//------------------------------// // Chapter 1 // Story: To be Adored // by jidbrony //------------------------------// Chapter 1 "I can't believe he's coming home with us." Aria groaned as she Sonata and Adagio entered their house feeling the nice cold air blowing on their face. "Oh come on Aria. We couldn't just have him freeze to death or get eaten by wolves or, or have the boogy man take him." "Sonata! Shh!" Adagio said looking at the basket. "He's asleep again." Aria and Sonata looked into the basket to see the tiny baby wrapped up in a blanket his eyes closes tight as he slept peacefully without a care in the world. "Aw!" Sonata exclaimed gushing over the cuteness. "Did you do this Dagi?" Adagio blinked as she seemed at a loss for words. "Well...um....I just uh, you know, sang him a tune on the way home." She finally said as she looked down at her pendant. "You...uh...you know." Sonata asked looking a bit worried. "What! No! Apparently he had no negative feelings. Sadly." "Well at least you got the twerp to shut up." Aria replied. Adagio put the basket down on the coffee table as she sat down on the couch Aria and Sonata sitting right next to her. Adagio took a deep breath before she spoke. "Ok, what are we going to do about our...problem." "Don't you mean our little..." Adagio glared at Sonata before she could finish her sentence, "....shutting up." Adagio took a deep breath again as looked at the basket. "Ok let's review. We found a basket, it has a baby, and Sonata insisted we take it home with us." "We're not keeping it our we." Aria asked. "Of course not!" Adagio blurted out. "Aw how come." Sonata groaned. Adagio rubbed her forehead at the stupidity of the question. "Sonata...this isn't a puppy, or a cat, or a stupid bunny. This is a child, a...human...it's way more complex than a animal." "But you said humans are animals." "Well...yes, compared to superior creatures like us." "Then if humans are animals then what does that make animals." "Stupid." Aria replied. "Hey!" Suddenly the sound of wailing cries was heard, coming out from the basket again, even louder than the last time. “Oh great, you woke the kid again!” Adagio yelled. “Did not!” Sonata insisted. “Did too.” Aria replied. “Did not.” “Too.” “Not.” “Too.” Adagio couldn’t take the bickering, she found a book that was sitting right next to the basket, it seemed heavy enough. She grabbed the book and in the blink of eye smacked it on both Sonata’s and Aria’s head, causing them intense pain. “Ouchie!” “What the heck Adagio.” Aria yelled rubbing her head. While Aria and Sonata were in pain the baby seemed to enjoy it his crying suddenly switched to cute giggling and laughing. A small smile appeared on Adagio’s face. “Well, it’s good to see someone else enjoys your pain.” Suddenly she snapped back to serious mood. “But we still have to think of what we do.” “Simple, we dump him off at an orphanage.” Aria stated blunted. “Done deal.” “We can’t!” Sonata argued. “He’s too cute to leave at a dump like that.” “Hey, orphanages aren’t that bad, you’ve been watching too much T.V” Aria argued. “I still say we keep him.” Sonata argued. “No way.” “Problem!” Adagio interrupted stopping another argument before it could take sew. “The only orphanage in outside of town and I don’t want to go all the way down there in the middle of night.” “Then will just go tomorrow then.” Aria. “The city is a ten hour drive.” Adagio proclaimed. “And we don’t have a car.” “I still don’t understand why, we can just sing and get our licenses that way.” Aria said. “I love driving!” Sonata said as she was now pretending to drive, making driving sounds and noises. “That’s why.” Adagio replied. “Well then we just get our licenses and leave dumb brain out of it.” “And constantly hear Sonata say...I want a license, I want a license...why didn’t I get a license, now way!” Adagio decreeded. Aria groaned. “Fine...Will take the bus.” “Fine! Tomorrow will drop him off at the local orphanage in the city.” “So, what, kid’s going to sleep with us tonight.” “Afraid so.” “Yay! Can he sleep in my room!” Sonata said jumping up and down and started hugging a imaginary babies in her hands really hard. “I’ll hug him and cuddle him and name him George!” Adagio