Summer of Spike

by Wildcard25

Summer Ends

After Rainbow's declaration of love for Spike and kissing him in front of Rarity, the heartbroken fashion girl took off in tears, with Spike determined to catch her.

Spike was running after his girlfriend through the park, calling out to her, "Rarity, stop!"

"Please, just leave me alone, Spike!" Rarity answered, without looking back or stopping.

"You know I'm not gonna do that!" Spike called out, as he picked up the pace. With all his parkour exercise he managed to outrun Rarity and stopped in front of her, "Stop!" she slid to a halt, "Rarity you have to believe me what Rainbow Dash did back there to me it meant nothing."

"It didn't?" she asked flatly, while putting her hands on her hips.

"Ok, maybe a tad, but she took me by surprise," he pleaded, "Come on, Rarity, we've been together for a whole year. Rainbow's been my parkour instructor. I wouldn't cheat on you with her."

Rarity sighed, "I believe you, Spike, I truly do. But what Rainbow did, I just don't know what to do now."

"I don't either," Spike admitted, "But maybe we can work something out?"

"How?" she asked.

Spike tried to answer, but in reality he had nothing, "I don't really know how, but surely there's something we can do."

"I'm not sure there is, Spike." Rarity replied.

"So, what's going to happen to us?" Spike asked in worry.

"I don't know, Spike. But right now I think it's best for us if we have some time away from each other," she explained, while Spike looked heartbroken at her suggestion, "You understand, don't you?"

Spike swallowed his pride, and answered, "I do."

Rarity gave a small smile, "Thank you." she then walked along leaving Spike, who watched her leave, but could tell she was still suffering on the inside just like him. He dropped his head as he looked at the ground as a few tears fell from his eyes and hit the pavement.

Four days had passed since then, and nor Spike, Rarity, or Rainbow Dash spoke to each other. Twilight and the rest of the girls were getting worried about this, and knew something had to be done.

So Twilight, Pinkie, Fluttershy, and Applejack were meeting in Applejack's barn to discuss the situation, "Ok, you all know why we're here." Twilight began, until Pinkie spoke up.

"Actually, I forget why." she admitted, only for the others to roll their eyes, as Twilight spoke up.

"We're here to discuss the situation involving Spike, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash!"

"Oh, right," she giggled, "Sorry, sort of slipped my mind."

Twilight let out an exasperated sigh, before continuing, "They haven't spoken to each other in days. We can't have the new school year start off with our friends relationship strained."

"I know, but what can we do?" Fluttershy asked, feeling opened to suggestions.

"Normally I would say we should just let them work themselves out," Applejack began, "But given the situation, I don't think they'll be able to work it out on their own."

"Exactly," Twilight nodded, "Which is why we're gonna have to give them a little push in the right direction."

"Is that wise, Twilight?" Pinkie asked.

"What if it makes things worse?" Fluttershy asked in concern.

"Right now, we don't have much choice in the matter." she replied.

Applejack spoke, "She's got a point. We need to help our friends, even if they won't want it."

"We just need a plan to get them together." Twilight explained.

"How're we going to do that?" Fluttershy inquired.

They each started pondering on possibilities, and every time one of them thought they had an idea they dismiss it feeling it wasn't enough. Finally after much thinking, Pinkie spoke up, "I got it!"

"You do?" Fluttershy asked curiously.

"Tell us." Twilight said, as she and Applejack leaned in.

"Huddle." Pinkie huddled the others in and told them of her plan.

When their huddle broke, Twilight spoke in wonder, "Pinkie, that's genius!"

"I know." she smiled.

"It just might work." Fluttershy added.

"Well, then what say we put this plan into action, yall?" Applejack suggested.

"Yeah, operation mend Spike, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash's friendship is a go!" Pinkie cheered.

Sometime later, Twilight was dragging Spike along, "Come on, Spike. Applejack needs our help with chores today."

"This seems out of the blue, Twilight." he said suspiciously.

"Even if it is, it's better than seeing you mope around in your room," Twilight said, as she continued dragging Spike, "Now come on."

