//------------------------------// // Adventure Begins // Story: Adrenaline // by I-couldnt-think-of-anything-clever //------------------------------// [Author’s note: This is my first ever, it’s a self insert, after seeing so many, I couldn’t resist, please give me good feedback, or any feedback at that, and enjoy. One more thing, in the story, all of the ponies are people, but the pegasi have wings, unicorns have horns, they’ve just been humanized.] *A cruiser is a shortened longboard, usually a little over 2’ long. My name is Allen, I’m 6’2”, brown eyes, long straight brown hair down to my nose, but swept to the side, Caucasian but with a modest tan. I’m slim, a runners body if you will, a small 6-pack graces my abdominals. On a beautiful Saturday morning in April, while we are vacationing in Colorado my brother, (who I just call Cj) walked up to me while I was watching tv, “Dude, I found a sick bike trail when I was running yesterday, you wanna check it out?” he asked. “I’m game” I said as I got off the couch. I got dressed in a pair of black exercise shorts, a white running shirt with blue stripes, and my signature reflective aviators. I managed to pack some of my other toys, like my cruiser*, a Swiss army knife, survival bowie knife (hey, you never know), and my 32gb Ipod of course. After I got all packed, I walked outside to see that he had already locked the bikes onto the rack and was sitting in the car. “Glad to see that you got your shit together for once” I smirked as I threw my bag into the back seat of the convertible. “What is that, the 10th time you’ve said that?” he said with a slightly dirty look. “Yea, yea, I know, do you have my hoodie?” “Its in the trunk, why do you wanna bring it?” “I’ve got plans for afterwards, and its gonna be cold tonight” “Shit, I forgot, let me get mine” “Alright, just hurry up” I told him, which ended to conversation, as he ran back into the house while I settled into the car. After waiting a few minutes, he jumped in, and we were off. “Wake me up when we get there” I said as we turned onto the highway. “Gotcha” He retorted. I faded out as Highway to Hell began to play through the speakers. 30 minutes later, I was woken up abruptly and I instinctively looked around. We were in the middle of a dirt opening of a clearing in a lush wooded area, brimming with wildlife and plant life, with only a one-way entrance/exit. “Where did you find this place again?” I questioned my brother. “When I went running, why?” He gave me a funny look. “Dude, you run in the weirdest places” I laughed at him. “Probably, this place looks long empty, shall we begin?” “After you my liege” I joked. After we strapped on the extra gear onto the bikes and double-checked everything, we headed out onto the one path that was available. Flat area, high gear; hills, low gear, brace foot to ground on sharp turns. This trail isn’t so bad I thought to myself, but soon we reached a fork in the path. “Which way?” Cj asked. “Ill flip a coin” I told him. I pulled out my dollar coin and tossed it into the air. “Heads right, tails, left” I decided whilst the coin was in midair. I caught it and swung it onto the back of my right hand and looked to see the result. “Right it is.” I said while I positioned my bike to the correct angle. “You lead this time,” Cj told me. “Alright, you ride too slowly anyway” I joked as I took point. As we rode down the winding trail, I got a strange feeling from the surroundings; I felt something eerie about the place. Just as the feeling dawned on me, I snapped back into reality to notice a sharp left turn, I can recover, no biggie I thought to myself as I took the turn but was shocked as I fell down a huge drop. Cj managed to brake before he suffered the same fate. I picked myself up off the ground and thought to myself ok…where did that come from. Once again I checked my surroundings. I landed in a miniature clearing, surrounded by shrubbery and trees. The drop I fell from was about 8 feet tall. “Grab on, Ill pull you up,” Cj said as he brushed off the slight shock. “And leave my gear behind? Hell no.” I told him “You go on back, Ill find a way back, and hitch a ride home, alright?” “Sounds like a plan, when should I expect you back?” He asked. “A week, tops, now bring me the camping gear” I said. “On it” He told me with a grin. Now, if I may say, this may not seem like such a good idea, but for us, its kind of normal. We get ourselves into a sticky situation, and we have to split up for a period of time, then so be it, over time, we realized the longer the time apart, the better the story when we get back. So far the longest one of us has been out was one month. Back to the situation at hand, I tried to see if I could force my way through the think brush, and I managed to find a small opening. As I went back to get my knife(What’d I tell ya) Cj showed up with the bag of extra camping gear that we always keep in the trunk, along with my hoodie. “There ya go” He said as he tossed down the equipment. “And here’s the med kit too” “Why do I need that?” I asked. “See for yourself, Ill see you later bro, can’t wait for the story you get out of this one” He mused as he got on his bike and left. “Huh?” I checked my person “I’m surprised that I didn’t break anything, but what is he talking abo-…..oh” I paused as I noticed a large cut down my right arm, and another going up my left calf. Lets get to work then.
