Scrying And Screaming

Discord was lying dazed on the ground. His head was throbbing from the hit. How three fillies could pack so much speed and force into an impact was something he probably would never understand. His ears were ringing and as it was starting to subside, he could hear faint arguing.

’’Yeh shoulda been more careful where yer goin’, Scoots!’’ He lifted his head slightly to see a bright yellow earth pony filly with a pink bow in her red mane reprimand an orange pegasus filly with a frazzled purple mane. He relaxed and allowed his head to drop to the ground so he could compose himself before standing up. Those fillies felt familiar to him, he didn’t know why.

’‘Geez, Sorr-y...’’ The pegasus filly said, drawing out her words more than neccesary. She walked over to her tipped-over scooter and inspected it for damages. Another filly, but this one was a unicorn and was white and had a light purple and pink mane. All of the fillies had no cutiemarks.

’‘But Applebloom, it wasn’t like Scootaloo meant to crash into that stallion.’’ She pointed a hoof at Discord’s whimpering form. Scootaloo started nodding furiously.

’‘Jus’ be more careful next time, ‘kay?’’ The earth pony filly walked to her friend and helped her get it standing like it was supposed to. Discord groaned and decided that it was time to get up. The girls jumped slightly as they saw him beginning to stand up. When he was standing at full height, he was easily towering over the fillies. He stretched his neck to its full extent and scowled. The fillies all gulped at the same time.

’‘That hurt.’’ Discord said in a menacing tone. He now recognized the fillies to be the ones who caused the ruckus 6 years ago that allowed him to escape from his prison. He had forgotten to thank them before he was turned into a statue again.

’‘We’re sorry...’’ They said again at the same time. He didn’t know how they managed to say and do so much in sync like that. ’‘Especially Scootaloo, since she’s the one who crashed into you.’’ The unicorn filly pointed a hoof to her pegasus friend who was grinning sheepishly and looking everywhere but in his direction.

’’Is that so..?’’ Discord arched an eyebrow and casted a glance at the filly she was pointing at.

’‘Eeyup!’’ The filly Discord had understood to be Applebloom chirped, wanting to be a part of the conversation.

’‘Well then.’’ Discord grinned madly and took a few menacing steps towards the cowering pegasus. The filly was trying hard not to shake, it wasn’t going that good. ’‘What do you have to say for yourself?’’ Discord slowed his pace and stopped right infront of her, looking down at her with a sly grin across his features.

’‘I’m s-sorry for running you over back there...’’ Scootaloo stood up on shaky legs and straightened herself, assuring herself that nothing bad was going to happen to her.

’’No harm done. Apology accepted.’’ Discord said with a shrug as he turned swiftly and walked away from the fillies.

’‘Wait!’’ Applebloom shouted at Discord and trotted after him.

Discord groaned and turned to look down at the filly standing next to him. ’‘What now?’’

’‘This may sound weird but can th’ girls an’ Ah see yer cutiemark?’’ Applebloom beamed at him with an enthusiastic tone.

’’Uh...’’ Discord didn’t know if he would allow it, heck, he didn’t know if he even HAD a cutiemark to begin with. The filly standing next to him pouted and made her best puppy-dog stare at him. He was an ancient spirit who’s entire being was composed of chaos and disharmony; yet here he was, slowly caving in due to a puppy-dog look from a young filly. This was a new low, even for him.

’‘Ugh, fine.’’ He rolled his eyes and turned to his side and moved his cloak slightly but not so much that his wings would be exposed. The fillies eyes widened at the sight of his mark.

’‘Cool...’’ Scootaloo muttered, slowly raising a hoof to touch it but placed it back on the ground after a second thought and a stare from Discord. He craned his neck so he could see the mark for himself. It was a red circle with 8 arrows that had slightly crooked tails protruding from the middle. He had to admit that it was pretty cool. After a quick look at it, he turned away from the fillies and walked away, ignoring their calls for him to stay and tell them how he got it. He snickered and levitated a carrot from his cloak.

’’Two outbreaks in such a short time?!’’ Celestia exclaimed after Luna had explained the situation to her.

’‘Yes, the guards are working to scry his energy and find his location.’’ Luna paced around in the large throne room adorned with red carpets with gilded edges. Banners with the marks of both of the regal sisters were hanging from the high ceiling. The enormous glass windows were letting the suns rays dance into the room unhindered. ’’We should know his of his whereabouts sometime tomorrow unless something interrupts them. Otherwise they will have to start over.’’

Celestia scratched her chin, lost in thought before she spoke up. ’‘When they have figured out where he is, you and me will go out to intercept him before the Elements do, as we’ve planned.’’ Celestia stood from her throne and descended the carpet-covered steps to walk besides her younger sister.

’‘What will happen if he decides to attack us as soon as we get there?’’ Luna asked, a hint of concern in her voice.

’‘Then we will have to return his ’greeting’ to the best of our abilities and retreat back to Canterlot.’’ Celestia nuzzled her sister, who returned the gesture almost immediatelty.

’’I hope he will forgive me. Because, even after all he’s done, I still miss him...’’ Luna sighed and leaned to her sister, closing her eyes.

’’We will have to hope for the best.’’ Celestia looked out the window, towards the horizon and wondering where in Equestria Discord could be.

Discord yawned and rolled onto his back; he had been napping again. He didn’t know why this form required so much rest but he didn’t complain. He stood up and stretched his back. A satisfactory ’pop’ echoed from it. He grunted and rolled his shoulders. Discord looked at his coat to see that he was in fact, filthy. He cursed the speed-hungry filly and looked around for a lake.

After a brief walk around the outskirts of town, he could see the shore of a big lake. He walked up to it and dipped a hoof in the water. It was cold, but not too cold. A relieved shudder rippled through his body. He cautiously stepped down in the water until he remembered that he still had the cloak on him. He looked around to make sure that nopony was around. When he was sure there wasn’t anypony in the immediate area, He magically removed the cloak and hid it in a bush. After he had removed the cloak, he took a quick breath and dipped his head beneath the surface of the water.

As his head breached the surface again, he gasped for air and flicked his head back to get his mane out of his eyes. This was pleasant. He used his wings to propel through the water in impressive speed. As he returned to where he had hidden his cloak, somepony was there. He panicked for a bit in fear that the pony had found it. He snuck towards the shore just below the surface, his wings tightly held to his side. He lifted his head from below the surface and made a quick gasp for breath. The pony on the shore was a white unicorn with a luxurious purple mane. It was nopony else than Rarity, the Element of Generosity. She was setting up a blanket and laid down on it slowly and sighed. Discord cleared his throat. Her eyes snapped open and stared right at him. Fear struck her features.

’‘What are you doing?’’ Discord asked slowly while raising the tone slightly with every word, accusing her as she had done something wrong.

He didn’t get an answer, if a few hyperventilating gasps and a very annoying scream didn’t count as an answer. Rarity fell onto her back and kicked her hooves into the air, still screaming. Discord levitated the cloak to him and put it on. As he emerged from the water and shook himself dry, the screaming increased in volume. He frowned and rubbed his temple with his left hoof.
