Even if she wasn’t actually trying to scare me, the way she looks now allows her to do it no matter what. “W...wh..wha...what about?” I ask, stuttering a bit. “A lot of things. I assume you’ve heard of the drug known as ‘Velocity X’, so I’ll cut to the chase. From numerous reports of the incident earlier today, you exhibited the main effect of the drug while also showing a symptom that is not known as a side effect of ‘Velocity X’.” “The lightning surrounding my body before I passed out”. I muttered, still wondering where she was going with this. “Correct, Mister Force. As you know, ‘Velocity X’ is banned for use by anypony or anyone in Equestria. The curious part of this is simply this: You are the only pony to check out clean or not show any sign of withdrawal. Nor any form of psychosis. “‘Velocity X’ is something I’ve tried to counter for a long time, and if you will consider an offer, I make sure you will not be subject to testing for anything.” “What kind of offer?” I ask, puzzled by her phrasing. She sounded completely calm, like this was rehearsed or something. I really couldn’t tell if this was a set up or anything as Princess Celestias’ face didn’t show any sign of emotion. “Training. I want you to harness the speed you’ve somehow acquired. I will notify the one I have in mind to train you, but only if you accept my offer.” “And if I refuse? No offense your highness, but how do you know that wasn’t a fluke?” I asked, because she seemed so sure I could move a fast as a pegasus at will. “I have my sources Mr. Force. But I will assure you this: Nothing will happen from mine or my sisters’ end. However, there will be ponies and other creatures that will stop at nothing to find out how you did what you did. “Make no mistake, this is a choice that is a one time offer. If my source is correct, and I have no doubt it isn’t, Your speed will be the key to stopping some very deadly forces in the future. If you were to train yourself in the use of it, I believe you would be capable of doing what amounts to the impossible. Even for the fastest pegasi in Equestria. “But, you have to willingly take this offer. The speed you’ve been granted is something that must be focused, if not for saving ponies or other creatures and civilians, then at least for you own safety.” Princess Luna then spoke up. “Fate is very fickle about things like this. Seemingly ordinary ponies can gain power far beyond anything we’ve seen before. The question is ‘What will you do with this power?’. I’ve seen the  fate of three ponies that have had their lives changed when that bolt of lightning struck you.” For some reason, she didn’t look as frail as I pictured. I knew she’d been crippled and confined to a wheelchair due to the battle with Tirek. However, she seemed much less broken than I thought she’d be, and only her hindlegs were atrophied. The rest of her seemed normal. “Fate? look, let’s say I believe you. What you’re saying is still way out there. Why should I believe you?” “Lightning, Fate is what must happen. However, Fate can only go so far. Your destiny, even gods can’t tell you your destiny. You must choose what your destiny will be. Right now, you have a choice to make. “Do you want to go back to being just a CSI scientist and investigator, or, do you wish to do something more. The best advice I can give you right now is to think about our offer.” At that point, I looked over to Iris. There was a pleading look in her eyes. She wanted me to consider this. Funny, I know I’d do anything for her. Iris, despite her overprotectiveness of those she cared about, still only wanted what was best for me. I relented. At the time, I really thought my speed was a fluke. But, if I did have “Super Speed”, it wouldn’t hurt to at least know the basics. “Alright, fine. I’ll meet whoever you want me to. Just- Just let me take a walk to clear my head. It’s been a long few days.” And with that I left the room. Like I said earlier, at the time I really had no clue if the speed I had was a fluke or not. I’d soon find out the it was more than anything I’d ever thought possible. Cloudsdale, Wonder HQ: Captain Rainbow Dashs’ office. “Look Cap, I swear I didn’t do it on purpose. Please don’t kick me off the team because of one mistake. It’ll never happen again, I promise.” The Cadet begged. ”I’m not kicking you off the team Cadet Cyclone. Look, rules are rules, and I just can’t let you be a Wonderbolt because of your powers. Meta powers are dangerous, and could put the team or yourself in danger. “I’m going to be frank here. You are one of the best of you class, and if not for the fact your powers developed at the wrong moment, you’d be a Wonderbolt.” Rainbow stated as coolly as possible. “So, I can’t be a Wonderbolt because of dumb luck?” “Unfortunately, yes. You