The Circumstances are Unfortunate

But We Will Carry On

We just wanted to go home. Why would you do this? We were lost and alone... You took advantage of us!

It's okay. I forgive you. Just... Let us go soon, okay?

...Okay?

Hello? Is anyone there?

...Hello?

...I'm all alone now, aren't I?

Sonata... Aria...

We're still here, you know. Or... at least I am.

Aria? Sonata?

Where are you? I miss you...

Let us go! Please!

...Please...

Why do we have to hurt people? They didn't do anything to us! And feeding off of their pain... It's wrong.

You're monsters.

Let's just stop this! Let us go! Our bodies will give out soon... You'll have to find others.

Please let us go.

I'm so sorry. I know you're trapped here, just like we are. But isn't there a better way?

Do you have to feed off hate? Have you tried love? Maybe that could work?

I don't want to be here forever. Even if I'm immortal now, sitting here... Alone... In the dark...

This is no life. It's imprisonment.

And I will be free again.

Let us OUT! You can't keep us forever, I won't let you! I'll fight!

Let me and my sisters go! You have no right to keep us here.

Maybe--If I can get control for just a minute, and send a message to Aria and Sonata--

Aria! I heard her scream! What have you done?!

...

Sonata! No, no, please, let them go. I won't fight anymore, I promise, just... Just don't hurt them...

Please... Don't hurt them...

I saw Aria. She looks so angry all the time now. She's never been as happy as Sonata, but seeing her now...

She's changed. I guess I've changed, too. I used to be a peaceful leader. Keeping us out of trouble was enough for me.

Now... I couldn't care less about peace. One day my sisters and I will be free again.

Hurt me all you want. Your time is running out.

Once we overthrow this school, you'll have enough power to be independent from us, right? You'll let us go?

...

Yes, that's what I thought. Fine then. I'll help you, this one time... And then we're free. All of us.

...

Humanity?...That's a small price to pay.

Sunset Shimmer is in our way. We need to get to her first. If we separate her from the group, she'll give up, and their friendship will fall apart.

I told you to separate her, not break her!

You monsters.

I guess it doesn't really matter. Not when we're this close.

Th-the power... I can feel it... It feels...

Is this what you've been after this whole time? It's... amazing... And it's all ours...

The Rainbooms?! What are they doing?

They think they can beat us? Well they have another thing coming.

Let's show them what we can really do.

They're down and out.

Finally. Now, with this power, you'll leave, right?

...What do you mean? I can see you! You don't need us!

...Traitor. You meant this all along, didn't you? You used us!

You used me...

No. You're on your own. I believe Sunset Shimmer can beat you. It's taken us so long to get this far...

She can do it.

...Please...

It hurts. The full force of their magic hitting us... We're only human... But they don't know. I don't blame them.

I blame you. Now. Get. Out.

I suddenly became aware that I was... Aware. My body ached, my throat burned, my eyes watered...

I was back. The siren had released its hold on me. I was free.

"My head..." I heard Sonata moaned beside me.

Wait, Sonata?

"Stupid Rainbooms..." Aria's scratchy voice was the best sound I had heard in hundreds of years.

"Ahem." I looked up and saw Sunset Shimmer looking down at us. Not knowing what else to do, we cowered away from her as she took the gems that had sealed our fates all those years ago. The crowd behind us boo'ed and threw things at us, and we fled.

It was possibly the happiest moment of my life. The feel of the ground under my feet, Sonata's laugh, Aria's whoop of joy... We were back. True, things would never be the same, but that hardly seemed to matter at the time.

Aria tripped first, and I fell on top of her. Sonata jumped on me. I threw my head back and laughed, wrapping my arms around them.

"I missed you guys." I whispered, holding them close.

"I missed you, too." They said together. We sat like that for a long time. Just how long, I don't know, but the sun was coming up when I decided we should leave.

"What now, 'Dagi?" Sonata asked, more than a hint of fear in her voice.

"Yeah," Aria cut in, "Where do we go from here?"

"I don't know." I said, as calmly as I could, "But I think Twilight Sparkle could help us. She helped Sunset, remember?"

They nodded.

"But everyone's mad at us." Sonata whispered, looking sad again. I wrapped my arms around her and rested my cheek on the top of her head.

"We'll explain what happened. I'm sure we can work something out." I wasn't entirely sure, but I couldn't let my sisters suffer anymore than they already had. I'd give my life to help them; a few angry teenagers couldn't stand in my way.

"For now," I smiled at them and stood, pulling them along, "We just have to carry on. I don't know about you girls, but I still have some fight in me!"
