//------------------------------// // An angry father and the broken window // Story: The Sky has no Rhythm // by Moonlight Flight //------------------------------// Chapter 1: An angry father and the broken window. As I reached the bottom of the stairs worry hit me, my father would constantly get angry and take it out on me. Whether it was getting swore at, beat up, grounded or him saying “I wish you were never born.”. I dealt with it. It all hurt but what was a little filly supposed to do? I was broken down into thinking that I was useless and there were thoughts about ending it all, but what was I going to do if it failed? I shook my head and gather up my courage as I walked around the corner. There he stood looking angrier than ever, when I looked into his eyes I could feel his rage and it felt like my soul was burning. Then he spoke “Come over here.” Out of fear I listened and stood where he was pointing. “Look at what you’ve done!” he yelled pointing at a broken window. “But I was upstairs this whole time how could I do that?” I asked. I looked back at him and he raised his hoof. I knew what was coming and I flinched, but nothing followed. He chuckled a little “You think I’m going to hit you?” “Isn’t that how you usually do it? Punish me for something that I didn’t do?” I replied. “Oh no your just going to stand in front of that window and stare at it.” he said as he turned around and took a sip of his amber drink that he described as “The best beer in Equestria.” whatever that was. I did as I was told, I turned and faced the window. “However for that lie there will be a punishment.” he said before he lifted his hind legs and bucked me across the room. My body hit the wall and I fell to the floor. I tried to stand up but my body wouldn’t let me, and then my dad started walking towards me. “Why do you always…” was all i caught coming out of his mouth before my brother stepped in front of him. “What...Why do you do this? I can tell you she was upstairs when you broke that window! You take it out on her because she can’t stick up for herself. Why don’t you take it out on me?! I don’t want to hurt you son, and she is different from us can’t you see? Dusk look at her she is a pathetic pegasus and we are unicorns. She is useless to us.” my father replied. “Pathetic? You wanna know what’s pathetic, you are and you will not touch her anymore.” Dusk replied. I watched as his horn lite up and a bubble surrounded us. He turned to me “It’s going to be alright.” This was the last thing I heard before I slipped into unconsciousness. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Several times I was able to pull out of sleep and into reality, but I didn't see much except my brothers back, the grass, and another pony with a grayish blue coat and an amber yellowish mane. It had bubbles as a cutie mark, but that was all I seen before going back to the darkness. When I finally awoke it was night and I was in great pain. Trying to get my bearings I looked around but all I could see was trees and a little fire. Once more I tried to stand but couldn’t. “No don’t try to move just yet. IT’s alright there isn’t anything that can hurt you anymore.” A voice said. It sounded like silk so soft and calming. I had to believe it. I could tell that the pony was female but that was about it. “Where…” I tried to say but my body hurt to much to speak. “Shhh.” the voice said “We’re far away from your house and in the woods. Don’t try to speak just sleep.” I looked for the voice but I couldn’t turn around to see the pony that was talking. I got my head to move back a little but it hit something, and that when I realized that the pony was laying behind me. I could feel the warmth of her body against mine, it was a sensation that I have not felt. I wanted to get closer, to feel more than just warmth, I wanted to feel loved, but my body didn’t agree. She must have known what I wanted because she moved closer. “Is that better?” It was, even though a sharp pain shot through my side. Something moved over my body and I gathered up my will and looked down to see a wing covering up my body. Whether it was there to keep me from seeing the rest of my body or to give me warmth, I didn’t care. I felt something that I haven't in a while since mom disappeared. I felt protection and love, and to make things better I was in company of another pegasus. It felt great, whatever my dad said was wrong. I am useful especially if I grow up to be like her. “Comfortable?” she asked. I nodded my head, once again pain shot through my sides and I lost my breath. It quickly returned with an ache that ran along my left wing. There was little silence before the mare began humming a tune. Her heart was like the bass to her voice, and the two combined made a beautiful rhythm. I closed my eyes to imagine a world without this misery, and before I knew it I fell once again into the darkness.