"Ok, don't pull so hard." he protested, as he tried walking along side her.

Meanwhile, Rainbow Dash was being led on by Pinkie Pie, "Come on, Dashie, pick up the pace."

"And why am I being asked to help out at Applejack's?" she asked.

"Because she needs an extra set of muscle besides Big Mac to help her. Unless you don't think you're up to the task." Pinkie smirked, knowing how to get Rainbow to follow along.

Rainbow falling for it, spoke, "Oh, I'll show them who's up to the task."

Pinkie thought, 'Gets her every time.'

Finally, Fluttershy was bringing Rarity along, as the fashionista spoke, "Explain to me again why I need to go to Sweet Apple Acres?"

"Well, Applejack tore a bit of her work clothes and needs them mended right away." the timid girl explained, hoping she'd buy it.

"Doesn't she have any other work clothes she can wear?" Rarity asked suspiciously.

Fluttershy got nervous, but quickly came up with something, "She said she works best in her favorite work clothes. You understand how someone can be if they can't wear their favorite outfit, right?" she asked with a grin hoping she'd believe her.

Rarity looked suspicious of Fluttershy's story, but sighed, "You're right. If I had to do something without my most comfortable outfit I too wouldn't feel at my best." Fluttershy sighed in relief, as they continued on.

At the barn at Sweet Apple Acres, Applejack was waiting outside it, until she saw Twilight bringing Spike over, 'Showtime.' she thought, and put on an act as they two arrived, "Twilight, Spike, so nice of you to make it."

"Our pleasure, Applejack." Twilight answered, as she herself was also acting.

"Yeah. So what do you need us to do?" Spike asked, in a bored tone.

"Well, first I should get some supplies from the house," Applejack began, "You two go in and I'll be with ya shortly." Twilight nodded, and brought Spike into the barn.

Applejack looked over and saw the next victim; Rainbow Dash approaching with Pinkie Pie. As they approached she spoke, "There yall are. I was waiting."

"We took the scenic route." Pinkie joked.

"So whatcha need, A.J?" Rainbow asked, feeling ready for anything.

"Everything's all set up in the barn. You and Pinkie go on in, and I'll be right behind ya."

"Come on, Dashie." Pinkie pulled Rainbow into the barn.

Applejack finally saw Fluttershy and Rarity approach, "Oh, good to see you made it." she told them.

"So where are your work clothes, Applejack?" Rarity inquired.

"They're inside the barn. Come on, I'll show ya." Applejack said, as she and Fluttershy brought Rarity inside.

All three groups were in the barn but in different areas of it in blind spots so they wouldn't be seen. Soon enough, Twilight, Pinkie, Applejack, and Fluttershy revealed the three friends to each other.

"Rarity? Rainbow Dash?" Spike gasped.

"What're you doing here?" Rainbow asked in confusion.

"That's my line." Rarity spoke up, and all three realized the set up.

"Twilight/Fluttershy/Pinkie Pie!" the three said in deadpan.

"RUN!" Pinkie cried, as the three and Applejack ran for the barn door, as the other three chase after them.

The four managed to exit the barn, before Applejack closed the doors and locked it. The three friends pounded the doors from the inside, as Rarity called, "Applejack, I demand you unlock this door now!"

"We ain't letting you three out until you settle your problems." Applejack answered from the other side.

"We're sorry about this." Fluttershy apologized.

"But it's for your own good." Pinkie added.

"You'll thank us someday." Twilight finished it.

Inside the barn, Rainbow was pounding on the doors, but realized they weren't going to open anytime soon. The rainbow haired girl looked behind her and saw Spike and Rarity, with both of them giving her scowls.

"Hey, guys. Long time no see." she said sheepishly.

"Just my luck to be locked in a barn with a backstabber." Rarity frowned.

"Rarity, I said I was sorry." Rainbow said, already feeling guilty again.

"You think sorry can change the fact you kissed my boyfriend right in front of me?" Rarity asked rhetorically.

"Ok, that part was my fault." Rainbow admitted.

"Your darn right it was." Spike agreed.

