A Dazzling Tale

The Process of Approval

We walked into history class. We had a good few minutes to kill before class actually started, so I took the time to introduce Sunset to Sonata. But of course, Sonata was being a complete weirdo as usual.

"Heya, Dagi! And nice girl I don't know the name of!" Sonata said, waving cutely.

"Hi," Sunset said with a bright smile and happy wave.

"My name is Sunset Shimmer, and you're Sonata, right?"

"Yep! That's me alright," Sonata said. "I'm Sonata Dusk!"

"Sonata, this is my new friend, Sunset Shimmer," I said.

"Aww, you're so cute, I wanna squeeze your little cheeks off!" Sonata said to Sunset as she reached to grab Sunset's cheeks. I slapped Sonata's hands down.

"Sonata, don't be so weird," I said.

"Oh, I need to introduce you to my other friend," Sonata said, ignoring me. She reached into my hair.

"Ow! Sonata what're you doing? You're pulling my hair," I said. She pulled a stuffed pony plush out of my hair.

She held it out to Sunset Shimmer. "This is Mr. Miggots," Sonata said with a grin.

"Um, he's cute," Sunset said, forcing a smile.

I walked up to her.

"Sorry, she's strange like that," I said. "And, apparently she stores things in my hair."

Sunset giggled. "It's fine, I have a friend like that named Pinkie Pie, except Pinkie's a bit more insane," Sunset said.

Sonata's face turned bright red.

"Pinkie Pie, eh?" Sonata said, "my rival in cuteness!"

I gave her a quizzical look. "This is only your first day here, how do you have a rival already?" I asked.

"Especially considering it's only sixth period," Sunset said.

"It was 13:56 P.M. and the young Sonata Dusk was walking to her fifth period class-" the bell rang right as Sonata was beginning her story.

'Saved by the bell, literally,' I thought.

I exhaled a sigh of relief. Sunset looked relieved as well.

Our history teacher, Cranky Doodle (I know, it's such a weird name), walked in and class began. I sat next to Sunset again and Sonata sat a little father away from us. As Cranky spoke I began tuning him out because I was uninterested.

Sunset leaned over to me. "So where did you get your necklace anyway?" she whispered.

"This is school, I came here to learn," I said sarcastically.

We laughed quietly.

"But really, where did you get it? It's so pretty," Sunset inquired.

I began sweating a little. It's not like I could tell her the truth.

"I got it from my parents, so I don't know where it came from," I lied through my teeth.

"Oh, then, what about Aria and Sonata's necklaces?" Sunset pried (she wasn't actually prying; it just felt that way).

"My parents gave them to us to symbolize our friendship, and we wanted a matching accessory so it could be like a symbol for our band and symbolize we're bandmates," I lied.

"Oh that's so cool!" Sunset whispered.

We turned our attention back to Cranky. It was only a few more minutes until the hall break before our next class.

The bell rang to end class. Sunset, Sonata, and I all had the next period together with Aria Blaze. Aria was the last one I needed to introduce Sunset to. After school the girls and I would make a decision as to whether or not Sunset could join the Dazzlings.

Of course, if Sunset joined us, she'd never be a full-fledged member of the Dazzlings. We would only be using her; we'd take advantage of her insecurities and exploit those weaknesses to get her to do our bidding.

'Yes that's exactly what we'll do,' I thought.

Sunset practically skipped down the hall. She must really think I'm really interested in being her friend which was perfect for what I was planning. I had an extra stone for a pendant too, if we happen to sway her goodness. She and Sonata seemed get along well, which would make things easier, because then we could outvote Aria.

"Dagi, keep up! You're lagging behind!" Sonata said.

I quickened my pace a bit. We rounded a corner and saw Aria.

"Hey, Adagio and Sonata and, oh?" Aria glanced quizzically at Sunset.

"What is she doing here?" Aria said contemptuously.

Sunset glanced at me with a look that read "Should I be here?".

"Don't worry," I said to her. "Aria, this is my new friend, Sunset Shimmer," I explained.

"Yeah, back off, Aria!" Sonata said.

"Pardon me, I thought she was some creepy fan-girl stalking you all," Aria said with a wink at me.

"Yes, no worries there," I said, "ahe and I have all of our classes together so we've been walking with each other."

"Oh, in that case, nice to meet you, uh, properly. I'm Aria Blaze," Aria said.

"I'm Sunset Shimmer. Glad to meet you, properly," Sunset said.

"She and I working on a project together in our mythology class," I said.

"Sounds interesting. What are you doing your project on?" Aria said.

"I was thinking Sirens, maybe," Sunset said.

The girls and I exchanged shocked glances. Did Sunset Shimmer know something about us?

"That's not a bad idea," I said.

I wanted to see just how much she knew about Equestria and if she knew anything about us.

"Well, we'd better get to class. Come with us, Aria," I said.

We walked off and Aria followed.

My plan was going extremely well, there were just two issues: Sunset Shimmer seemed to know about Equestria and she was friends with one of the opposing bands.

I could barely contain my excitement. Ever since I got here, my heart's been racing. I was ready to mull a few things over tonight. It's been so crazy.

I was going to enjoy this next class. It had to do with music. Sunset told me the entire class was going to perform in front of the whole school in honor of the musical showcase this weekend.

"Hey, do you think maybe we can not make this one a competition?" Sunset asked.

"Sure," I said. I'm being a bit lenient so I can convince Sunset Shimmer we're nice and get her to side with us.

The teacher offered to let us skip since we're new, but the girls and I couldn't pass up a performance opportunity. Dare I say, we rocked it and pretty much stole the show. After that was finally the end of the day.

To be completely honest, I actually had fun today. We had so many laughs. Something told me it wouldn't be hard to convince the girls to allow Sunset into the group if necessary.

We all walked down the hall confidently. It was like a scene from a movie, kind of. As we walked down the hall I heard students muttering to each other about how we were hanging out with Sunset Shimmer. Apparently she's got quite the reputation around here; what that reputation is, I don't know yet.

People stared at us condescendingly and Sunset would shrink back. I would stare down these jerks as they stared at us. They couldn't meet my gaze. There was absolutely nothing that could faze or sway me.

"So, Sunset Shimmer, I think the four of us should exchange phone numbers," I said.

"No kidding?!" Sunset exclaimed.

"No kidding," I said.

"Let's do it then!" Sunset said.

We all exchanged phone numbers.

"Hey, I'll text you our address. So you can visit whenever," I said.

"Yeah, we can have fun like this all the time," Aria said with a bit of enthusiasm. How unusual.

"See you tomorrow, new bestie!" Sonata exclaimed.

"See you tomorrow, unless you wanted to start on our project today," I said.

"Nah, this was your first day. We'll get started tomorrow," Sunset said.

We walked out of the school laughing after Sonata sent us all a group text consisting only of taco emoticons.

"Hey, maybe we should walk home together," Sunset suggested, with a bit more confidence than earlier.

"Girls?" I said.

The girls nodded in agreement.

We walked home together. It was so strange, but the girls and I were all so at ease around Sunset Shimmer. I'm somewhat puzzled by it, actually.
