//------------------------------// // Day Zero of Adventure (part II) // Story: The Equestrian, Fairy Tactician // by proverbs //------------------------------// Equestria, Location: Castle of the Royal Sisters, throne room, Time: 8:34 a.m. Each party sized the other up. The ponies saw a strange bi-pedal creature, wearing clothing- that Rarity would define as cute- covering her entire body from head to… Whatever she called those hoove-things at the end of her-of what they assumed to be- legs. Likewise, the human sized up the ponies. She saw a lavender coated sapphire blue, violet and brilliant rose streaked manned unicorn and a chalk white, purple colored styled unicorn. Two pegasi; one blue with a polychromatic mane and a buttercream pegasus with a long bright pink cotton candy mane. Two regular ponies. Though one was a light raspberry coated, brilliant raspberry manned- whose mane was actually fluffy like cotton candy-, while the other was orange coated, who wore a Stetson on top of her blonde mane. But the biggest shocker was probably the two unicorn-pegasi that stood a little ways to the right. One alabaster white and had a flowing mane-that waved in a non-existent breese- of light cerulean, turquoise, cobalt blue and heliotrope. Stranger still, is that each of the horses/ponies had a strange tattoo on their flanks. But what was even weirder is that the two unicorn-pegasi wore tiara’s and golden and midnight blue adornments across their breasts. Out of all the eight beings the first pony to recover of the shock was the ever happy Pinkie Pie, who gained a smile three miles wide and dove straight at the blonde human, latching her fore hooves around the creatures right arm(?), and began to shake it vigorously. “Hi! I’m Pinkie Pie, what’s your name!” She said in a practised fashion, almost as if she’s done this a hundred times before. Mavis closed her eyes and raised her left hand to cover her mouth to let out a cute little giggle. Lowering her left arm, she then opened her eyes and had a nice smile on her face. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Pinkie Pie. My name is Mavis Vermillion.” If Pinkie’s smile could get any bigger, it would have, but instead her eyes widened as she realised a very important fact. Dropping Mavis hand(?) at this blatantly obvious epiphany, that the very essence of the revelation would be a crime against nature if she didn’t ask this one single, very important question. A question that could be tantamount to the world ending is one answered incorrectly. Every pony present leaned forward in anticipation, even the two royal sisters, stood on the tip of their hooves. “Do you like parties?” But the question was so unexpected, so left field that it took Mavis an extreme amount of will power to not face fall right there. Likewise, each pony released a breath that they didn’t know they were holding. But the First Master was quick to recover from her apparent shock and nodded her head, “Yes. I do like parties.” Pinkie Pie then turned to face everypony with a wild glint in her eye. “Oh, nelly.” Applejack lived in Ponyville long enough to know what glint meant. “Ah reckon that Pinkie Pie’s up to somethin’.” “It’s time for a party! But not just any type of party, a double super mega awesome celebration party!” “And why exactly would this be considered a ‘double super mega awesome celebration party’, darling?” “Because Rarity,” Pinkie pie then gestured toward Mavis. “Because here is somepony who was brought here from a different world, by a rainbow and was left with no friends in this dimension.” Then she pointed her left hoof at Princess Luna. “And on top of that, we have to celebrate the reunion of the ‘Two Royal Sister’s’…” Lowing her hoof, she then stared directly at Rarity, “If that’s not a reason to have a ‘Welcome to Equestria and Happy Sibling Reunion’ party, then I don’t know what is.” Mavis blinked owlishly at what the Pinkie Pie just said. How did she know that is exactly what happened to me? While Mavis was deep in thought, Twilight, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash, all looked at her like she grew a second head before bursting into a fit of laughter. “Hahahahahaha! Oh, he, hahahahahaha! That’s a good one Pinkie Pie!” Rainbow Dash spoke between fits of laughter. “Like that weird creature could be from a different dimension!” “Indeed,” Celestia’s voice seemed to break everypony out of their laughing fits. Gazing directly at Pinkie Pie, Celestia continued. “Tell me my little pony,” Celestia turned her gaze to Mavis. “What makes you think that this creature is from a different dimension?” “Because it’s the truth.” Mavis’ voice rang throughout the decaying throne room. “I am from a different dimension.” The silence that followed was astounding. One could hear a pin drop if they listened closely enough. Twilight was