and Aria just look at Sonata with concern. Adagio then eyed Aria. “Hey aint sleeping in my room.” Aria then yawned as she headed off to bed, Adagio just stood there watching Sonata cuddle the imaginary baby. Suddenly the baby began to make noises as it once again looked up at Adagio and tried to reach out to her. “Aw it still likes you.” Sonata said as she picked up the baby to hand it Adagio. “Here...you take him. He wants to be with you more I think.” Adagio take a few steps back. “What, no! You know I hate children.” “But he’s a baby.” “No difference.” “Yeah, big difference, babies don’t talk, they cry.” “Exactly.” “Come on!” “No!” “Come on!” “No!” “COME OOOOOOONNNNNN!” “Okay, okay!” Adagio yelled taking the baby. “I can only deal with one annoying whine at a time, and you are the worse...Although.” Adagio grabbed the book again and hit Sonata on the head with it causing the baby to laugh. “At least I can do that to you.” “Okay…” Sonata then collapsed on the ground, she was out cold.” “Night Sonata.” With that she took the baby inside to her room after putting him inside his basket. Adagio Dazzle’s room was looked like a place where royalty would live, but in a miniature form. The curtains were pink and silk. The rug was again pink with yellow diamonds embedded in it and finally the Master Queen sized bed with silk drapes covered on it and lush fluffy pillows. As they entered the room Adagio looked down at the basket not sure what expression to make, one of anger, sorry, she didn’t really care. “Well you should consider yourself lucky. Not even the most dashing of stallions have entered the room of the Empress of Song herself.” Adagio boasted as she put the basket on her bed and picked up the baby and just looked at him. His big beaming eyes staring back at his trying to reach out to her. “Look, you're staying just this one night and then were shipping you off!” Adagio stated trying to keep her best game face on. However the baby was able to reach Adagio’s nose and touch it. The soft hand caused Adagio to shiver a bit. “Oh no you don’t….You're not letting your cuteness get to me, do you know who I am.” Adagio said, arguing with a baby as she put the baby down on the bed and looked at it angrily. “I am Adagio Dazzle, Queen of the Siren’s I was once the most powerful being in a land called Equestria! My power was unmatched by anyone!” The baby didn’t seem to care as it just kept smiling and it suddenly crawled up to her and hugged her his little head rubbing against her chest. “Ugh...stop. I once seduced a thousand stallions to build a golden monument of me in my honor.” She said resisting the hugs. Adagio crawled back causing her to fall off the bed causing the baby to giggle. Adagio groaned. “Oh ha, ha….laugh at my suffering now.” The baby just kept giggling, it didn’t have a care in the world, how could it was it was only a baby, it didn’t know any better it would have laughed at anything. “You’d find Aria funny if you just stared at her long enough.” Adagio said getting up and heading back on the bed. The little baby crawled back to her. “No...Stay.” She commanded. The baby continued to look up at her. Adagio scoffed. “Yeah...like I need your praise. I am siren, I can get anyone to adore me the mere sound of my voice.” However the baby kept crawling again to cuddle himself with Adagio causing her to shudder again. It was strange, this mere human child kept wanting to cling itself to Adagio, and it wasn’t even under her spell. Adagio inside started to warm up, and her heart beat fast, she didn’t know what this emotion was. However it caused Adagio to lose her fierce expression and actually smile. “You...uh...you actually like me don’t yuh.” The baby responded just by cuddling up to Adagio even harder. “Wow...uh...thanks...i guess.” Adagio said slowly putting her hand on the baby’s bald yet soft head and began to pet it. “I guess...uh...I guess you can stay here for tonight. But then tomorrow off you go!” She insisted, however by that time the baby was asleep. Seeing him sleep started to make Adagio’s eyes heavy as slowly she drifted off to sleep as well feeling the softness of her baby companion on her lap. She didn’t know why, but it made her happy.
