Once Upon a Pony #1 The Curse Begins

by candlefire

An Unexpected Appearance...

Twilight was nervous of everything about the wedding. Marrying Flash was what she dreamed of, but she just felt something wasn't right. She stood with her friends as Rarity sewed the last touches to her dress. Her friends stood by her as she worried about it.

"What if Flash has second thoughts, what if I say the wrong things," Twilight huffed, "what if-"

"Twilight," Applejack exclaimed, "I just don't get why you are fretting about your perfect day!"

"You are going to be great, we all believe in you." Fluttershy added.

"And Flash just loves you to pieces!" Rarity put.

Twilight felt a little more reassured with her friends words. They were the best things of her life, meeting them was purely magic. There was no doubt that they would be together til the end.

"Ruffles, check. Sequins, check. Glitter, check. Perfect!" Rarity squealed. "Twilight, you are just divine, Flash will say "I do" before you could say gorgeous!"

The girls all cheered.

"Now, now, ladies, touch up!" The white unicorn exclaimed. "We are the best mares of a princess now, aren't we?"

The best friends finished with their dresses, and rushed to the palace doors. They all watched as Twilight followed in her magnificent bridal dress. Twilight blushed nervously.

"Twilight, you can do this." Applejack said confidently to her friend.

"We face big scary meanie monsters of all shapes and sizes together, this marriage thing should be a total breeze!" Pinkie exclaimed.

"You think?" Rainbow asked Pinkie sarcastically.

"I'm absolutely, positively sure with sprinkles on top!"

Rainbow rolled her eyes before laughing with all her friends.

"Twilight, are you crying?" Fluttershy asked.

"It's just, I love you guys so much." Twilight replied.

"We are sticking together til' the end!" Applejack declared.

The ponies gave each other a big gigantic hug.

"Now Twilight, try not to ruin your mascara..." Complained Rarity, paranoid the makeup.

At the great doors of the castle the last wedding guests walked inside. No pony noticed the hooded unicorn walk in the crowd to the palace. She had no wish to be seen, she couldn't risk ruining her plan. When the coast was clear, the unicorn telaported to the castle library and rushed in to find a book. The unicorn's magic aura glowed a bright green as she searched the books on the shelves. She had no luck to finding the right one.

"Where is it, where is it?" Huffed the unicorn impatiently.

A few moments later, she spotted the restricted section, which had a lock. The unicorn rushed over and broke the lock with her magic. Guards probably heard the ruckus, so she had to find the book fast. Upon entering a dark room, she spotted the book open upon a table. She eagerly walked toward it, it was the book she needed.

"Ah Celestia, Celestia, isn't pretty stupid of oneself to leave a rare dangerous book lying around?" The unicorn asked. She laughed at the foolishness of the princess.

"You shouldn't have underestimated my power."

She grabbed the book and transported it to her saddle. At that moment, a guard walked into the library. He looked around and spotted the restricted section of the library had been trespassed.

"Thief! Thief! You put that book back right now, you're coming with me!" The stallion barked.

The guard shot a blast from his horn, but the unicorn was too quick. She blocked it with her magic and immediately spiraled it back to the guard. It hit him in the face and sent him to the floor weak. She walked pass the guard as he watched her.

"There's a wedding going on today..." The guard sputtered.

"Who doesn't know that?" The unicorn replied.

"You're not planning to hurt the bride and groom...are you?" The guard asked willingly.

"Don't worry, I won't touch a hair on their manes!" The unicorn said before the guard passed out.

She silently slipped out of the library and through the corridors of the castle. It was only a matter of time before she made a startling appearance...

Back in the ceremonial hall, ponies stood waiting for the bride. Finally, Fluttershy's birds started to sing, and the tall doors opened. The five bridesmaids walked in, with Twilight following behind. She remembered walking in this hall before, as a hero, a best mare, and a princess. This day, she was walking in as a bride.

Flash was stoked to marrying such a beautiful mare. It was everything Flash ever dreamed of in his life. As Twilight walked up the steps, Flash smiled. Both had hearts pumping with adrenaline. The five ponies stood by Twilight as she faced Flash.

"Welcome, mares, stallions, fillies, and colts." Celestia declared. "We are gathered here today to witness the holy matrimony between Princess Twilight Sparkle, and Flash Sentry. May the ring bearers come forth?"

The Cutie Mark Crusaders (very much older and had their cutie marks) hustled up the steps to Twilight and Flash. They took the rings off the velvet pillow and gave them to the couple.

"Twilight, Flash, it is time to make your vows." Celestia said.

"Right," Twilight said. "Flash, the first time I met you, I bumped into you."

All the ponies humored at this statement.

"For the first time in my life, I saw something, it was a little different kind of friendship. I realized sooner or later that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you."

"Aww..." Whispered Pinkie Pie.

Then Flash spoke: "Twilight, you are something special. I think that I am the luckiest stallion today to be with you right now. On this special day, I would not change a thing."

The couple exchanged gold and silver rings, each had a romantic inscription on them.

" With the vows spoken, rings exchanged, I pronounce you husband and wife! You may now kiss the bride!" Celestia declared!

As Flash and Twilight kissed, the ponies cheered. But before Rainbow Dash could make her Sonic Rainboom, the doors flung open.

"Hello?" Luna asked suspiciously.

The hooded unicorn walked in slowly, Rainbow glared at the stranger.

"Oh no, did I interrupt Twilight's special day?" The unicorn purred. "It is a beautiful wedding."

It didn't take long for Twilight to recognize that voice.

"Sunset...Shimmer?" Twilight gasped.

"Oh no, my identity is revealed," Sunset taunted.

Sunset took off her hood. The five bridesmaids shielded Twilight from Sunset's reach.

"Not this time ladies, you can't save Twilight from this one."

"Try us..." Rainbow hissed.

Luna and Celestia got in front of the amber unicorn.

"Leave Twilight alone." Celestia barked.

"Not until I state the reason of returning to Equestria!" Sunset replied, even more serious.

"Very well then," Luna demanded, "speak up!"

Sunset looked at Twilight spitefully.

"One way, Twilight Sparkle, everything you ever loved, all your happiness, will be taken away from you!" Sunset hissed.

Everypony gasped, Twilight only growled.

"Alright, that's enough! Guards, seize her!" Twilight demanded.

Rainbow swiftly dashed to pounce the unicorn. But before she could catch Sunset, the unicorn teleported in a flash.

"Where'd she go?" Rainbow growled. "Let me at her!"

"Check everywhere in the castle, we cannot rest until we find her!" Celestia told the guards.

Twilight rushed to the the princess, Flash and her friends followed.

"Princess Celestia, what is going on?" Twilight asked.

"Sunset Shimmer's back?" Fluttershy asked. "That's something to worry about..."

"Sunset Shimmer has indeed returned, and she is planning a curse..." Celestia replied.

"Oh phooey, there's no curse that we can't handle!" Applejack exclaimed.

"No, this is a dark curse..." Celestia added.

"Say what now?" Twilight questioned.

" This dark curse will send us all to the land without magic..."