aren’t the only pony who can’t be a Wonderbolt because of the rules. Cadet Heatwave can’t be a Bolt because of his mother being on the selection committee, due to the fact it would be considered Nepotism. Only reason he’s allow to even try is because there is no rule that prevents him from trying. “This is most likely what you weren’t expecting. Both you and Heatwave can at least be transferred to the Meta Flyers Corp. It’s all I can do for you,” She said, bowing her head slightly. “The Meta Flyers Corp Ma’am? I’ve never heard of it.” Cyclone asked. Though he was devastated by the fact he couldn’t be a Wonderbolt, the fact that he could still be apart of something similar gave him some hope. “It’s a new group that the princesses have formed. Suppose to be a more combat oriented branch of the Sky forces, focusing on meta based incursions. It might not be what you wanted to do with your time in the Force, but at least you’d be apart of something. “Just… just think about, Ok.” With a sigh, and to Rainbow, a sullen expression, Cyclone left her office. ‘Damn, knew he’d take it bad. Stupid rule ruined a lot of dreams these past twenty odd years. Sucks I can’t do a damn thing about it, except give a chance to do something other. Buck it, just once I’d like to give somepony like Cyclone and Heatwave some good news’ She thought as she felt to mood in her office turn sour. She would have stayed sulking at her desk longer and mourning the loss of one of the best Cadets she’d seen in years, if she hadn’t noticed a letter addressed to her from the desk of Princess Celestia. ‘What the hay? Last time Celestia sent me a letter, it was to get me to perform a Sonic Rainboom for the anniversary of the rediscovery of the Elements of Harmony five years ago. Well, I haven’t see everypony in three years anyway. Guess I should at least see what they’re up to after this training cycle is over.’ Dash though to herself as she opened the letter, hoping it would take her mind off of what had happened with Cyclone. “Dash? You alright?” A voice asked. “Not really Soarin’. Just had to tell the best cadet in the class he can’t be a Wonderbolt because of his, unknown until today, status as a meta.” She grumbled. “And then I have to tell Cadet Heatwave he can’t be one because, not only is he a meta, but also because Spitfire is on the Approval committee and the Captain is his aunt. Do you realize what that would do to him?” “Crush his dreams completely? Dash, he’s our nephew. It’s not like we or Sis haven’t told him the rules about it. Heck, you yourself barely avoided his fate by marrying me after I transferred over to Sky Force HQ as a Major and Spitfire was appointed to the selection committee before that. Plus the  fact that Spits and I are twins and tried out at the same time prevented us from having to deal with the nepotism rule. “What’s really wrong? Is it the fact that the anniversary of it is coming up. Blaming yourself for things you can control isn’t good for you. You couldn’t prevent it, just like you could have prevented Cyclones’ and Heatwaves’ predicaments.” Soarin stated, wondering how the mare he married became this obsessed with preventing things she knows she couldn’t even if she tried. “Maybe it’s the stress of the job getting to me, or maybe I’m just sick of just of watching the dreams of my cadets being crushed because of a fluke of nature that they can’t control. Maybe I’m just sick of not being able to do anything about it. “And yeah, It is bothering me. I should of been there. Not flying in a useless parade for some snob, just so he could boost his ego. I might not have been able to save her, but I could of at least caught the damn jerk who did it.” “Dash it isn’t healthy to do this to yourself. It wasn’t your fault. “Look, I’ll see you at home. Will talk then, maybe talk about getting you some help with this. Loyalty is admirable, but not to the point of losing your sanity.” “Fine, I guess I do need to do something about this. Since it happened I haven’t really felt like myself, haven’t even felt like doing thing the way I use to.” Dash told Soarin before he left. Still, she had a few things to finish before she left ‘Man, I’m old. When I was 19, I saved the world on several occasions with the Twi, Rares, AJ, Pinkie and Flutters and didn’t bat an eye. Now look at me. I’m the strictest Captain the Wonderbolts have ever had. Since when the buck did I follow rules?’ ‘Maybe whatever’s in this letter Celestia sent me can take my mind.’ As she finished opening the letter and start reading, she wonder if it was a prank. She had to re-read it twice to make sure it was correct. As what was written was processed, she had to wonder how it was even possible. “She wants me to train a… Unicorn? That is actually faster than me? “WHAT THE BUCK?”