"Hey, you can't ignore the fact you enjoyed it!" Rainbow called him out.

"I have no comment." Spike answered, with a turn of his head.

Rainbow scowled, and jumped him before pulling him into a headlock, "Don't deny it, Spike. I know you enjoyed it!"

"Hey, let go of me!" Spike struggled, until Rarity tried prying her off him.

"Rainbow Dash, unhand Spike at once!" the three struggled, until they all fell to the floor on top of each other.

Rarity and Rainbow were lying on their backs while Spike was lying on top of them and across their bodies. Spike looked down at the two, as all three felt awkward. The boy finally spoke, "Truce?" he suggested.

The girls looked at each other and nodded before answering him, "Truce."

Soon the three were each sitting on top of a bale of hay in awkward silence. Spike knowing nothing was going to get done if no one said anything decided to break the silence, "I think we all know the reason why we're in here," the two looked at him, as he continued, "They want us to talk this out, and they're not going to let us out until we do so."

"I for one have nothing to say." Rarity said with a huff.

Rainbow spoke, "Rarity, you have every right to hate me for what I did, and I don't blame you. I just had to tell you my feelings for Spike."

"And you chose to tell it in front of our friends?" she asked turning towards her.

"That was stupid of me, and I could've chosen better timing." Rainbow admitted.

Spike spoke, "And could've held yourself back from kissing me." Rainbow once again bore a look of guilt.

Rarity spoke again, "Rainbow, just answer me this. If you really had those kind of feelings for Spike why didn't you come talk to me beforehand?" she asked in concern.

Rainbow was taken by surprise at her question, but answered truthfully, "I was scared. I wasn't quite sure if I could risk the reaction you'd give me if I did tell you. If I did I was worried you'd hate me even then and would think I was trying to steal Spike from you on purpose."

Spike and Rarity listened, as the girl continued, "I thought I could just put it off and ignore it thinking it would go away in time. But I was wrong. It just came out and I betrayed the both of you," she felt on the verge of crying, "I truly don't deserve your friendship, Rarity, or even your love, Spike. I don't deserve any of that for trying to come between you. I'm not so awesome after all."

Rarity stood up and approached the emotional jock and spoke, "Rainbow Dash?"

Rainbow looked up at Rarity, and suddenly received a clonk on her head, "Ow! That actually hurt!" she cried, and to hers and Spike's surprise was pulled into an embrace by the fashion girl, Rarity?"

"Honestly, Rainbow Dash," Rarity began, "You can be such an idiot at times, you know that?"

"I don't understand." Rainbow said, in confusion.

"Rainbow," Rarity looked her in the eyes, "You know you can always come to tell me anything no matter what. That's what being friends is all about, remember? That's why I was so upset when you confessed to Spike, you didn't come to me at first. I felt like you didn't trust me enough to hear out."

"Of course I trust you, Rare. I just couldn't bring myself to do it this time." she said, still crying.

Rarity pulled out her handkerchief and dried Rainbow's eyes, "Well, next time, but hopefully there won't be one you'll know to come to me, ok?"

"Yes, Rarity. And I'm sorry!" she hugged her and cried on her shoulder, as Rarity comforted her.

"It's ok, Rainbow Dash. It's ok."

Rainbow lifted her head up and looked over at Spike, "Spike, I'm sorry for what I did. If you don't want to do parkour with me or anything else with me I won't blame you."

Spike shook his head, "Rainbow Dash, I know you're sorry. But Rarity's right. You really should've come to one of us and told us before announcing it. I hope next time you learn to think before acting."

"I really will try." Rainbow promised.

Spike smiled as he went to embrace her too, "Besides, I love doing parkour with you."

"Thanks, Spike. Thank you, Rarity." Rainbow hugged them both.

They broke their hug, as Rarity spoke up, "Well, now that we've made up, there's still the big issue here."

"She's right. What do we do now?" Spike asked them.

"I don't know. I don't think I can just pretend it didn't happen. And I'm not sure if I will truly find anybody else." Rainbow admitted.