the first to find her voice. “So you mean you’re from a different dimension!?” Nodding her head, Mavis turned her attention to the lavender unicorn. “Yes, I am.” Twilight eye’s widened. Here was a being from a different dimension, and from a species never seen on Equestrian soil before. She was so excited that she could barely contain herself. Celestia the signs of Twilight’s incoming “inquiry” mode and so decided to step in right then and there. “I assure you, that we would love to hear all about your tale of how you came to our world, but first, I think Pinkie Pie is right… “It’s time for a celebration!” (end scene) Ponyville, Time: 10:07 a.m. On the way back to Ponyville, Twilight spent the entire time going over the different types of ponies. Each pony had a Magic Container equivalent inside their bodies. And that Pegasi use Magic both actively and passively. They use it actively to fly- and create a protective barrier around their bodies for extreme speeds- and passively in their hooves to manipulate/ stand on clouds. Earth ponies, use it passively. They help make plants grow and make soil fertile for growing plants. They are by far the strongest-at least physically. Unicorns are the only race that use it actively for various spells. And Alicorns are a combination of all three types of ponies. Unicorns and pegasi can develop their "magic containers" while earth ponies are born with a default size that can never grow in strength. Mavis assumed that when they use up all their magic, they suffer from "magic exhaustion", where they are unable to move until they've recovered enough. Apparently, they were so engrossed in their conversation that they didn't even notice that they arrived in Ponyville. And once they disembarked, the party went into full swing- despite the fact that it had a rocky start. The reason being, was that most ponies were wary of the strange creature that was accompanying the Princesses, but after Celestia calmed them down Mavis began to get into the swing of things. She and Princess Luna were introduced into every pony in Ponyville. Though Mavis knew that it would be a long time before she remembered each and every single one. But the ponies that she could definitely remember, were Applejacks family, Rarity’s sister Sweetiebelle, Scootallo, Derp-Ditzy Doo- Hooves, Miss Cherilee, Mr./Mrs. Cake and many others. After a few hours the party began to wind down as the party needed to be wrapped up, because Princess Celestia had to have a few questions answered by Ms. Vermillion. Once, the party was cleaned everybody went inside the Golden Oaks Library, where a purple scaled and green spiked, dragon greeted them. “Hey Twilight, wel-“ Spike’s train of thought came to an abrupt halt as he saw a strange creature with a blonde mane. “Uh, Twilight…” pointing his right index claw at the creature he continued. “Who or what is that?” Twilight looked where Spike was pointing. Raising her right fore hoof to cover her mouth, she laughed a little, “Oh, Spike this is Mavis Vermillion. Mavis this is Spike. He’s a-“ “A dragon!” Mavis eyes light up as soon as she saw spike and dove right for him, scooping him up in a bone crushing hug. “I’ve never seen a baby dragon before!” Putting finger to chin, Mavis began to think. “Well, technically I’ve never seen a living breathing dragon before…” “But how could you not-“ Celestia, held a hoof in front of Twilight before she could continue. “Don’t worry, Twilight. I’m sure Mavis will provide an explanation as to why she has not seen a dragon before… Am I right?” Nodding, her head, Mavis then made her way towards the couch, while Twilight, brought out extra cushions from the supply closet upstairs, and set them around the library floor. Once everpony and person took a seat, Mavis then began to swing her legs, wondering where to begin her explanation. (end scene) “How about we start with introductions first.” Came Twilight’s voice as she tucked her legs underneath her barrel. “I’m Twilight Sparkle, This is Rariry-“ “Hello Darling.” Rarity gave a smile and a nod. “Hello Rarity,” Mavis then got up and nodded her head in turn. “I hope we can get along.” “Applejack-“ “Howdy sugarcube.” Applejack brought her right hoof to the tip of her Stetson to give it a tilt in greeting. “You’ve already been introduced to Pinkie Pie-.” Giving a nod in Pinkie’s general direction she responded with a simple, “Yup.” “And this is Fluttershy-“ “H-he-hello,” Fluttershy then ducked behind Rainbow Dash with a cute little eep! Twilight gave a slight roll of her eyes, before gesturing towards Rainbow Dash. “And this is-“ “Rainbow Dash!” The polychromatic mare then flew right in front Mavis. “Fastest flyer in all of Equestria and soon to be Wonderbolt.” “Pleased to make your acquaintance Rainbow Dash.” Mavis then shook Ranbow’s right hoof. “And this is-“ “Princess