//------------------------------// // A Day Before A Bird in the Hoof // Story: Luna's Blog/Diary Entries // by Brinde //------------------------------// A Day Before A Bird in the Hoof The Public never really saw this side of Princess Celestia, after all she had to remain proper when dealing with them. That however, wasn’t to say what she did on her alone time, besides reading Twilights letters, which for the most part arrived periodically, and almost always every day of the week, with some exceptions. No that wasn’t the reason she was currently acting like a giddy schoolgirl, despite the utter shame and or humiliation that would come upon her, if someone other than her sister had seen it. As you are probably wondering, the reason for her giddiness was because, she was going to have brunch in Ponyville. At Sugar Cube Corner to be more specific that is. Why one such as Princess Celestia, the controller of the very stars (what did you think she only controlled the Sun? You’re funny), would be interested in a brunch at a backwater town such as ponyville, would of course come to mind. Especially to most other royal Canterlot ponies, but the reason she was going to Ponyville for  such a brunch, wasn’t because it was Ponyville. After all it wasn’t some grand city, nor did it have some kind of grand landmark either, no it was because of Twilight Sparkle. Wait what? She was going there because of Twilight Sparkle?! Well… yes, yes she was, more specifically to hopefully get to know her friends better. So you can imagine my expression when I entered into my sisters room, to see her… oh how shall I put this… prancing around like a filly at a candy store. That… is the right expression… right? Regardless to say I was quite shocked would be an understatement, but then I became rather… amused shall we say? After all, this, this was a privilege that only a sister such as I could enjoy. For those of you who think my sister is poised, and that I am the prankster, boy, you have another thing coming if you think she’s always the calm and gentle one. Though we aren’t here to talk about her… and her personality, I’ll get on that perhaps in my next entry. Lets talk about my reaction upon entering my sisters room, as I said before I was quite amused, so needless to say I decided to inquire as to why. “Sister? Why for art thou so ecstatic?” I decided to finally ask as I watched her prance around getting ready in excitement. Celestia smiled at me brightly, bringing herself to a halt. “Oh Luna, my dearest Sister! The reason I am so happy is because I will be having brunch in Ponyville.” I blinked once, twice, and thrice. “A brunch… in Ponyville hast thou excited?” She chuckled lightly towards me, before getting her bird Philomena ready as well. “Well it’s not so much the fact that it’s in Ponyville, it’s more the fact that I’ll get to personally know Twilight Sparkles friends myself, instead of through her letters.” I tilted my head slightly to the side before letting out a small smile. “Ah yes, thou have often bragged about thine personal protege. Ever since she freed me from Nightmare Moons grasp, thou hast constantly told me how proud of her thou wert.” I nodded at this before continuing. “But then why bring Philomena? After all has she not just about reached her time of rebirth?” Another chuckle, before she gave me a slightly mischievous smile, one I knew well before our… misunderstanding shall we… put it? Her response came quickly enough. “Why of course, I’m bringing her dear sister, I wouldn’t dare not bring fair Philomena to the brunch.” I went through my mind as I thought of some of the letters the Princess had told me about. “But what of this so called Fluttershy? I hear thou hast told me that she carest for animals greatly… surely she’d misunderstand not knowing what type of bird it is upon thine cage.” “Oh that’s why I’m bringing her, I heard from Twilight that Fluttershy enjoys meeting all kinds of creatures. This would be perhaps the only time she’d get the chance to meet such a regal creature.” Celestia answered me right away, though she still had that mischievous smile. I furrowed my brow, seeing as how my sister was up to her usual… tricks as it were, so it wasn’t wise to continue questioning her on the same subject. “I see…” I said finally, before I continued, “and what of the other citizens of Ponyville? Will not they be fretting over properly pleasing you?” My sister, simply raised an eyebrow and smirked, at me… before she countered it. “And this would be different from any other gathering I went to, exactly how dear sister mine?” “Touche.” Was all I could say to that comment of hers, after all it would be true, no matter where she went, most ponies would grovel and do their utmost to please her. That is when a thought hit my head, a perfect thought to ask my sister. “But what of the rest of Twilight Sparkle’s friends? Will they not be trying their best to act proper in thine presence?” Another chuckle escaped from my sister Celestia’s lips, followed by a slightly amused expression. “Yes I do suspect they might, though I can always count on one of them to act normal during the brunch… if Twilights letters have told me anything that is. Regardless, I’d like to see how they would act in my presence, it would certainly be… entertaining to say the least.” “Thou meanest that there is another, other than thine pupil Twilight Sparkle? Is it the one who laughs…” Before I could continue my sister cut me off. “Pinkie Pie yes.” My sister Celestia nodded before continuing on, “as for Twilight Sparkle my most faithful student, I suspect she will be cautious and worry out of fear that I won’t approve of her friends.” This is when she smiled genuinely and leaned closer to me. “Between you and me though, I already do. There are just some things she needs to learn on her own, also… it’s sometimes fun watching her fret so cutely.”  I couldn’t help but shake my head slightly at her last comment, before I too began to smile. “It sounds as if thou hast everything planned out.” There was my sisters… smirk again. “While I can’t predict everything that will happen, I can certainly calculate them well enough to predict at least some of it. The rest I’m sure will be a… wonderful surprise, of course Philomena will likely end up having some fun herself too.” I sighed at this, before my own lips twitched and deceived me by going into a smirk themselves, I swear sometimes I feel as though I have a treaturous body. “I still stick by the fact that thou hast raised thine pet, to be as bad as thou art when it comes to pranks.” My sister giggled, before winking at me. “You know what they say Luna, that pets take after their owner, and Philomena has been around me since we were young, so it’s only natural she’d pick up on some of my traits.” “Like thine undying love cakes?” I asked mischievously. “Yes!” She exclaimed proudly without any shame. “Like my undying love of cakes, for I’ll have you know sister mine, that cakes are truly a nutritious part of a balanced meal.” “Oh? Is that why thou art so tall, and thine plot so shapely?” I countered with a smirk, it has been a while since me and my sister could tease each other such… I had… missed these moments truly. “Well, perhaps if you ate as much cake as I did, you’d look this good too Luna sister dear.” She grinned teasing me back. I laughed. “Oh how I’ve missed this, in either case I just came to talk to thee, just to take a break from my history studies, I have missed so much after all.” I replied after I had finished laughing. “I hope thou hast a good day tomorrow.” I continued as I began to leave. “Oh and one more thing sister… I’ve, I’ve missed this.” Celestia smiled at me gently. “I have too Luna, take care with your studies, and I’m sure I will have a wonderful day tomorrow.” I smiled before I left, it had been nice talking to my sister, and it had also been nice to see her in such a state that I have not seen in a millennia. If you’re wondering why I have not recounted anything else prior to this day, there is not much else to say, unless you’d like me to tell you how I’ve been spending many days and hours catching up on everything I’ve missed. Perhaps Twilight or a scholar may be interested in such things, but they are not things I would personally write about, for I find them dreadfully boring. Though, I can promise this… next time I write, it will be about my Sister, and all the dirty little secrets she may be hiding! Well… maybe not all the dirty little secrets, but I hope it will open your eyes to her true character, and not the one she puts on. After all, no one ever gets to see how she acts in private after all, and I think, as her one and only sister, that it only be fair that I do so. So until next time, whenever I have time to write again, perhaps sooner, perhaps later, I will regale you with tales of my sister Celestia.