"There must be something we can do, anything?" Spike pleaded, not wanting one of his friends to be happy while the other gets so heartbroken they won't be the same.

"Maybe if we put our heads together, we can think of something." Rarity said.

"Can we really?" Rainbow asked curiously.

"We can try." Spike said, as the three started pondering on what to do.

Outside the barn, sat the girls who had been waiting around while checking the time. Twilight looked at her watch, "It's been two hours since we locked them in there."

Pinkie put her head to the barn door, and whispered, "I don't hear a peep."

"I hope they didn't kill each other in there." Applejack said in worry, and noticed Fluttershy was ready to panic at the thought of that, "Not that they did, Fluttershy." Fluttershy still didn't look too assured.

"Maybe we should check in on them?" Fluttershy suggested.

"You're probably right. Just to make sure they didn't escape or hurt each other." Twilight said, as Applejack carefully unlocked the barn door.

They peeked in and saw the three were sitting in a circle looking happy. They entered, and walked over, as Rainbow spoke, "Hey, guys. What took ya so long?"

"Are yall ok?" Applejack asked hopefully.

"We're doing fabulous, darling," Rarity answered, "Better than ever."

"So does that mean you've all made up?" Fluttershy asked.

"We sure did." Spike smiled, as he held the two girls close.

"That's good news." Twilight sighed in relief.

"So what's the standing point with you three now?" Pinkie Pie inquired, as did the other three girls.

Spike answered, "Rarity and I are still together."

"That's great!" Pinkie cheered, before looking at Rainbow Dash, "I mean, sorry Rainbow."

"You didn't let me finish." Spike interrupted her.

"There's more?" the four asked him.

"Me and Rarity are still together," he repeated himself, "But Rainbow has a new place in my life."

Rainbow latched onto Spike from behind and finished for him, "I'm officially his mistress."

"Mistress?!" the girls gasped.

"Rarity, are you sure, you're ok with this?" Twilight asked.

"Of course, Twilight. After much compromising we've decided this is the best choice for Rainbow Dash, me, and Spike."

"Rarity may have Spike as a boyfriend," Rainbow began, "But when she's not around and he needs some loving. That's where I come in."

"Are ya sure you can make it work?" Applejack asked.

"We're willing to try it, Applejack," Spike answered, "And if something does happen we'll find a way to work through it so that we'll still be friends no matter what."

The four looked at each other before smiling at the three, "Well, if that what you guys have decided. We shouldn't stop you." Twilight said.

"Thanks, Twilight." Spike said, as he looked at both Rarity and Rainbow on each side of him and gave them both a peck on the cheek. The two girls smirked and delivered a double cheek kiss to Spike making him smile brightly.

"This calls of a party in celebrating Spike and Rarity getting back together, and Rainbow becoming Spike's mistress!" Pinkie cheered, as he ran outside, and came back in with her party cannon. She fired confetti and streamers out making the barn look all decorated.

Everyone smiled, as Pinkie turned on some music and they began to dance. Spike looked to his girlfriend and mistress before asking, "Shall we?"

"After you." Rarity answered.

"Show us what you got." Rainbow added, as the three began to dance with their friends.

A few days later it was the day school started again. Spike and the girls were walking their way to Canterlot high, before spotting Dante walking by them. Spike smiled, as he passed his friend they did a high five.

'So Summer Vacation came and went,' Spike narrated, 'Dante decided to do some more job hunting to raise some money so he could travel abroad and spread his artistic creativity with the rest of the world.'

Spike and the girls saw Pipsqueak and Koda on their way to the other high school across town. The two waved at the group, as the two continued on, 'Pipsqueak and Koda were back in school as well. But this time different high schools weren't going to keep us apart.'

They finally reached Canterlot high, were Twistin', Vinyl, Puck, Featherweight, Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo were waiting by the schools' walked up and did a double high five to Twistin' and Vinyl, fist bumped with Puck and Featherweight, and hugged Applebloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle.

'And now I'm back in school with all my friends. This summer vacation turned out to be better than I ever imagined it could've been.' Spike finished his narration, as he walked hand in hand with both Rarity and Rainbow Dash.