Celestia. Goddess of the Sun.” Celestia then craned her neck to look at her Sister who was snuggled up into her side, trying to be as small as possible. “And this is Princess Luna, Goddess of the Moon.” “Hello, Miss, V-Vermillion.” Luna was acting much like Fluttershy, but Celestia knew it was because she thought that Mavis- and also all the little ponies- would probably dislike her because she was Nightmare Moon. Instead, Mavis gave a gentle smile and gave another curtsy to the Diarchs. “Hello, Princess Luna and Princess Celestia.” Ending her curtsy she then directed her attention to Luna. “I hope that we can be good friends.” “I… I would like that.” That seemed to put Luna a bit at ease. Mavis then sat back down on the couch, and began to recount her tale of how she came to be in Equestria, as well as give some general information about what type of species she is. All the while Twilight was taking studios notes. “So allow me to recap. You’re a human being, who are bipedal creatures that can come in a vast array of heights and weights, depending on the… ‘person’s’ genes.” Twilight then looked up from her notes to look right at Mavis. “And all humans have these appendages called ‘fingers’-index, middle, ring and pinkie- and ‘toes’-first, second, third, fourth and fifth-, two ovals on each side of their heads for ears. Mostly hairless, except for the head, underarms or ‘armpits’ and the groin.” Mavis nodded her head, prompting Twilight to continue. “And humans need to wear clothes and shoes to protect themselves from the elements.” Mavis then looked up towards the ceiling and then nodded in satisfaction. She did her very best to give everybody, an explanation of what humans are. “So, those there pegasus wings, ain’t an extra pair o’ ears?” Applejack questioned with a narrowed gaze. “Nope!” Mavis smiled, before raising her arms to remove the wing like adornments. “They’re just an accessory that a friend helped me make.” “I can see why darling, there just absolutely adorable on you!” Rarity couldn’t help but gush over her sense of fashion. “Much like your clothes. Where exactly did you get such an ensemble? “You mean this old thing?” Mavis grabbed the front of her robe, where the diamonds were for emphasize. “I made this myself a long time ago.” “Can we please get back on track here?!” Rainbow Dash’s voice cut through the conversation, Mavis and Rarity were currently having. “I want to know where Mavis comes from.” “As do I.” Princess Celestia’s voice rang through the library like a mother, when trying to give instructions to her children. “Very well,” Mavis then swung her legs for a bit before smiling. “I come from a world called Earthland. More specifically, the Kingdom of Fiore. A small peaceful nation of seventeen million, and a place full of Magic. “Found in every home, bought and sold in every marketplace. For most, Magic is a tool, a mundane part of everyday life. For some however, Magic is an art and they devote their lives to its practise. These people are known as Wizards. And they all band together in magical guilds, they apply their skills in search of fame and fortune.” “So these ‘guilds’ sort of act like the government where you come from?” Asked Twilight, who was taking notes as Mavis began to explain where she came from. “No that would be the magic council known as Era.” Mavis stopped kicking her legs. “Do you have a chalkboard around here?” “Oh, yes. Yes I do!” Twilight then got up and began to trot down to the basement. “Just a moment.” As Twilight, left to go get the chalkboard, Fluttershy finally gained the courage necessary to ask her own question. “Um, excuse me, um Miss Mavis?” Mavis then turned her attention to Fluttershy, who shrunk back from the attention. “Please just call me Mavis.” “Um, Mavis, do you have any animals, were you come from. If, that is, you don’t mind me asking.” Mavis’ eyes then lit up and gained a happy smile. “But of course we have animals!” Mavis then went into a somewhat detailed explanation of what types of animals that were in her dimension. Though most of them Fluttershy recognised because they already existed in Equestria, when it came to Wyverns though, she had no idea that they smaller versions of dragons otherwise known as “lesser dragons”. She also explained that nobody has seen a living breathing dragon in four hundred years because they had a civil war with each other that ended in a neutral agreement and each dragon went off into hiding. When Twilight re-entered the room she was levitating the chalkboard back into the main room she was happy that they were able to make a new friend so soon. Add to the fact that she was also completing her appointed task given by Princess Celestia to do an extensive study of “The Magic of Friendship”. Looking over to where Twilight re-entered, Mavis then thanked her. Taking the chalk in her