//------------------------------// // Good Night Moon // Story: Past Dreams and Nightmares // by Crystal Night //------------------------------// Since Princess Luna return to Equestria everypony lived peacefully except for one pony, Princess Luna. During her sleep she struggles to fight Nightmare Moon. Every so often she would wake up in the middle of the night, sweating and her hooves shaking. Luna told about this to her sister, Princess Celestia, which also Celestia would stay up late, just to check on Luna. The Princess of the Sun was a little worried about this issue. She feared that Nightmare Moon was again trying to corrupt her sister. Again. "Just leave me alone!"- growled Luna. Standing right in front of her, stood a black mare wearing a blue armor. Again, she was facing her worst nightmare, literally. Nightmare Moon was looking at her with a menacing look. "Come on Luna, we're friends now."- said Nightmare with an ironic tone. Luna looked away from her. Taking a quick glance at the place she was, it seemed to be really old and almost falling apart. The celling had a huge hole, stone pillars spread all over the place. A few spider webs. That place also had flags with the symbol of the Moon and Sun. They seemed to have been worn by time. Nightmare took a few hoofsteps forward. "Don't you recognize this place?"- she asked with a sly grin. "Yes, yes I do. We are at the castle of the Royal Sisters, in the Everfree Forest."- Luna thought for a while. "Another nightmare I see." Giving Nightmare an aggressive look, Nightmare on the other hoof, she giggled softly. Luna raised an eyebrow. "Why is she giggling?" Nightmare looked at Luna, she could see she was confused by that. "You're right, except this isn't a nightmare. Actually, it's just a normal dream like any other." The Princess of the Night was even more confused now. Nightmare's expression suddenly changed. Nightmare sighed and with her magic, she took off her helmet. Almost with a graceful look, she spoke. "We need to talk."- while she lifted a hoof motioning to follow her. Luna followed Nightmare through the castle hallways with some caution. Nightmare didn't said anything for a good couple of minutes. She was starting to grow impatient from the situation. In a normal night or dream, she would force herself to wake up, getting out of her bed and go around the castle to clear her mind. Her sister, Celestia every so often, could see Luna trotting through the gardens. She was ready to speak, when Nightmare opened two big wooden doors leading to outside. Luna took a quick glance at the garden, it's been years since she haven't seen that place. Such great memories she made while living there as a little filly. Celestia always helped her before. "Big sister"- she remembered with a small grin. Nightmare turned her head back to see Luna smiling. "Good memories, I assume?" Luna nodded with some hesitation. Now, standing in the middle of the garden, Nightmare summoned a circular blue carpet with a moon symbol. She laid down and invited Luna to join her with a smile. Not evil or something like that, just a normal smile. The moon shined brightly above them along with the stars, almost winking at the two of them. For a dream it sure seems almost real. Nightmare took a long deep breath before speaking, she knew what she was about to say would be hard, even for her. "I brought you here for a reason Luna."- she paused for a few seconds. "Maybe you won't believe me, but I feel the need to say this. Both of us suffered a lot because of my actions." Luna listened carefully to every word she was saying. The dark mare looked down at her hooves, returning to her conversation, she spoke. "We spend a one thousand years on the moon, you had a life and I ruined everything." She glanced at Luna eyes, seeing herself. "I almost killed your beloved sister." Luna couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Was she apologizing?"- she though when she heard Nightmare crying. Tears fell from her face. She placed her head between her front hooves. Nightmare was delaying this conversation for a long time, she needed desperately to said that. The Princess with a warm smile, placed a wing over Nightmare's shoulder pulling her closer. She lifted her head to glance at Luna. "It's my fault too, I let my emotions get the best of me."- Luna stated while she wiped her tears. "I was jealous of my sister and because of that we paid a high price for our mistake." Nightmare rested her body next to Luna, feeling more relaxed. Her head was under Luna's head. Her wing was still over Nightmare. Both of them shared that moment, what appeared to be like hours gazing at the stars. But Nightmare still a question in her mind. "Luna, can you possibly, forgive me for what I done?" She muzzled her neck earning a few giggles from Luna. "Maybe."- she said with a smile. The two of them spend the rest of the dream telling jokes. Luna said Nightmare how Equestria changed a lot during their absence. Nightmare asked for the new keepers of the Elements of Harmony. The dreamtime was almost ending, this time standing in front of the castle, they gave each other a huge hug. "Good night Luna."- said Nightmare with a smile. Luna smiled back at her. "Good night Moon." And with that, she was gone. Nightmare still had her smile on her. "Thank you Luna." Spreading her wings, she flew off towards the moon. Returning to the real world, Luna woke up. She heard a knock on the door. "Please, come in!" Celestia entered her bedroom with a smile. "I can see today you slept well, did everything go alright?"- she asked. Most to her surprise, Luna was hugging her. "Everything is just fine." The End
