//------------------------------// // Chapter 3 - Party Foul // Story: The Great and Powerful Failure // by Sarizon //------------------------------// As Pinkie and Trixie were making their way through Ponyville, Trixie would notice every now and again that a few ponies would stare at her, and they would either seemed afraid or angry at the light blue pony. Not that she could blame them. It wasn't that long ago that she tried to enslave them all. Trixie tried to ignore them as best as she could and continued to follow Pinkie's lead. After a few minutes, Pinkie and Trixie arrived at Pinkie's home. From the first step in, Trixie was overtaken by the sweet aroma of delicious treats that Pinkie has created overtime. "Pinkie, this place is fantastic," said Trixie. "Why thank you!" replied the prideful Pinkie. "So what do you want to make for the party, Trixie? We can make anything you want!" Trixie gave a look of confusion. What treats she wanted to make? It wasn't even her party. "M-Me? I-I'm not sure... I've never made treats before." Pinkie eyes grew wide from being so shocked by what she heard. She's never met a pony who hasn't made anything sweet before. "WHAT!?!?" Shouted Pinkie, "You've never made treats before!?! Everypony should make treats atleast once!" Pinkie noticed that Trixie began to look down after what Pinkie just said. Pinkie didn't want to make the poor pony more saddened than she already was. Pinkie decided to shrug off the thought. It wasn't really that big of a deal anyways. "It's okay Trixie. I'll tell you what, let's makes some of my favorites for the party: cupcakes and rock candy!" When Trixie heard Pinkie say rock, all it reminded her of was the time she worked on a rock farm. She still has nightmares from that place. Pinkie, wondering why Trixie didn't respond to her, began waving her hoof in front of Trixie's face to grab her attention. "Um..Hello? You okay?" Questioned Pinkie. Trixie snapped out of day dreaming and gained focused once again. "S-Sorry Pinkie, I remembered a, not so fun, memory... Sure, let's make some cupcakes and rock candy," said Trixie. Pinkie could only clap her hooves and smile. Trixie was quick to add, "I hope you understand if I mess it up." Pinkie shook her head and said, "Nonsense! There's no way you can mess up a cupcake. Speaking of which, let's start with those." Trixie gave a small smile and nodded. Pinkie walked Trixie over to the kitchen table and showed her the ingredients. Pinkie then began to show Trixie, step by step, the process on how to make a tray of cupcakes. Trixie was very intrigued by how much went into making such a delicious treat. The more Pinkie went into steps, the more Trixie became interested. Once the ingredients were fully mixed, Pinkie poor the batter into each tray hole, then shoved the tray into the oven. Pinkie grabbed another tray and slapped it onto the table. "Now you try, Trixie!" said Pinkie. Although Trixie was excited to get started, she was still skeptical that something would go horribly wrong. "But, what if I-" Before she could finish her sentence, Pinkie replied"Don't think about messing up. Just make some to your best ability. While you're doing that, I've got a call to make for the party later tonight. I know you can do it!" Trixie nodded, and Pinkie began to walk towards the phone. Trixie took a deep breath and began mixing the ingredients. As Trixie was following the instructions, she could hear Pinkie dialing a number. after a few seconds, the other line picked and Pinkie began to talk." "Hey Vinyl. It's Pinkie! I have a party that you just HAVE to DJ at..." Not wanting to be too nosy, Trixie went back to mixing the ingredients and tried to follow every step correctly. Trixie, to her surprise, was actually having fun. However, when she got to a certain step, she stopped. Trixie needed some flour, but it was across the room from her. Not wanting to interrupt Pinkie's conversation, she decided to use her magic to float the bag of flour to the table. Trixie struggled, as her magic wasn't as strong as other ponies. She managed to get the bag of flour over the table, but then something caught her eye. Trixie noticed that a bee made its way into the kitchen from the window. Trixie has never been fond of insects that fly, especially bees. Trixie instantly backed up, and shut off her magic from her horn, not realizing that the flour she was carrying was right over the table. As expected, the flour contained in the bag fell all over the table, and even worse. The flour was everywhere, and even worse, the ingredients pages were scattered. Trixie panicked and didn't know what to do, as she couldn't remember how much she needed for each ingredient. Trixie tried her best to remember what the sheets said. Trixie thought to herself, "Um..Um, let's see... Was it 2 cups of flour or 4? Was it 4 or two eggs? Oh no..." Trixie wanted Pinkie's help, but Pinkie was still on her important phone call, and Trixie didn't want to be rude, so she just guessed and mixed ingredients as close to what she thought was the right amount. The cooking timer rang, and Trixie quickly took the finished cupcakes out and then slid her tray into the oven. Needless to say, she was worried what might happen. After a few more minutes, Pinkie got off the phone and walked over to Trixie, who was staring at the oven, expecting the worst. "So! Were you able to get the recipe right?" asked Pinkie. Trixie replied, "U-Um, yes I believe I did." "...You... Think you did?" Asked Pinkie. "Well... I may have just mixed the batter to my best ability. You see..." Trixie then pointed to the now covered kitchen table. Pinkie focused on the floury mess. She wasn't mad, but was confused as to how it happened. "Oh you should've just grabbed my attention, Trixie. I would've put the other line on hold. It's okay though, as long as you managed to get the recipe right, it should be fine!" "Um...." "What is it Trixie?" asked Pinkie. "...That." Trixie pointed at the oven, which was now oozing a battery mix through the creases of the door. "Um, Trixie..." "Yes, Pinkie? "Did you put in six cups of flour?" "... Cups?" Pinkie's eye grew wide. "How much did you put in Trixie?" "...Uh... Six pounds." "What?!?" Shouted Pinkie, "Why would you put in si-" Before Pinkie could finish, the oven door popped open, and soon the kitchen's floor was completely filled with an mixed mess. Pinkie looked over the mess that she would now have to clean up. Trixie felt awful and said, "I'm so sorry Pinkie! I-I can clean it up for you!" Pinkie sighed and said, "It's okay. I should be able to clean this up soon enough and get back to work on making the rock candy and cupcakes." Trixie replied,"O-Okay. Do you want me to try the rock candy instead?" Pinkie looked at the mess again, and said,"Uhhh, I think I'm fine. Thanks though." Trixie began to feel horrible and looked down in shame. Pinkie noticed this and began to feel bad for Trixie. "Don't worry Trixie, I'm not mad at you. I'm sure Rarity has something you're good at for sure!" "Trixie, still looking down, replied,"I guess so." Pinkie tried to lift her spirits. "Don't worry! You're definitely a pretty pony, so you'll fit right in with Rarity!" Trixie looked up and smiled. "Thanks Pinkie," said Trixie. Pinkie gave Trixie one last hug, and Trixie was off to Rarity dress shop. Pinkie looked at the mess, and thought she might as well taste the batter. She took a spoon full and put it in her mouth. Pinkie dropped the spoon, and her eyes grew wide. She had never tasted cupcake mix this delicious before. Right there and then, she knew what she would be using for the rest of the cupcakes. She certainly had enough mix for the cupcakes, thanks to Trixie. Peeking through the window Rainbow Dash saw all that occurred and tried her best not to laugh at Trixie's mess up. Rainbow Dash knew she just had to tell Applejack, and after Trixie left, she began to fly to Sweet Apple Acres.
