//------------------------------// // What? // Story: OctaScratch Prompt Collab: Bon Bon // by MathChomp //------------------------------// "Watcha’ doing Bonny?" Bon Bon jumped with a small squeak of surprise as the light lyrical voice of Lyra Heartstrings tickled her ear. She furiously turned around to glare at the turquoise unicorn that was looking at her with a curious expression. "Quiet!" Bon Bon hushed before turning around to her original position with rapt attention focused on the doors of a modest two floor home. Celestia's rays dyed the peaceful town landscape in a brilliant orange tinge as it sank calmly and steadily below the horizon. Ponies at the market square were packing up their wares, ready to go home for the day. A few ponies in the passing noticed the town's candy manufacturer looking awfully suspicious as she stood, half behind the corner of some pony's home, glaring at the home across the road as if her very gaze could light it on fire. Lyra followed Bon Bon's line of sight to the simple home and frowned, unable to see what the big deal about it was. As if to answer her question, the door opened and out stepped a snow white unicorn with bright purple shades and an easy grin. Lyra could recognize that bright carelessly tossed cyan toned mane from across town. It was Vinyl Scratch, otherwise known as the famous, or infamous depending on who you talked to, DJ PON3. Vinyl's gaze sweeped her surroundings and Bon Bon pulled Lyra behind the corner with such force and speed that Lyra thought her body was roped and dragged by a rampaging train. "Seriously Bon, what's going on? Why are you spying on Vinyl?" Lyra hissed as Bon Bon watched Vinyl close the door and stroll down the road towards Sugar Cube Corner. Bon Bon ignored Lyra's question and dashed across the street, effectively staying out of Vinyl's area of vision before hiding behind a simple bush. Lyra followed without even a fraction of the careful and concise movements of Bon Bon stalking her prey. "Bon Bon? Can you hear me?" Lyra tried again to reach her earth pony companion. Bon Bon finally let out an aggravated sigh and turned to Lyra. “Do you remember 209 days ago when we were on that date at Sugar Cube Corner?” Bon Bon asked in all seriousness. “Er…” Lyra hesitated, attempting to recall the particular day that Bon Bon was referencing but failing as they often frequented the pastry shop as a date hot spot. “Yes…” Lyra said through a forced smile, not wanting to anger the already incredibly tense mare. Bon Bon didn’t notice the obvious bluff, distracted by Vinyl walking into said bakery. She stared at the doors for a moment before continuing her story. “Do you remember Vinyl walking in with her new stereo on her back?” Lyra’s eyes widened as she suddenly now realized what day Bon Bon thinking of. “Yeah but I’m still not sure what that has anything to do with why you’re stalking her now.” It was a strange evening. Lyra and Bon Bon were still regular friends back then; both of them still too shy to admit their feelings for one another. Bon Bon had been a bit fidgety that night and Lyra suspected that her friend had caught a cold or something of the like as her cheeks were a touch rosier than usual. Right before Lyra was about to express her concerns however, Vinyl had kicked open the door and strode in with her new, expensive looking portable stereo. Electronic music was blaring out with incredible volume and the bass was turned up so loud, their plates quivered from the vibrations. Bon Bon expression changed from confused surprise to outright horror as she stared at the white unicorn. The stereo was pumping out electro music with the occasional DJ P-P-PON3 warping out, providing the signature that this song was a Vinyl Scratch original. The rest of the night went by with Vinyl sitting at the table behind them, continuing to play her outrageously loud music until Mr. Cake had no choice but to go and ask her to turn down her tunes to which she obliged. She had not left however until Lyra and Bon Bon finished their cake slices and exited the shop. Never had Lyra seen Bon Bon so enraged before that night. She had wanted to ask but every time she brought up the incident, Bon Bon glared daggers at her until she dropped the subject. “The time for my revenge has come…” Bon Bon whispered, darkness lacing her tone like poison. A chill slithered up Lyra’s back as she watched a sinister smile creep onto her mare friend’s visage. Vinyl pushed open the doors and stepped out of the shop with a small white box placed carefully on her back. She then stopped by a cart where Roseluck had begun packing up her wares. “Um Bon Bon…” Lyra didn’t want to admit it, but she was getting a little frightened of this unfamiliar side of the creamy mare. She couldn’t possible understand why Bon Bon was acting like this. She noticed that Bon Bon had placed a hoof protectively over the bulging saddle bag she was wearing as she watched Vinyl with unblinking eyes. “Bonny, what’s in-“ “Don’t touch!” Bon Bon hissed and Lyra froze. Bon Bon didn’t even pause to look away from Vinyl who was now buying a generously sized bouquet of roses to nip Lyra’s curiosity. Once again, the DJ was on the move which meant Bon Bon was too. Lyra consigned herself to just watching what events would