0: The Mission
After the events involving a Cosmic Parasite, James kept being "Equestria's Scientific Advisor", until he could return back to his universe and his home planet, Earth. But for now, this was his home. Twilight and his friends accepted him as a friend as he worked on his latest experiment.
This experiment he was working on was something that was considered a gift from The Character, one that seemed familiar to him. Yet, he could not place his finger on it and decided to continue his work.
That was all about to change
James was home, working on the formula one day, trying to work on the super formula, hoping that it would lead to a magnificent breakthrough. One that would lead to his ultimate breakthrough.
Suddenly, there was a puff of magical smoke before it solidified as a paper scroll with Celestia’s Official Sun Symbol on the paper. James opened it and looked at the message made for him.
He then looked up dramatically, realizing one thing.
IT. WAS. IMPORTANT.
Celestia called James to the Canterlot Throne Room to talk to James about a new mission, to which he hurried it along to Canterlot to talk to her. After the guards allowed him in, he quickly ran into the throne room, since it appeared urgent, at least the letter gave off that appearance.
The door busted open as James quickly ran down the aisle until he was standing in front of Celestia and Luna. "You... *huff* wanted to... *huff* see me Princess." James said, slightly out of breath. He then made a mental note to himself about physical activities, meaning exercise.
Princess Celestia smiled at him, while Luna lightly chuckled, finding James' antics amusing, mostly because he was exaggerating on his expressions. "Yes, well," she started, "It's good to see you James. The reason why I brought you here is for the fact that I've decided to give you a mission, the same one my student, Twilight Sparkle is on." she said. James was slightly confused on what she meant by that. As far as he knew, Twilight wasn't on any mission, but instead was one of the Mane Six who protected Equestria.
"Your mission, besides protecting the Mane Six, is to learn the Magic of Friendship." Celestia said to James. He looked at her, then remembered why Twilight was writing to Celestia when moments were crazy, at least that's what he noticed. "You are to report on what happens, and to tell us what you've learned while learning about the friendship of magic.” Celestia said.
James seemed confused for a moment, before realizing what she meant. “So, you want me to learn about the power of friendship by basically hanging out with my friends?” he asked, to which Celestia nodded. “And I can also do a few of my experiments?” he added
“Yes," Celestia said, "but you’re main mission is to do the former, the latter should be your hobby.”
James smiled his trademark goofy smile, before saying. “Well, that’s easy. I’m already doing that.” Celestia and Luna looked at each other before turning back to the young scientist.
“You will also need this.” Celestia said, handing James a small metal rectangle with the symbol of Celestia’s Cutie Mark. James opened the top, realizing what it was. “A Zippo Lighter?”
“Not just that, it’s a message sender.” Celestia said, to which James added, “Kinda like what Twilight has with Spike.” Celestia nodded, before smiling at James.
“Don’t worry Celestia, I won’t let you down… just don’t expect the friendship reports to come flowing in like water.” James said. Celestia nodded, before James turned and happily ran back to the car.
Thus, James’ mission began, to help protect Equestria and learn about the magic of Friendship.
But nothing said that it was going to be simple...
