As I flew towards the castle, I made one final burst of power propel me forward, I just hope I'm not to late to save the girls. Before I made contact with the castle's wall, I quickly blinked out of existence and appeared in an old and empty throne room.
"You'll never get away with this, Nightmare Moon!" My ears perked up when I heard Twilight's voice, followed by evil laughter right behind me.
"Insolent foal, I have already defeated you and your pathetic friends!" Nightmare Moon boasted, cackling maniacally as Twilight struggled in her tight grasp around her throat, kicking helplessly as the alicorn mare choked her. "And the night shall last... FOREVER!"
Nightmare Moon pushed Twilight against a wall and forced her lips against the struggling mare's. Twilight gasped for air as soon as Nightmare Moon pulled away, licking her lips as she looked down at her.
"I will enjoy making you my slave," Nightmare Moon said, smiling cruelly as she glared into Twilight's fear filled eyes. "after I'm through with you, I'm going to kill your pathetic friends."
"P - please, no." Twilight begged, but Nightmare Moon forced her lips against hers again and began tearing her clothes off. I heard Twilight begin sobbing as the alicorn mare began fondling her - I shook my head, I must help Twilight!
I was about to stop Nightmare Moon's assault on Twilight, but I sensed something faint behind me... I - no... I was to late....
Applejack and the others lied motionless and bleeding on the floor. Tears began leaking out of my eyes, dampening my blindfold as I fell to my knees. I saw what went through their minds before they were taken by darkness... their friends, their family...
Gently taking a hold of Applejack's limp hand, one of my tears fell on it. But I was too heartbroken to notice as I bowed my head.

I suddenly felt something spark within me. I felt the burning determination and fiery fury of the War Horse, burning hotter than the fires of hell and blazing brighter than the sun itself!
I gently placed Applejack's hand over her chest and got up with new found power, the burning fury of my own kind running in my veins. I turned around to face Nightmare Moon, face - to - face.
"Let her go." I said angrily, approaching the surprised alicorn mare and Twilight.
"S - Steven... what are you... doing here?!" Twilight managed to gasp out, still struggling in Nightmare Moon's tight grip.
"Oh, who's this little colt?" Nightmare Moon asked in an amused tone, letting Twilight fall to the ground and curl up. Nightmare Moon walked over Twilight's trembling form and stood in front of me.
I growled before taking a menacing step forward.
"This ends now, Nightmare Moon. You may be a goddess of the night, but you're NOT a true god!" I said angrily, getting into a fighting stance.
"Ha! How can a blind colt like YOU fight me?" Nightmare Moon asked in a mocking tone, bursting out into laughter.
I pointed my finger at her as she looked at me in curiosity. I pressed my thumb down and Nightmare Moon screamed as she was violently flung back by my telekinetic blast.
"Y - you insolent little... How dare you!" Nightmare Moon bellowed, as she shakily stood up.
I just glared at her, motioning for her to come at me.
Nightmare Moon fired a bolt at me. I grunted as I caught it in my hands, spinning around and throwing it back at her. The alicorn mare grunted as the bolt slammed her into a wall, her armor lost a few pieces as she got back up.
Twilight was now looking at me in surprise. God damn it! shit, now she knows. What do I -
Nightmare Moon shot a beam towards me, I quickly blinked out of the way and fired my own back. I smiled as the alicorn mare stumbled backwards, she can't escape my aura tracking bolts.
It felt like I was playing catch and dodgeball again, at the same time! But this time, the balls are lethal and explosive!
"Schadenfreude." I whispered, concentrating on feeding on all the alicorn mare's energy, while I passively regenerate strength and energy from the earth and air around me.
Me and Nightmare Moon traded blows and blasts, her aura started weakening more as I made her use up all her energy to get me.
I caught another electric bolt and absorbed it, before releasing multiple bursts of bolts from both my hands with my electrokinesis and pyrokinesis.
Nightmare Moon staggered backwards, her helmet clattering to the floor as her back bumped into a wall as she regained her balance. I can sense her aura weakening even more.
Nightmare Moon summoned an ethereal sword and swung it at me. I simply dodged it and used my psi fists, swiftly gutting her as she crumpled to her knees.
I jumped backwards as she swung her sword, missing my face by inches.
"Stay still, little colt! I'll make sure your end is quick and painful." Nightmare Moon growled as she glared daggers at me.
She swung her ethereal blade again, hoping to cut my head off. I dodged the alicorn mare's attack and slid on the ground with my hands clasped together as I blinked under her legs.
Oh god, forgive me for doing this to a woman....
"Būm!" I shouted, pushing my glowing hands upwards.