left hand and standing at the right side of the board she began to write. “You see, Fiore does have a King and Queen who live in the capital city of Crocus, but the Magic Council is in Era. It’s widely regarded as the most powerful magical organization in the world of Earthland. It’s only one step below the government. “It has ten members and it’s their job to uphold all rules and regulations, and if someone breaks magical law, they then would be tried by the council.” Mavis drew a circle at the top, representing the government, then a line connecting to a box that had Era written in it. “I get it. It’s like the nobility. Even though Princess Celestia is the head of the government, she has the nobility to help take care internal affairs that she can’t solve herself.” Even though Twilight’s explanation was sound, it only caused Luna to flinch. “Yup, that’s more or less what they do.” Mavis then drew three lines, two going diagonal, and one going straight down. “Then the next level is the Guild leagues, where Guild Masters in a certain region group together every now and again to discuss the current affairs. Then the individual Guild Masters themselves, who are in charge of their respective guild, and pass on decrees from the Magic Council.” Mavis then stopped writing and turned to her audience. “I guess you can say that they’re the glue that holds us all together.” But then everybody saw something that they thought was impossible for a happy girl like Mavis. Her expression darkened and her tone took on more of an edge. “However, there are Dark Guilds who have disobeyed the Council’s will.” Drawing a circle that was not connected to the original drawing she continued. “The reason they broke off, is because the Council outlawed jobs that require killing, but they figured money was more important.” Everyone was silent at this. There were people who would kill for money. At this Celestia’s eyes narrowed. “Mavis…” Ever body watched in fascination as the single blonde lock at stood straight, twitched a few times. “Yes, Princess?” Celstia then stood up, locking her gaze with Mavis. “You said that you were the co-founder and First Guild Master of Fairy Tail correct?” “Yes…” Mavis answered with trepidation in her voice. “I just have to know one thing.” Celestia’s gaze hardened. “Is your guild a legal guild, or dark guild?” Celestia suitably casted a truth spell. If Mavis lied, a black mist would leak from her mouth that is only visible to the caster. What people couldn't fathom that the blonde locks that were pointed up at the top of forehead twitched. Mavis then bowed her head slightly. A shadow came over her eyes. She began to shake, and as she began to shake, a minor earthquake began to shake the very foundation on the library before- “Of course it’s a legal guild silly!” Mavis returned to her same cheery disposition. Everybody was dumbstruck and Celestia was silently grateful that no black mist came from Mavis. “I see,” Celestia allowed a smile to grace her lips. “And you are the owner of it?” Mavis shook her head. “You see Princess,” she then turned to face the window, gaining a distant look on her face. “Fairy Tail is a place, where friends can gather, Wizards can find work and children who have no kin to call their own can feel like they’re part of a family. So in a sense, it’s not some that can be owned. “Furthermore,” Mavis then turned her gaze from the window to Celestia. “It’s important, that each member not only be loyal but also trustworthy.” The petite human then scanned the room, locking eyes with the Mane Six in turn. “Otherwise, no bonds will form and the entire system will fall apart.” Mavis then hardened her eyes on the Sun Goddess. “On that note, while I do understand the need for trust, I don’t really appreciate it when someone casts a spell without me knowing what it is.” Celestia’s eyes widened for a brief second before she looked down. “It was a truth spell.” She then glanced up at Mavis. “It is only visible to the person who cast it. It would make your breath turn black if you told a lie.” Mavis nodded at this. “I’m not angry at you Princess.” The co-founder of Fairy Tail then got up and put her right hand on the side of Celetia’s muzzle. “I understand. A person who comes from a different dimension, who you know nothing about.” The pink clad girl lowered her arm. “You just want to make sure that I won’t hurt your subjects.” Celestia smiled at the girl. Even though she looks so young, she’s actually very wise for her age. The human began to walk back to the couch. And Celestia knew that she stayed in Ponyville long enough, but she wanted to know one last thing. “Mavis Vermillion, I have one more question for you.” Turning to face the alabaster Alicorn, Mavis tilted her head to the side in a cute fashion. “Yes… What is it?” “Why did you name your guild Fairy Tail?”
