//------------------------------// // Chapter 10(New Job, New Life) // Story: The Chaos Conundrum // by Chaos_Azeroth //------------------------------// 'Did you have fun?' Chaos asked, slowly. Discord flattened his ears. 'Yes. Is that all?' 'Well...Would you want to do it again sometime?' Discord's eyes lit up. 'I thought you'd never ask.' Chaos rolled her eyes. 'Melodramatic much?' Discord looked innocently. 'I have no idea what you're talking about.' They both laughed. 'Well, I'd like to try to get a job though,' Chaos said, boredly. 'A job? How boring,' Discord proclaimed. 'Yeah but it'll pay for stuff. Maybe I can even get my own place.' 'Can I stay with you then? I get the feeling I'm not quite welcome here.' 'Ah, they don't hate you,' Chaos replied. Discord gave Chaos a flat look. 'Well they may dislike you a little. But I'm sure we can change their minds!' 'Why bother?' Discord flicked his tail lazily. 'I don't know. Why not?' 'You got me there.' Discord shrugged. 'Don't you two ever sleep?' Rarity asked as she walked into the kitchen, yawning. 'It's morning.' 'No,' Discord replied. 'Don't need to,' came Chaos' reply. 'Hey Rarity, where can I get a job?' 'After coffee, darling....' A yawn. 'We'll try something, if you like.' __________________________________________________________ In Rarity's 'inspiration room', Chaos was told what to do. Make a dress appear on one of the manaquins Rarity had in the room. Chaos visualized a super frilly purple dress on the manaquin, then concentrated as hard as she could at it. Minuntes passed. It seemed hopeless. Then suddenly, the dress appeared. 'Not bad, darling,' Rarity said as she looked it over. 'Make as many as you like, and I'll give you fifty percent of what they sell for. If that's alright, that is.' 'Sure,' Chaos said with a shrug. 'It's more than I'd make otherwise. Not sure if I can make enough to make it, though.' 'We have returned,' Princess Luna said. 'And with glad news! Since you're trying to be self-sufficient, our sister and us made you a home. It's where we were playing that strange game. Would thou like to see it?' 'After I make a few more dresses,' Chaos replied. 'Four more should do it,' she thought. 'Time to get to work. _________________________________________________________________________________ Five dresses, and Rarity assuring Chaos they'd sell in no time, later Chaos and Discord went to see their new home. It was sparsely furnished and decorated, but it had what they needed. It even came with a fireplace, Chaos noted. And two beds, as if they had decided Discord was going to live with Chaos. Where else would he live, anyway? 'I call couch,' Discord said as he plopped down and stretched out on the couch. 'No fair,' declared Chaos, laughing. 'I'm longer,' Discord replied. 'It's entirely fair.' 'I guess,' Chaos replied. 'I'm laying on my bed, making those dresses actually wiped me out.' She laid down. 'If you sleep, I'll watch you,' Discord said as he went and settled down on the other bed. 'Nice,' Chaos replied, laughing a bit. 'Creepy.' 'I'm hurt,' Discord replied. 'We'll leave then,' Princess Luna said. 'Bye Luna,' Chaos said sleepily. Before she knew it, she was out. ____________________________________________________________________________ Chaos awoke to see Discord's face only an inch from hers. She started up, and she fell out of bed. 'You're cute when you sleep,' Discord said, whistfully. 'You look innocent.' He laughed. 'Ouch my flank,' Chaos grumbled. 'Hey the elements are gone and there's something else there!' 'What is it?' Discord asked, peering. He gasped. On her flank was a winged heart with a broken halo over it and a devil tail. One wing was a bat's wing, the other feathered. It was on both sides of her flank. 'Chaos cutie mark!' Chaos squeeled. 'I really like it,' cooed Discord. 'It suits you. Guess I'm the only one of us cutie markless.' 'You aren't supposed to have one,' Chaos said as she laughed. 'You like the animals, right?' Discord asked. 'You remembered,' Chaos squeeled. 'Why?' 'We should go visit them then,' Discord suggested. 'Sure,' Chaos said slowly. She was sure there was a trick here. But what? ________________________________________________________________________________ 'Oh hello Chaos,' Fluttershy said. She suddenly looked nervous. 'Discord.' 'Hey Fluttershy,' Chaos greeted back. 'How are you? How are the animals?' 'Fine,' Fluttershy replied. 'All fine. Come out you guys, we have a guest that wants to see you.' The animals came to them, and the cat jumped up and laid down on Chaos' flank. 'He really likes you,' Fluttershy said. 'Which is great,' Discord said. 'Since I was hoping to get the cat for Chaos.' 'Really?' Chaos squeeled. 'That's great!' 'I don't know...' Fluttershy said. 'Still, he does seem to like her. And she seems so happy...I'm just not sure why you want to gift him to her.' 'Simple,' Discord said. He whispered something in Fluttershy's ear, and she smiled. 'Yes, of course, I understand. Best of luck.' Discord picked up the cat, and whispered something in his ear. 'What's going on?' Chaos asked. 'Oh, you'll see,' came Fluttershy's reply. As they left, after Chaos played with the animals, Fluttershy found herself hoping Discord's plan worked. 'Maybe it will even help him be better,' she thought. 'He sure seems happy, and hasn't been that bad. _________________________________________ At some point on the way home, Discord had put a note in the cat's collar. At home, when Discord gave Chaos the cat, she noticed it. Using magic to get, open, and hold it she read it. Dear Chaos, Won't you be mine? You're the insanity In my life, The chaos. You belong with me, Me with you. There is nothing We can't do Together. Love and chocolate rain, Discord Discord had been watching intensely the entire time Chaos read. By the end, she had gotten a very puzzled look, and Discord's heart sank. 'This is what you get for not trying to take over Ponyville,' he thought. 'This is what you get for falling in love, and holding your heart out in your paw to somepony. You've gotten soft in your old age, Discord my boy.' 'Are you okay?' Discord heard Chaos ask. 'Why wouldn't I be?' He responded quickly. 'I kept trying to ask what you meant,' Chaos said. 'I mean, aren't I already 'your Chaos'?' 'Marry me,' Discord said. 'What?' Chaos asked, clearly surpried. 'See, I knew you...' Discord began, but Chaos cut him off. 'I thought you'd never ask.' She smiled, and Discord froze. Litterally. 'Oh haha,' Chaos said and Discord un-froze. 'I better go tell the girls.' 'Tell the girls what?' It was Princess Luna. 'I think you better sit,' Discord said, gesturing to the chair. 'This is going to be the strangest thing you've ever heard. Princess Luna sat in the chair. She quickly found out Discord was right.
