//------------------------------// // Welcome to BronyVille // Story: Once Upon a Pony #1 The Curse Begins // by candlefire //------------------------------// All the people in the Starbucks sat quiet listening to one young woman's spat with her boyfriend. The gossip spread around the cafe highlighting the break up. It was too good to be true. This woman had long blond hair with purple and pink streaks, and a black coat. She had a temper like nobody's business. No one needed to get on her bad side. "I know you've been seeing someone..." The woman muttered. She strummed her fingers on the table. "I'm the one with the problem? Come on, get real!" She started to tap her foot. "That is it! Don't think about calling, we are through!" She finally barked. After she slammed her phone down, all the people in the cafe returned to talking and eating breakfast. She took a deep breath. "You okay Starla?" Asked the cashier. "Yeah, I'm fine Nancy." Starla replied. Starla was an undercover detective in New York City, living a normal life. She solved important crimes, her own problems, it was just so simple. How could life turn around now when everything was absolutely ordinary? A few minutes later, Starla's phone rung again. "Hello?" Starla spoke. "Hi, how are you?" Starla asked. People listened closely to this call. "I do? Who?" Starla went blank. "My son?" She was surprised. Her son in New York. She gave birth five years ago and the kid found her? Starla grabbed her drink and headed out of the cafe. She drove her Smart car over to the police station. Why has he come now? How could he remember me? She got out of her car and went inside the building. Her employees showed her to her son. He sat on the lounging couch reading a book. The boy had brown hair, slicked back a bit. He wore a blue scarf around his neck. His age probably ranged to nine or ten. Starla walked up to him and waved. "Hey, I'm Starla." She managed to say. "I guess I'm your mom." The boy smiled right back at her. "Hi, I'm Blue!" the kid said. "And the doctors at the station analyzed our blood, it's compatible, I am your son!" "Where do you live?" "In Vermont." "How did you get here?" Starla asked. "I took my mom's credit cards, gathered some food from our pantry, and got your address here!" Blue replied. Starla just stared at him. "I didn't use that much, is $215.00 that serious?" Starla continued staring, she woke up in seconds. "Well, " Starla declared, "I have to get you home." "Cool! I can show you my town!" This boy clearly had his heart set on finding her, so she wasn't going to let him down. He had gone through so much after all. "Let's take my car." Starla said. So the two were off two Vermont. It seemed along way for Starla, but she had to get Blue home to his mom. During part of the ride, Starla was silent, she didn't know what to say to Blue! "Hello, I'm your mom and didn't want you?" It wasn't a pretty plan. Blue didn't mind the silence, he just read some more of his book. Starla caught a glimpse of the book, it was a storybook about ponies. She just did not get it. Finally, after two hours, she broke the ice. "So...why did you run away?" Starla asked. "My mom is evil." Blue replied. Starla was a bit confused by this. "Your mom can't be evil!" "Oh she is." Blue answered. Then she tried a different approach. "Is there another reason you ran away?" "Yeah, I needed to find you." "Why?" "Your going to save the ponies." Starla thought she heard that wrong... "I'm going to save ponies?" "Yep." "What happened to these "ponies?" "They got sent here in the dark curse." "Dark curse." "Okay..." 'This kid must be out of his mind!' Starla thought. 'Why is a young boy his age talking about ponies? What are they teaching him in his town? Is there something she didn't know about?' Thirty minutes later, they exited into Blue's town: Bronyville. "Bronyville?"Starla stated. "That's a weird name. "I know, I know, but it's home." Blue replied. Blue guided Starla through the town until reaching his house. The town seemed like a pretty quaint place, a good spot for a growing kid. When they reached his house, Starla had wide eyes. The place was huge, fancy, and looked expensive. "What's with all the class?" Starla asked. "She is the mayor of the town." Blue replied, less than proud. "Got it...the mayor." Blue walked up and rung the doorbell. The door opened, and a sophisticated women came out. Her hair was blond and brown together, her face had make up all over(not that she really needed it,) and her body was covered in the classiest crimson dress. Her face had the look of worry for her son. "Blue! Your back!" She exclaimed. "We have been looking all over for you! Where did you go?" Blue rolled his eyes. "Mom, I just went to find my real mom." The mayor eyed Starla with attitude. "Blue, get inside." She finally said. Blue walked in the lavish building, and the mayor walked toward Starla. "Hello..." "Hi, I'm Blue's birth mom, Starla," Starla spoke. "It's nice to meet you. "I'm Summer." "Hi Summ-" "But you can call me Madam Mayor." Starla disliked the vibe she was getting from "madam mayor." The true colors of this women were finally revealed. " Look, let me get straight to the point." Summer muttered. "He is my son, you were the one who chose to give him up. If you are feeling regret, it is too late. You can go now, you've done what you needed to do here." "Okay, okay!" Starla said. Starla started walking away when she thought about Blue and his pony book. "Oh, Blue was talking to me about ponies, me breaking a spell, I hope you know what that means." Summer looked at Starla. "Um, okay." Summer answered. With that she went into her house. Starla walked to her car gloomily. She did like the kid and all. Before she could get in the car, a voice cried out. "Wait!" She turned around to see a lady walking up to her. She had on a green turtleneck shirt on, and had finely brushed ebony hair. "Don't mind me for eavesdropping, but I heard you were Blue's real mom." The lady said. "Yeah, " Starla replied, "I'm only dropping him off. I'll be leaving." "If I were you, I think you should stay and get to know Blue. I think he really looks up to you." Starla felt something about what the woman said. "I think about it..." In an old motel called the Equestrian Inn, things were quiet. The innkeeper and her employee sat at the front desk. The innkeeper was in her mid 40's and her employee was a young teen. The teen didn't have any positive attitude about anything, she didn't even smile. "This place is a dump..." Said the employee. "Please show some respect Diane." The innkeeper replied firmly. "Whatever..." The door opened and Starla came in. "Oh look, a traveler." "Hi, I need a room here." Starla stated. "Ah, but of course!" The innkeeper replied graciously. "How long will you be staying?" "I don't know yet..." The Diane spoke: "Get out while you still can!" "Enough Diane!" Barked the innkeeper. "I'll get your key..." Starla walked to her room a few minutes later. She opened it and entered a nice little room. With that, she set her belongings down and jumped onto her bed. She thought about Blue. "I think I may like it here..."
