Something New

Chapter 3

Shayden looked up at the three-floored music store. "Why are we here again?" Soren opened his mouth to answer, but Rainbow blurted out something first.

"You're too boring!" Shayden raised an eyebrow at her and Winter scowled at the rude mare.

"At least you're blunt about it." Shayden replied. Soren intervened.

"Not the wording I would have used but yes...you need to have fun. Different kinds of fun that you're not used to. And he's not boring, Rainbow. Maybe to you, but you don't have to be rude about it." Rainbow apologized to Shayden half-heartedly. He accepted nonetheless.

"Anyway..." Winter started slowly then normally. "This is the only music store in town. You're bound to find whatever instrument you need inside. Drums and percussion are on the top floor, stringed instruments on the floor below, and equipment and various smaller instruments are on the ground floor."

"Sounds like paradise," Soren and Rainbow said simultaneously as they ogled the store. Winter Solstice chuckled at the two. They looked like they were about to open presents on Hearths Warming Day.

The group entered the store and were surprised to see how many ponies were inside. Even though it was the only music store in Fillydelphia, it was still unexpectedly popular. There was chatter and music in the air, vibrations thumped softly from above, and singing could be heard from the first and second floor. Soren and Rainbow almost squeed in delight.

"To the second floor!" Soren shouted as he and Rainbow ran away, both disappearing with a poof of smoke. Shayden tilted his head.

"What? How is that even possible?"

"You're questioning why they can run unnaturally fast while I'm wondering how Soren can be serious yet extremely playful at the same time."

"It's not that difficult."

"Then you should try being as playful as them," she smiled while trotting to the staircase. Shayden rolled his eyes and followed her.

On the second floor, Soren and Rainbow awed over the many guitars, cellos, violins, and harps. The floor was separated into different rooms with a sign above each doorway showing what was in it. There was one for guitars specifically, one for classical instruments, one for recording, and the last (the one they stood in now) was for purchasing instruments and needed equipment like picks and bows. Soren and Rainbow trotted through the cashier room and into the guitar room. Shayden and Winter entered behind them within the minute.

Soren grabbed the first guitar that looked appealing. It was a Fender Magiccaster with a basic black and white finish. After plugging it into a nearby amp, Soren faced all three of his friends.

"Any suggestions? Genre? Specific song?" Rainbow raised her hoof with a smirk. He nodded to her.

"You're a showoff, so make them feel." Soren smiled. Winter was puzzled by the derogatory term Rainbow used to describe Soren, but she thought nothing of it due to his lack of reaction.

"I made this song for a specific pony." Soren began with a few light notes, which resonating within the decent sized room. A few ponies watched him play. They were surprised when he began singing as well.

Oh life, it's bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I've said too much
I've said enough

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour
I'm choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no, I've said too much
I've said enough

Consider this
Consider this, the hint of the century
Consider this, the slip
That brought me to my knees, failed
What if all these fantasies come
Flailing around
Now I've said too much

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
Try, cry, why try
That was just a dream
Just a dream
Just a dream, dream

When Soren finished, he unplugged the guitar then propped it against the amp. The few ponies that were watching stomped the floor or clapped in applause.

Winter sniffed. "That was beautiful. Was that meant for somepony you know?"

"Thankfully, no. I've felt enough pain when my friends get injured. There was a situation in Canterlot that Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia had to deal with. An ex-guard named Royal Nexus was helping an earth pony mare named Obsidia. She had strange powers like mind reading, telekinesis, and seeing the past of anypony. He formed a bond with her, and I made that song when I learned that the two shared a intimate moment before completely disappearing. Star-crossed lovers."

"Do you make songs about your experiences quite often?" Soren nodded.

"I...I'd rather not talk about them. Maybe one day I'll tell you, but it could take all day. I met Shayden toward the end of my adventures." It was now Shayden's turn to nod. "Anyway, why don't I lighten the mood?" Soren randomly began singing another song. The unexpected is often the most entertaining after all.

I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad
Good girls go bad

I know your type
Yeah daddy's lil' girl
Just take a bite
Let me shake up your world
Cause just one night couldn't be so wrong
I'm gonna make you lose control

She was so shy
'Til I drove her wild

I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go bad
You were hanging in the corner
With your five best friends
You heard that I was trouble but you couldn't resist
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad
Good girls go bad
Good girls go

As Soren sang the first part of the song, Winter had a big smile on her face as if she was about to laugh. Soren motioned for her to join in, so she rolled her eyes and did so.

[Winter]:
I know your type
Boy you're dangerous
Yeah you're that guy
I'd be stupid to trust
But just one night couldn't be so wrong
You make me want to lose control

[Soren]:
She was so shy
'Til I drove her wild

I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go bad
[Winter]:
I was hanging in the corner
With my five best friends
I heard that you were trouble but I couldn't resist
[Soren]:
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad
Good girls go bad
Good girls go bad

"Don't encourage him, Winter," Shayden groaned. However, when he thought things couldn't get worse, the two colts and three mares in the room joined in as well.

[Boys]:
Oh she got a way with them boys in the place
Treat 'em like they don't stand a chance
[Girls]:
And he got a way with them girls in the back
Actin' like they too hot to dance

[Boys]:
Yeah she got a way with them boys in the place
Treat 'em like they don't stand a chance
[Girls]:
And he got a way with them girls in the back
Actin' like they too hot to dance

[Soren and Winter]:
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Them good girls go bad
Good girls go bad

[Winter]:
I was hanging in the corner
With my five best friends
I heard that you were trouble but I couldn't resist
[Soren]:
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad
Good girls go bad
Good girls go

Everypony began cheering and whooping. Shayden could only stare and think, 'Why does something always happen with you around, Soren?' When the laughing Soren and Winter rejoined Rainbow and Shayden, the dark unicorn glared at the white alicorn.

"If I didn't owe you my life, alicorn," he accentuated, "I would end yours." Shayden knew that calling Soren by his race bugged him.

"Oh you! You know just the right buttons to push," Soren teased.

"What do you mean you owe Soren your life?" Winter asked.

"I'll tell you in private. It's just that I owe him for giving me this new life." Soren wanted to change the subject.

"Also, Shayden, unfortunately for you, calling me 'alicorn' doesn't bother me that much anymore."

"Being called an alicorn used to bother you?" Winter inquired.

"I guess. I mostly hated how evildoers were SO high and mighty that they couldn't say my name. They always called me alicorn. But I figured out that that was their way to degrade me."

"I would really like to know about your adventures."

"In due time. How about we find a hotel, get something to eat, then look for more interesting spots to see?" No one complained, so the group left the music store, leaving the energy alive in there.
