Sisters Forever: Chapter 3: Grandma's Final Goodnight

Story Summary: The prequel to "Temporary Home". Scootaloo and Emerald have not always lived on the streets. This is the story of how they ended up living in that abandoned warehouse.

Chapter Summary: Grandma dies when Scoot is visiting and Emy moves in with Peddles and Scoot.

ABOUT TWO YEARS LATER

"Ain't it Emy's turn ta visit ya?" Apple Bloom asked Scootaloo.

Scootaloo was once again waiting at the train platform with her fellow crusader red-maned.

"Normally, yes. But Grandma is sick so I'm visiting them." Scootaloo said calmly.

A shrill whistle suddenly muted all other noises.

"See ya on Monday, Scoot!" Apple Bloom called out to her friend as that said friend boarded the passenger car.

ONE HOUR LATER

When Scootaloo reached Canterlot she saw Emy. She face was wet with tears which continued to flow out of her eyes. Her tears were silent though. Scootaloo had not seen her wear this face since...

... Since their mom passed away. The pieces were now all coming together. She ran up to Emerald with the upmost concern.

"Emy, Emy is Grandma alright?" the orange pegasus urgently asked her sister.

She was answered with a shake of the head.

"She's really sick, Scoot. They don't think she'll last the night." Emy said mournfully.

"Can we go see her?" Scoot asked.

Emy just nodded in response. Emy and Scoot then climbed on to their scooters and sped off towards the hospital.

"Girls, don't cry. I know soon I'll be gone but that doesn't mean I truly left." Grandma told her sobbing grand fillies. She was met with confused expressions from both fillies.

Her coat was very pale with patches of it missing and only a few of her once glorious mane still lingered on her head. She was struggling with every breath she made but she tried her hardest not to show her pain. She wasn't fooling anypony, though.

"Here, these are for you." the dying mare said her frail hooves handed the two fillies each a necklace with a sunstone pendent in the shape of a heart, their deceased mom's namesake.

"When I'm gone a ruby pendant shall also be there along side the sunstone." the old mare told them in between coughs of blood, "My time is almost up, girls. Emy, you are moving in with your granddad. One more thing before I join your parents, I love both of you. Never forget that."

"Tell them we say hi." Emy said trying to suppress the tears that were building up in her eyes.

"Of course I will" the dying mare said trying to keep the up beet mood but failing miserably. These words were her last.

She then burst into a coughing fit, hacking out blood with every cough. This alerted a nurse who then came and asked the two fillies to sit in the waiting room for a few minutes. She was to escort them to the train station.

LATER THAT NIGHT

Scootaloo and Emerald Glow now sat in the passenger car. The ride back to Ponyville was deafeningly silent. Neither filly dared to make a sound nor move a muscle. It was as if their lives depended on it.

Suddenly the fillies were enveloped by a red aura. When it settled a ruby teardrop sat on the chains of both their necklaces.

The sight of the red teardrop made teardrops of their own fill their eyes. Grandma was gone.

Sorry this has taken so long! I've been having school work so its kind of hard to focus on writing. And yes, they both have scooters for transportation. It's the only way Emy can get around with out falling every five hoof steps. She is ok on the scooter. I mean, Scootaloo owns scootering and I'd never take that away from her!
