//------------------------------// // A Day In The ER // Story: Laughter The Best Medicine // by brandsca123 //------------------------------// Pinkie was happy as always, as she bounced up to the Ponyville Hospital. Today was a special day, for she would be entertaining some foals in the emergency room. She couldn't stand the thought of foals being all sick to the point that they can't go outside. Who would make them smile, and who would ever throw them a party. Pinkie didn't like the thought, so she took it upon herself to give these kids the gift of laughter. "I do hope they like what I have lined up for them." Pinkie said excitedly. She trotted happily inside the doors and up to the desk where Nurse Redheart was. "Good morning Pinkie Pie." Redheart said to the smiling mare. "Good morning! I'm here to see the sick foals!" Pinkie said with excitement. She bounced up and down and gave Redheart one of her big smiles. "That's wonderful Pinkie, this way please." Nurse Redheart led Pinkie through some double doors. "It's not often ponies come to visit these poor fillies and colts." Pinkie just listened as she followed her to the childrens emergency room. "Thank you, I'll take it from here Nurse Redheart." Pinkie said as she went in through the door. All around her were beds filled with sick foals, some had swollen eyes and couldn't see, some had burns all over their bodies and were bandaged up. Some were in plastic bubbles, while some had the flu. It wasn't a pretty sight, but Pinkie didn't let that stop her from her goal of filling these children with smiles and giggles. "Hey there everypony, my name is Pinkie Pie and I will be giving you the gift of laughter. It is the best medicine after all." Pinkie let out a wide smile as the room filled with the sounds of pained groans and coughing. One small colt who was hooked up to a life support system stared at her with sad eyes. "Please, kill me. I can't stand to live. It hurts so much." The colt said. Pinkie just walked over to him and pinched his cheek. He groaned in pain. "Don't worry silly, auntie Pie will make you feel all better." She then trotted into the center of the room to get the show started. The young colt groaned painfuly. "Lets start by givving all of you some balloons, won't that be fun." She said. The same colt from earlier groaned again. "Please, kill me." He said. Pinkie ignored him and started blowing up balloons. She gave him a blue one. "Here ya go mr. frowny face. I bet this will cheer you up." She smiled. "Please miss, it hurts, kill me." The colt groaned. Pinkie went up to a filly that had the mumps. Her face was all swollen and she couldn't see out of her eyes. "Here you go, I'll give you a nice red one." Pinkie smiled. "I was blind at birth, so I don't know what that is." The filly said. "It's a color silly." Pinkie said happily. "I still don't know what that is." The filly replied. Pinkie went around handing everypony a balloon, then she finished and took out a toy microphone. "I'm sure my jokes will make you smile." She said. The room filled with the sound of foals in pain. The colt from earlier said. "I'm begging you, please kill me." He was crying now and in a lot of pain. "If I did that then you wouldn't be able to hear my jokes silly." Pinkie giggled. The colt groaned again. "Now then, a friend of mine the other day told me to always give 100%, unless your donating blood." The room was silent. Pinkie didn't stop though. "A colt told me he was looking for a bite, so I bit him......." The room filled with the sounds of pain again. Pinkie was starting to have second thoughts. "Ummm.....Why did the chicken cross the road?......Because he....wanted to get to... the other side." She chuckled nervously as the room went quiet. "Please, kill me." The colt groaned again. Pinkie looked around nervously and she backed out of the room. "Well......I'll see you later then." She left the room and went back through the double doors. "Did you have a good time Pinkie?" Nurse Redheart said. "Yepper's. Though I think one of the colts in there needs some help, he kept obsessing over death." Pinkie said with a smile. "Oh, that's little billy," Redheart said, "He was brought here after an accident with a hotair balloon which left all his bones broken. The poor dear can't seem to find the will to live." Pinkie just stared and smiled. "I guess I'll go then." "See you later Pinkie, that was a nice thing you did back there." Redheart waved goodbye. "Thank you, I'll be back some other time okay." Pinkie said as she left the door. Nurse Redheart just smiled before going back to her work. "What a nice mare." She said. Pinkie was walking through Ponyville when she was stopped by Rarity. "Pinkie darling, I heard that you were entertaining some sick foals. Please tell me how did it go." She said. Pinkie sighed and said, "It was horrible Rarity, none of the children laughed at my jokes, and one kept asking me to kill him. I'm never going there again." Pinkie was obviously upset. "Oh come now Pinkie, I'm sure they're laughing and smiling right now. You did a most wonderful thing going to visit those children so you shouldn't feel bad." Pinkie felt better after she heard her friend say that. "Thanks Rarity, I guess I'll do the same thing tomorrow. That young colt had better get ready to smile because next time I'm going to tickle him." She giggled and went on her merry way down to Sugarcube Corner. "I hope they like my special cupcakes." Rarity only smiled and she too went on her way. "I'll guess I should make those foals some clothes, it must be boring wearing those musty old hospital clothes." Rarity said as she made her way to her boutique. THE END. A/N: This was an idea that came into my head one day. I thought what would happen if Pinkie went to entertain some sick foals.