unfold. Bon Bon was now too engrossed in the movements of Vinyl to bother herself with answering any more of Lyra’s questions. One thing was for sure though. Lyra would be having a long talk with Bon Bon tonight about her behavior and attitude. Eventually, Vinyl had reached her next destination which was a simple cottage at the edge of town. She knocked sharply three times before stepping back and waiting for the house’s occupant to come out. She hid the roses and white box behind her, whistling as she did so. Lyra and Bon Bon had positioned themselves behind another conveniently placed bush. Bon Bon’s breathe had grown heavier and Lyra took it as a sign that the climax of all this ridiculousness was approaching. The door silently opened and out stepped a grey mare with a carefully brushed mane. Her violet eyes regarded Vinyl with pleasant surprise. “Is that Octavia?” Lyra whispered. There was no reply but she expected as much. Nonetheless, she continued. “I didn’t they knew each other.” “Hey Octy,” Vinyl greeted, her tone bright and cheery. “Hello Vinyl, I didn’t expect to see you today. Were you not out of town this month for a tour?” “Yeah but I came back early. I...” Vinyl gulped. Lyra blinked. Was it just her or was she hearing something akin to… shyness in Vinyl’s tone? “I realized something during the time spent away from Ponyville. I couldn’t really focus on any of my shows. I kept thinking about this one pony I left behind here and it just drove me crazy thinking that I had to wait another two weeks to see her again.” Vinyl pushed up her shades, revealing a sheepish expression. A faint smile blossomed on Octavia’s face. “And who was this pony that you so desperately ended your tour to see?” Octavia asked, ears faintly tinged with red. “It was…” Suddenly, Bon Bon jumped from their hiding spot causing Lyra to fall back in surprise. With speed that rivaled even Rainbow Dash’s, she burst across the distance that separated her from Vinyl and Octavia. Reaching for her saddle bag, she jumped behind Vinyl and sprung it’s contents at the unsuspecting pair. Vinyl and Octavia watched wordlessly as unknown objects rained down upon them. “Bon Bon!” Bon Bon chanted fervently with crazed eyes. “Bon Bon!” “Bon Bon?” Vinyl turned to face the earth pony in shock. “What are you doing here?” “And why are you throwing… candy at us?” Octavia added, picking up a piece of toffee from the various sweets strewn across the ground. Lyra quickly recovered and chased after Bon Bon. “Bonny!” She grabbed the flailing earth pony by her stomach and held her down. All the while, Bon Bon was screaming her name repeatedly. Passing pedestrians turned to stare before awkwardly shuffling on. “Sorry,” Lyra grimaced as Bon Bon elbowed her in the stomach. “I really don’t know what has come over her. All she mentioned was the time you came into Sugar Cube corner with your stereo and-“ “Revenge!” Bon Bon laughed manically, forcing everypony’s gaze upon her. “It’s revenge for that that night 209 days ago!” Somehow, she produced more candy from who knows where and threw it right at Vinyl’s face. “Revenge for what?” Vinyl asked, scratching her head in incomprehension at the whole situation. “I was going to confess that night!” Bon Bon screeched. “I told you about it in trust but you just came in with that, that horrid machine of yours and ruined everything! All I could hear as I went to sleep that night was that stupid electronic voice repeatedly singing DJ PON3 in my head!” She threw more candy. “I’m really sorry Vinyl,” Lyra smiled sheepishly and began dragging the hysterical Bon Bon away. “You two forget about this and have a good evening.” “Uh… “ Vinyl stared off where the retreating figures disappeared behind some buildings. Bon Bon’s cries could still be heard somehow. “That was… quite interesting,” Octavia commented, also staring at the distance. “Bon Bon!” “Yeah, I didn’t think she held that grudge for so long…” “Did you really interrupt her confession?” Octavia asked, turning back to the DJ. “Bon Bon!” “Yeah,” Vinyl responded glumly. “I played a song that I wrote and put together as soon as Bon Bon told me was going to tell Lyra she liked her.” “Bon Bon!” “I wanted to play it for her while confessed and stuff.” Vinyl sighed, her ears flat on her head. “It turned out my sense of romantic songs was pretty different from Bonny’s.” “Bon Bon!” A giggle escaped Octavia’s muzzle before she looked at her dejected friend rather fondly. “Why don’t you come inside and we can talk more about it. And pick up the candy as well; it would be a waste to just leave it there.” “Bon Bon!” Vinyl perked up and nodded, gathering the candy, the white box, and the roses with a sweep of magic before following the grey mare inside her home. “Well, I think Bon Bon’s revenge was perfectly executed.” “Bon Bon!” “What do you mean?” Octavia asked, cocking her head to the side. “I think I’ll probably go to bed tonight with her name stuck in my head. Heck, I think it’s already stuck in my head,” Vinyl explained, reaching to close the door behind her. “Bon Bon!” “Well,” Octavia said thoughtfully. A small enigmatic smile curved her lips. “Depending on how this evening goes, I can think of a few remedies for that.” Vinyl blinked before her face broke into a wide grin as she shut the door.