Nightmare Moon shrieked as she was blasted up to the ceiling and crashed back down to the ground, her face contorted in pain as she screamed silently, holding her mare parts as she writhed and twitched on the floor.
"Twilight, are you alright?" I asked, as I made my way towards her.
"S - Steven, look out!" Twilight yelled, I sensed something coming my way and instinctively blocked Nightmare Moon's ethereal blade with my hand, shocking both her and Twilight.
"What... impossible!" Nightmare Moon screeched angrily as she tried to pull her blade away from my hand. "What kind of colt are you?!" the alicorn mare asked in shock.
"I'm the one who intervened and ruined your plans, wench." I said boldly with a proud smirk.
"It was you! unhand my blade, you fool!" Nightmare Moon screamed in anger.
I focused on all my energy and turned my hands into psi blades, vaporizing the ethereal blade I held. I quickly jabbed my psi blade at Nightmare Moon, but she managed to dodge it and teleported a few feet away.
"Twilight, do whatever you're doing while I distract her!" I called to the stunned mare as I fended off Nightmare Moon, but she kept teleporting away.
I quickly blinked beside Twilight and tried to snap her out of her shock. "Come on, Twilight. There has to be another way we can beat her!" I said encouragingly.
"On no you don't, I refuse to be beaten again!" Nightmare Moon bellowed, her eyes and horn glowing with intense power as Twilight covered her eyes while I kept myself from being blown back.
What kind of aura is this?! Nightmare Moon was gaining more power from the night! This aura isn't earth based, it's a cosmo! It... it feels like a god damn nightmare right now!
"Oh... my... Celestia..." Twilight whispered, trembling in fear.
I turned my head to her, my face scrunched up in disgust as I felt my hoof get soaked from a puddle forming under her legs.
Nightmare Moon growled in her new body, causing the entire castle to shake as dust and debris fell. By the gods, that nightmare bitch had transformed into a god damned dragon!
"Twilight, run while you still can. I'll fight this bitch myself, go!" I shouted to Twilight, pushing her to the exit of the throne room.
'Applejack, girls... this is for all of you!' I promised to them.
With the vicious battlecry of a War Horse, I charged at the former Nightmare Moon with my psi blades.
The mare turned dragon roared as I swiftly approached, both of us roaring in unison.
I kept jumping, blinking, and flying around Nightmare Moon's giant form as she growled and tried to swipe me off. My psi blades are doing a very good job cutting her scales off.
I continued to slice and stab at the alicorn mare's reptile skin, while using my psychokinesis to sabotage her mind. Can't let her have any ideas now, could I?
I can already feel Nightmare Moon's aura growing weaker and weaker... I gasped when I realized that this isn't Nightmare Moon! This was an alicorn mare that has been possessed by a demon!
I hopped off of her head as she hammered herself, causing me to snicker. Nightmare Moon stumbled around before raising a claw to strike me.
I prepared to retaliate, but I remembered Twilight. Nightmare Moon seemed distracted, it looks like our battle has been stopped.
I suddenly sensed a very powerful aura behind me and turned my attention to it, Nightmare Moon's draconic eyes widened in horror for some reason.
I was shocked to see Twilight and the girls, all floating with glowing jewels attached to them. There was suddenly a powerful rainbow beam that swirled around me before striking Nightmare Moon's giant form as she roared for the final time.
That rainbow beam felt familiar somehow... I remembered the book mentioning about burning leaves and guardians protecting a tree, a king and a queen looking down lovingly at me as my vision turned white.
What was that? who are those two? could it be king Maximus and queen Silvia?
I was brought out of my trance when I was suddenly embraced by Applejack, aunt Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and aunt Rainbow Dash.
"Oh, Steven! What were y'all thinking coming here?" Applejack asked in a scolding and worried tone while Fluttershy nursed my scratches from my fight against Nightmare Moon.
"Family always stick together no matter what." I said firmly, receiving nods of approval from aunt Pinkie Pie. "And I'll never leave them hanging!" I said, startling Fluttershy as I stood up while Rainbow Dash smirked at my declaration.
"You girls were always kind to me, the only thing I can repay you with... is my own life for yours." I said with a sad smile, the girls gasping in shock.
"S - Steven, don't say something like that!" Rarity exclaimed, holding my hand in hers.
The girls voiced their opinions as well, leaving Twilight silent and standing in the corner.
The girls and I turned to the sound of moaning. An alicorn mare lied on the ground and stirred as she slowly started to regain consciousness. It looks like it's my time to leave, looks like a certain alicorn mare of the sun is coming.
I took a few steps back, the girls looking at me as I stopped under a large broken window, the moonlight shining down upon me.
"We were always there for each other, always have been." I said, smiling to the girls before flying out the window and into the night sky.
