correct.

"Potato, Patato." He replies.

I laugh and recreate the Veil of Mist. We quickly ran across until we got into the Everfree.

Everfree forest- Cave of the Sun- Current time and year

"Soooo... Where have you been for the past Thousand years?" I ask once I got to the cave I was sleeping in.

"Wait, What?! I just woke up!" He shouts.

"Really?" I blink in surprise.

"Yep." He sits down and yawns.

"Still can't wrap my head around this changing into Chibiterasu thing." He says.

"Same. Have you tried to use the celestial brush?" I ask.

He shakes his head.

"I don't really know how to make it work. There's no L or R buttons here." He jokes.

I giggle a little.

"Don't worry. It took me a bit to figure it out." I reassure.

I stretch and step out of the cave to see the moon rising.

"Now watch this." I say.

Focusing my mind again, I "Drew" a crescent in the sky. It burst away to reveal the moon.

"Woah. In all my wildest dreams, I never thought I'd see something like that." He mutters.

"CURSE YOU AMATERASU!"

"AAAND I just pissed off Lulu." I mutter.

"Meh. Whoever Lulu is, they'll be alright. More fun for us." Landon laughs.

I laugh at that statement.

"Sooo, What exactly is this cave?" He asks.

"I call it the cave of the sun. It's what the ponies call it to." I explain.

I turn to the shrine deep within. Bits and food offerings have been piled up. I assume these are from the few ponies that believe I raise the sun everyday. I only do that when I feel like pissing Celly off.

"Woah. Seriously? Ponies believe that you raise the sun? Wait do you?" Landon asks.

"Nah."

He lets out sigh.

"Princess Celestia does. I do sometimes."

"What." He states.

"Did I break you?" I giggle.

"What." He states again.

"Come join when you stop sounding like a broken record." I yell as I go to the shrine.

I look through the gold coins for any of the rare gem offerings. Those usually made good lanterns when the Inferno brush skill is used on them. Welp, None to be found.

"Naomi? Where'd you go?!"

"Back here!" I shout.

Landon comes running up, skidding on the floor and into one of the two springs on either side of the shrine.

"Pfffttt...." I struggle to hold in my laughter.

"Laugh it up Furball." Landon says, using Amaterasu's nickname.

"Oh yeah, Squiddy?" I counter.

We burst into laughter after a full second of silence.

"Ahh... That was fun." He says, calming down.

"So, Want fruit or bread?" I ask.

"Meh. Bring me bread."

I reach out of the pile and flick a large loaf of bread over to him.

"Tanks." He mutters.

I reach in and pull out an apple with my teeth. I bit down with a satisfying crunch and wolfed the apple down. Pun not intended.

"Hey. So... What are we going to do now?" He asks.

"... I honestly didn't think of that... Maybe apologize to the Ponyville Princess then go on an adventure?" I ask.

"... Ok." He replies.

"Also, Mermaid springs do exist. In these kind of shrines of course." I say, wolfing down another apple.

"Really?" He asks.

I point a paw in the direction of the two springs.

"All I have to do is use the technique fountain and boom. Instant Mermaid spring." I say.

I walk over and the world stops again. I draw a swirl in the water and it reacts how a mermaid spring would react. I leap in and feel the water wash me away. I pop up in the second one. The springs stop reacting and start to flow normally.

"Wow." Landon reacts.

"Yeah. Fun for those boring days. Kinda like placing twin portals in Portal 1 and 2."

"Huh. Now I wish that Chibi learned that skill." He mutters.

"Technically you should be able to use all the brush skills, just not the secret ones. It took me a helluva time to figure out fountain." I say, stretching.

"Mh...." Landon replies, falling asleep.

"I agree." I mutter, falling down.

As I fell asleep I swore I could hear the tiny hoofsteps of a filly...

"Welcome back... Ammy."

The skidding of hooves echoed through the castle that night.

"Sister! Sister!" The deep blue alicorn shouts.

"Ngh... Luna..." Celestia mutters, pulling off her sleep mask in a golden glow.

"Amaterasu has once again made a fool of me!" She shouts.

"Luna... I know she's awake... But that was a long time ago... you most likely didn't get enough sleep... It was probably a dream..." Celestia mutters, falling back asleep.

"But..."

"Luna goodnight!" Celestia shouts, crankily.

She pushed her out with a telekinetic force and slammed the door.

"Tia is such a pain without her coffee..." Luna mutters, walking away.
