//------------------------------// // Chapter 2 (Edited by: Realm on 5/22/2015) // Story: Book 1: A Sunlight Story // by Universal Timegate //------------------------------// It was evening in Equestria. Celestia was beginning to lower the sun, and Luna began to raise the moon. Sunset awoke in the same blue and black bedroom. Taking in her surroundings, she saw that the bed sheet was on the floor to the right side of the bed, and she saw in the mirror across the room that her hair had not survived the nap. She gave a small sigh and rose from the bed. Sunset walked over to the large window and looked outside to see ponies either on their way home from work, or out to do some last-minute shopping. Her view was drawn to a large, burnt tree stump in the distance. ‘I”ll have to ask Twilight about that.’ Sunset thought as she sauntered away from the window. She gave the room one last look and, not wanting to leave one of Twilight’s rooms a mess, used her magic to make the bed before stepping out of the room. She looked left and right down the long hallway. No pony in sight. It was as if the castle had been abandoned. ‘Should I go left or right?’ she then heard a faint noise down the left end of the hallway. Going with instinct, she followed the noise. It began to increase in volume to where it became more audible, she recognised it as Spike’s voice. “Come on Twilight! You’ve saved Equestria like, 8 times. How can you not make a simple cake?” Sunset hid herself in the entrance to the kitchen. Seeing Twilight try to cook something was like watching her dance; it’s not pretty. She was about to walk back when she stubbed her front left hoof on a crystal hallway table. “Ow! Damn table!” Sunset yelped. Clenching her teeth, and cradling her hoof to ease the pain. Hearing her friends’ cry, Twilight looked to the hallway. Seeing Sunset with a look of pain, she rushed to her aid. She sat next to the harmed mare and procured an ice pack for her. “Thanks Twilight.” She said, placing the ice pack on the damaged hoof. She couldn’t help but look at the burnt object on the kitchen counter. She walked over to the object as best she could on a stubbed hoof, and observed it carefully. “Oh you shouldn’t-” Twilight tried to say. But Sunset had already taken a bite. She wasn’t tasting it for the sole purpose of eating it, she was trying to see what was missing in Twilight’s cake. Everything was there but she could tell the temperature that it was baked on was way too high. Because of the way it crumbed in her mouth. After swallowing the burnt treat, she turned to Twilight. “You set the temperature too high. Your supposed to bake a cake at 350 degrees preheated, for about 15-20 minutes or until you see it to your liking. I’ll help you make one someday to show you.” Sunset gave a smile that made Twilight wither hairs stand on end. She wanted to run up and hug her, but resisted the urge to do so. “I’ll keep that in mind. Did you just wake up?” Twilight asked, walking to the throne room with Sunset in tow. “Yeah, I did. I also got a good look at Ponyville from the window. It seems like a nice place to live.” Sunset walked a little more closely to Twilight. “Sometimes I feel like it’s a little too nice. But no, it’s not a bad place to live.” Twilight didn’t seem to notice how close Sunset was to her. But the conversation kept going until they reached the throne room. Sunset took a minute to overlook the very large room. Crystallized walls and large windows, with 7 thrones in the middle of the room with a large crystal map of Equestria. “Nice room.” Was all Sunset could think to say. “Thanks. It all came with the castle. But I still miss my old home.” Twilight said a little downcast. Sunset didn’t want to push for details. “Where will I be staying until summer is over?” Twilight was about to walk back to her room to lay down and read. She looked back at Sunset and motion her to follow. Sunset shrugged and followed her. The two mares arrived at the door to Twilight's room. Turning to look at the princess, Sunset spoke, “What was wrong with the room I was sleeping in?” Before Twilight opened the door she faced Sunset. “That was Spike’s room. He said It was okay for you to sleep there until you're concussion subsided.” Sunset gave a small ‘Oh’ in response. When Twilight opened her bedroom door the two mares stepped in, and Twilight closed the door behind them. Nervous about what was going to happen, Sunset asked again. “Twilight, where do I sleep?” Sunset didn’t want to rush Twilight. But it was getting late, and she was tired of standing. Twilight sat on her bed and thought it over for a few seconds. “Until I can find a room that isn’t being used in the castle, you can sleep here with me.” Sunset blushed lightly. She couldn’t believe what she just heard. Now the only question was to either join her or to walk out of the room. She heard Twilight say something, but didn’t quite catch it. “Sorry, Twilight. What did you say?” “I said; we’re friends, so I don’t see a problem with it.” Sunset, finding no point in arguing with her, walked over to the bed. Twilight had already claimed her spot on the bed as Sunset followed her in. They both were just mere centimeters away from each other. To Sunset, it made her feel weird. But to Twilight, it was going exactly as she planned it. They laid there, not saying a word to each other. Just laying side by side. Shifting slightly to find some more comfort, Twilight got an idea. She was going to cuddle with Sunset, in an effort to ease the mood and the awkward atmosphere within the bedroom and she hoped snuggling with her will bring them closer. She looked over to Sunset who was laying with her back facing Twilight. Sleeping peacefully. Her hooves were tucked closely against her body. Twilight scooted closer to Sunset. She could feel the heat radiating off of Sunset’s body. With great care, Twilight wrapped her wings around Sunset’s body and put her fore hooves around her waist. Twilight couldn’t see from where she was, but Sunset was smiling. Twilight then followed Sunset into a deep, peaceful slumber. -3 Hours Later- Sunset woke up half-eyed and drowsy. She was going to go back to sleep when she felt a pair of wings wrapped around her body along with a pair of hooves around her waist. She traced the limbs to its source, Twilight. Sunset smiled to herself and kissed the sleeping Twilight on her forehead. Sunset felt a sense of adoration for Twilight that she never knew existed. Sunset wrapped her hooves around Twilight’s waist to return the favor. The two mares shared a small embrace during the remainder of the night. Overlooking the night sky, her attention on the two ponies, was Princess Luna. She smiled to herself standing atop a small cloud. “Something tells me that this will bloom into something more than friendship.” Luna said to herself, disappearing into the night.
