To be a Stallion

Why we fight

Rainbow Dash soared across the sky bored to death. She was tired of practicing her tricks. No new Daring Do book coming out for months. There were no challenges left for the greatest flyer in all of Equestria.

For Applejack there was always something to do on the farm. The work never ended and some days she simply wished it would. Applejack sat in a shallow ditch and fixed a retaining wall that some tree roots had pushed over. Another day, and another mindless task to complete.

Rainbow had no real destination as she cruised at altitude. As the orchard of apples grew before her she began to search. There in a ditch sat her friend wearing the trade mark hat. The desire to tease overcame the boredom and Dash began her descent.

Celestia had granted Applejack another fine sunny day, and it was hot. Cutting back the roots was hard labor and now rebuilding the wall in this heat was going to make her melt. Any distraction right now to take a break for would be a good one.

Rainbow sailed in to hover over the earth pony. “Wow, now there is a surprise, Applejack is working.”

Applejack looked up at the pegasus, “A surprise would be Rainbow Dash doing any work at all.”

“Hey!” Dash exclaimed. “I do a lot of work. I just get it done faster than you.”

Applejack laughed, “Flying around pushing clouds aint work ya featherhead!”

“What did you call me?” shouted Rainbow.

“Featherhead,” replied Applejack calmly, “Ya know ‘cause your head is full of feathers.”

“Oh, yeah?” questioned the pegasus.

“Yeah,” she replied with a smile. Applejack watched Rainbow Dash shoot off into the sky. That was easy, she thought to herself before returning back to work on the wall. She didn’t notice the sky darken, but welcomed the relief from the intense heat. Applejack couldn’t help but notice the loud thunder, pouring rain, and a pegaus’ laughter. She looked up to see Rainbow Dash had returned.

Dash shouted down, “You’re a mud pony!”

Applejack sat in the mud and laughed. “Is that the best you can do? I’m an earth pony. When it rains I’m a mud pony. When it stops I’m an earth pony again.” She pointed a hoof at her friend. “I do take back what I said earlier. No matter the weather you will always be an air head!”

That was it for Dash. She dived down off the cloud and tackled the farm pony. Soon the two of them were wrestling in the rain. Each mare was trying to get the better of the other one. When they came to a stop Rainbow Dash found herself on her back underneath Applejack.

“I’m the stallion,” Applejack said smugly.

“I don’t think that’s possible AJ,” replied Rainbow. “You don’t have the right bits.”

“Shut up,” responded Applejack. “I’m on top and you’re on the bottom. So I’m the stallion and you’re the mare.”

“You think so?” asked Dash

“Ah know so,” answered Applejack.

Rainbow pushed Applejack off with her fore hooves and flipped over to dive on the fallen pony. Applejack was ready for her. They each grabbed mane and kicked flanks as they rolled in the mud. When they came to a stop Applejack found herself on her back under Rainbow Dash.

“Now I’m the stallion!” Rainbow stated loudly.

“Funny thing sugar cube,” retorted Applejack. “I don’t feel no stallion bits pressing on my belly.”

“Shut up!” commanded Dash. “I’m on top and that is all that matters!”

“Is that right?” asked Applejack

Dash smiled and answered, “Eeyup.”

Applejack bucked Rainbow off of her, but before she could escape the earth pony bit down on her tail sending the pegasus face first into the mud. Applejack jumped on top of her and the two of them were soon rolled around in the mud. They bit each other’s ears, pulled tails, kicked and screamed. When they came to a stop Applejack was looked down on Rainbow Dash. “I’m going to buck you so hard you’ll have to walk ‘cuase you won’t be able to fly.”

“You think you can do that?” Dash asked.

“Eeyup,” Applejack answered.

Dash flexed her wings and tossed them both into the air. She followed Applejack back down into the mud. They slapped faces, gouged eyes, and pulled manes. After the two of them rolled in the mud for a bit they came to a stop with Rainbow Dash on top. “I’m going to buck you so hard you’ll eat carrots.”

“Carrots!” shouted Applejack. “I’m neva gonna eat no carrot!”

Dash smirked, “I say you are.”

Applejack bucked for all she was work sending Dash into the air. Rainbows wings were too caked with mud to fly so she dived down on the down on Applejack. Each pony was slick with mud so neither could get a good grip. They rolled and around as they tried to grapple their opponent. Legs flailed and curses were sounded. When at last they came to a stop Applejack was surprised to find herself on her back under Rainbow Dash.

“I’m the stallion.” Dash stated clearly.

“I reaken you are,” replied Applejack with calm.

“Wha…” was the stunned pegasus’ reply.

“You won fair and square,” explained the earth pony. “You took me two in a row.”

Rainbow looked down on her friend and then rubbed a muddy hoof across the end of Applejack’s muzzle to reveal orange colored lips. Applejack returned the favor to Rainbow. After a pause Dash leaned down and kissed her hard as a stallion should and Applejack’s lips were soft like a mare’s ought to be. After she broke the kiss she sat back up. “All that competition, racing, wrestling, and fighting was just my way to prove I was the better stallion.” Applejack just nodded. “You were trying to prove the same?”

“I guess I was RD,” she answered.

Dash nodded, “I’m the stallion now, but I still have mare needs.”

Applejack smiled, “So do I sugar cube, so do I.”

Rainbow leaned down and kissed her again.

Two ponies side by side walked from Sweet Apple Acers to the Ponyville market right up to Carrot Top’s stand. “Good morning Rainbow,” she said politely. “Hello Applejack,” she offered with a bit of hesitation. Applejack just nodded to her greeting. “What can I get for you today?”

“I’d like one of your biggest ready to eat carrots please,” said the smiling Rainbow Dash. She watched Carrot Top hoof one to the counter. “How much?”

She answered, “They’re three for two bits.”

“Just need the one.” Rainbow laid two bits on the counter and hoofed the carrot over to Applejack.

Applejack raised the carrot to her mouth and took a big bite. She watched Carrot Top freeze in shock. After she chewed and swallowed she announced, “That is right tasty!” Carrot Top fainted while Applejack finished the carrot.

“I can’t believe you never ate a carrot before,” commented Dash. “Does that mean you’ve never eaten Fluttershy’s carrot cake?”

“Of course not,” Applejack answered. “It has carrot in it, but I just might have to give it a try now.” The two walked away from the carrot stand. “Want to go back to my place and hoof wrestle to see who is first stallion?”

“No, I thought we could go visit Twilight right now,” answered Dash.

“Not that I mind sugar cube, but why?” Applejack wanted to know.

Rainbow looked at her, “It’s about your hat.”

Applejack stopped short, “What is wrong with my hat?”

Dash stopped walking, “I thought it could use an enchantment.”

Applejack started to get angry, “Why would I want an enchantment on my hat?”

Rainbow shrugged, “You know, cloud walking might be nice.”

The anger drained from Applejack as she blinked a few times. The earth pony walked forward and Rainbow Dash walked with her, “A visit to Twilight sounds just right to get this day started.”
