The Krastos Logs

U.N. Commander Megan Williams: Uncovered History

[DOCUMENT TRANSFERRED: 02/02/2077 (Celestial Year: 997)]

I’m hoping that the Unknown do not intercept or that if they do that I have enough of their favor and you have enough of their trust that they will ignore it. Unknown Soldier Number Seven monitoring me gives me a measure of assurance this will be the case. Perhaps he will modify this document. That is a constant risk I am still growing accustomed to.

Mark, we’ve got a problem. These things are beginning to target us. Vigil Platoon was lured into a trap. Only Unknown Agent Juno and Pony Soldier Inductee Boomer came out unscathed.

Obviously, Juno is not talking but the other survivors refuse to speak. I couldn’t even just look up what happened because the Unknown have confiscated all video and audio records. They are keeping this as secret as possible.

No one is saying what happened. Everyone is afraid of the Unknown. I have never seen the Nine Unknown Men act this way.

Only Boomer was willing to say anything but even he had to meet me in private.

He told me that there was some sort of meeting. It went sour as soon as the human members of Vigil Platoon arrived. The enemy immediately focused their attacks on the humans saying something about “The Athereals.” The ponies were only hit as a result of protecting any wounded humans. This likely explains why Boomer was not hurt as he was paired with Juno. Juno, in spite of having no powers, is still an Unknown Agent and more than capable of taking down any opponent. Given Juno’s skill and Boomer’s powers, I can imagine why the two proved to be so troublesome.

To be clear, I do not doubt the effectiveness of your units. The enemy had likely brought over one thousand combatants with them and Vigil Platoon held their own for the most part. It was simply that a few of the enemy were unkillable. Boomer mentioned blowing one up with a spell and the creature reforming unhindered. Vigil Platoon shot and stabbed the creatures until each of our soldiers were wounded or killed. It is certain that without the presence of Juno and the assistance of Jack, there would have been no survivors. To elaborate, if it indeed was a coincidence, it is fortunate that the U.N. mission I assigned for Jack happened to be so close to the battle zone. His assistance bought the survivors enough time for an Unknown Soldier to arrive and eliminate the remaining immortals.

Boomer is uncertain how the Unknown Soldier attacked and killed several of the immortals. I will admit to being unsurprised at this. Even when they were briefly under my command during various U.N. peacekeeping actions, I was never really able to understand the Unknown Soldiers and their capabilities. It is not out of the question that the enemy immortals would be vulnerable to them.

I feel the need to bring up several odd parts to the story which Boomer swears by.

While nothing the ponies did could affect these immortals, a few humans managed to punch or tackle them in a desperate attack. Any damage done by a human in this fashion was permanent.

One soldier managed to remove the horn of what looked like an alicorn. The alicorn’s horn did not reform though this did not prevent it from using its magic. It seems all the creatures could use magic even if they were not creatures normally capable of those kinds of feats.

Boomer was certain that at least one of the enemy combatants was an undead legendary warrior. Much as Stratos reported, the legend possessed all of the abilities they had when they were alive but was a slave to the controlling creatures.

When Jack arrived to assist, his blade cut down the immortals with ease. For some reason, Jack’s attacks were lethal even though there is nothing to suggest this should be the case.

I’m sure the Unknown know what’s going on. I’ve had enough of their secrets. I’m not letting them hide.

As soon as I got the information from Boomer, I decided to do a little digging. When I could not find what I wanted, I got Unknown Soldier Seven to look the other way. With Greeg’s help, I hacked into their database and took any information regarding Krastos and these “Athereals.”

Unfortunately, there is little on Krastos. Its appearance coincided with the reign of Discord. It was hostile towards Discord. Discord was afraid of it. As soon as Discord fell, it began to relentlessly assault Equestria at every opportunity. On a related note, Krastos’s followers are called Reclaimers. Many of them are immortal. There are differing degrees of immortality. Most can be killed by conventional methods. There is a way to kill the ones that are not supposed to be able to die.

This is all I was able to find. My research on the other topic proved much more valuable.

When I looked at the nuances behind the Athereals, I realized a few notable facts. This might seem hard to believe but these “Athereals” predate Equestria. There was also something related to a group of Archmages the Athereals frequently interacted with. These Archmages are related to something that I was able to translate as “The Divines.” That translation is probably not accurate but it was the best Greeg and I could do.

I was able to find almost no information on The Divines until Eagle, by chance, handed me something. From what I gather, The Divines were some sort of group of gods. They had a great deal of influence and many warriors under their name. They disappeared well before Discord or Krastos arose but their creations and those under these creations have taken up their mantle.

I have reason to believe some of these living constructs are still around. I have no idea whether this is a good thing or not, yet I do know it is related to us and the Unknown in some sort of way.

Mark, maybe you’ve realized this but the Spectrum Bridge makes no sense. Both of our Earths are moving through the universe at incredible speeds. Both celestial bodies have their own orbits and systems. In spite of this fact, the Unknown were able to create a portal that places us right on top of the surface of the planet. That is impossible unless they knew this world existed before they began the experiments over ten years ago.

What is more, the Equestrians should not know any form of the English language or of recent human culture. In the past, the ponies had their own language and writing. In the present, somehow they forgot about humans but have adopted a great deal of human culture. There must be some reason why this occurred. Again, I feel it must be related to The Divines.

Whatever is happening is far older than we realized. These beings have been acting long before Krastos was dreamed of. And the Unknown are part of this somehow. I am not certain if this is some sort of ongoing struggle or just the latest event in a long string of battles against the evils of this world.

With all I know, I feel like I am in the dark more than ever. This is frustrating but I cannot say I am surprised.

I am not sure if this will change your mind. I just thought you should know.

With that considered, I am unofficially allowing you to use the Omicron units. I will deny all knowledge of it if it comes to my attention. It bears repeating, don’t misuse them. They will not question orders. If you order them to destroy the wrong target, you won’t have time to correct your mistake. They are the only group I fear fighting as much as the Unknown. However, you should deploy them.

Of course that is if you aren’t using them already.

We know how the staff will react to Vigil Platoon’s situation. It is certain that they will want revenge. I believe that might be a part of the Unknown’s plan. They could have used any country or the United Nations itself, but they know of Armor Incorporated’s track record on dealing with threats to its employees.

This attack and these casualties will not go unpunished. The company will do everything to boost morale. Vigil Platoon will be reformed. I imagine your appointed CEO, [REDACTED] Base, will promote Boomer and place him at the platoon’s head. Given his personality, the results should be interesting.

Needless to say yet must be stated, the Unknown plan to place your company and its employees between the Reclaimers of Krastos and the land of Equestria.

I know many personnel would not mind this fact.

To be honest, I’m not sure I do either.
