//------------------------------// // Words to be Confessed // Story: Summer of Spike // by Wildcard25 //------------------------------// It was a week before school was said to go back into session. Spike, his friends, and the girls were making the most of it. They were in the park enjoying ice cream cones, laughing and living it up. As it was getting late, everyone was heading home, until Spike spoke to Twilight, "I'm going to Rarity's for a little bit. I'll see you back home." "Ok, Spike. Remember to not stay out too late." Twilight warned him. "I know." Spike chuckled, as he and Rarity headed off together. Twilight headed home as well, while the three were unaware of Rainbow Dash watching Spike and Rarity leave looking at Spike longingly. She eventually started her way home as well. As she walked she felt as if there was nothing around her like she was cut off from reality. When she returned home, she went inside her room and kicked her shoes off. She laid down on the bed, and opened her cellphone to look at some of her selfies with Spike over the course of the Summer and the last school semester. She sighed, "I know I've come to like Spike as a good friend. Hell, he's proven to be a great student as well. I couldn't have trained another better guy in the skill of parkour. But still I feel as if I want more out of this," she closed her cellphone, "The problem is he's got Rarity, and if I tried to come between them I could lose both their friendships. But if I don't tell any of them this is only going to kill me inside. What do you think I should do about it, Tank?" she asked her pet tortoise, who looked at her slowly tilting his head, "Tell them the truth, huh? Yeah, if only it were that easy." she sighed, as she gazed up at the ceiling, while still thinking about Spike. Meanwhile at Rarity's place, Spike and Rarity were enjoying some tea, as Spike spoke, "Well, Rarity, Summer's just about over, huh?" "I know. We've made some good memories this Summer." Rarity smiled. "Yeah. And I know for sure we'll make even more memories when the new semester kicks off." Spike smiled back. "Indeed, all of us will." Rarity agreed, as she took a sip of her tea. "I just hope our friendship will last once you girls head off to college or something and I'm left in high school without you all." Spike hoped. "Spike," Rarity began, as she got up and walked over to sit next to him, "You have to remember, even if me, Twilight, or any of the others aren't with you all the time, our friendship will still last." Spike smiled, "Thanks, Rarity. I needed that." Rarity responded by kissing him, "You're welcome." The next day, Spike was up relaxing in his living room, until there was a knock at the door, "I'll get it," he said, as he answered it and saw Rainbow Dash, "Rainbow?" "Hey, Spike. Up for a little parkour run?" she offered. Spike pondered on it, before answering, "Well, I could go for some exercise. Ok." "Good. I'll meet ya downstairs." she said, as she let Spike grab his stuff. Later on, the two were running across the roof tops of buildings and jumping them before reaching one building and caught their breath, "Excellent timing, Spike." Rainbow said, between pants. "I owe my expertise to you, Rainbow," he began, "I wouldn't be half the parkour expert if not for your training." "That's why I'm awesome." Rainbow boasted. "I know." Spike agreed. "So what's say we break for lunch?" Rainbow offered. "You buying?" he asked. Rainbow's eyes dotted right from left, "Uh... We'll split." Spike rolled his eyes expecting this, "Fair enough." And so the two climbed down the fire escape to reach the ground. Soon they were having lunch at their favorite pizza hang out, as Spike spoke, "Ah, nothing like pizza after a good exercise." he ate a slice. "You took the words right out of my mouth, Spike." Rainbow agreed, as she ate a slice herself. "Though I'm guessing by the time the new semester starts we'll have to limit our parkour training to weekends, huh?" Spike asked. "Them's the breaks, kid." she replied with a shrug. "Well, it won't be so bad," Spike admitted, "I mean, with a new year for all of us the school work's gonna be even harder" "No kidding. That's why we got to make the most of this last week, before we go back." Rainbow said. "I hear ya," Spike agreed, as Rainbow continued to watch him while trying to hide a faint blush that was forming on her face. Spike noticing this spoke, "Rainbow Dash, are you ok?" Rainbow snapped out of it, and answered, "Fine, why do you ask?" "Your face looks a little red." he noted. "Probably form all this sun. I'm going to the bathroom. Be back in a moment." she got up and headed for the ladies room. "Rainbow... The sun's not even shining down on us." he said, noticing the sun wasn't in direct contact with them. Inside the ladies room, Rainbow was splashing water on her face, while looking at her reflection, "Get a hold of yourself, Rainbow Dash. You're starting to turn into Fluttershy around Spike," she took some deep breaths until she was calm, "Ok. Whatever happens I can't lose myself in front of Spike like that." "Like what?" a voice asked, as Rainbow jumped, and turned to see Derpy Hooves, a friend from school. "How long have you been there?" Rainbow asked nervously. "Since you were comparing yourself to Fluttershy." Derpy answered. "You didn't hear anything!" Rainbow ordered, as she bolted. Derpy looked confused, "Hear what?" she asked feeling clueless. Rainbow returned to the table, and after finishing their meal and paying, the two headed off. They stopped off at the arcade and played some video games. Spike was currently playing some pinball, and managed to hit a high score. He looked over at where Rainbow was, currently pounding whack-a-mole's with the mallet. He thought to himself, 'It's nice to just hang out here with Rainbow Dash. She really is a great friend. Too bad it can't be anything more than that between us.' he dismissed it, and decided to go for another round of pinball. Later on, the two were walking in the park, before sitting down by the river as it was already twilight hour. Spike tossed a stone into the river and watched the ripples, "This was a great day, Rainbow. Thanks for inviting me out here." "No sweat, dude," Rainbow admitted, until she looked at Spike, and just the look of his smiling face started making her stomach churn, 'Oh, no. It's happening again. What do I do now?' she thought in worry. Spike looked over at her, "Rainbow, are you sure you're ok?" "Of course I am." she answered. "I don't know, you have been acting strange as of late." "How strange?" "Well, I've noticed times you've avoided eye contact with me, and when I look at you, you end up looking away from me. What's wrong, Rainbow Dash. You can tell me." he pleaded. Rainbow blushed at how close Spike was getting, before she spoke, "Ok. There's something on my mind, and I can't shake it off!" "What is it?" Spike asked, wanting to help her. Rainbow took his hands, which surprised him, as she looked at her bearing a innocent little girl face, "Spike, the truth is, I-I'm in love with you!" she declared. Spike's eyes widened at Rainbow's declaration, until Rainbow realized what she did, "I'm sorry, that came out stupid. Forget I said it." she dismissed it. "What?" he asked, "You expect me to just suddenly forget that you just told me you loved me?" he then glanced at the river and saw above them were the reflections of their friends. They looked and saw they were standing there looking at the two in shock, but Rarity was distraught, "Girls, uh, how long have you all been there?" Rainbow asked in worry. "Long enough." Applejack answered. "We're sorry we overheard." Fluttershy apologized. Rainbow and Spike noticed Rarity's look of hurt, and Spike spoke, "Rarity, listen." "Oh, no. It's ok. I shouldn't really be here." she dismissed his words with a fake smile, and was about to leave until Rainbow spoke up. "Rarity, wait! I know you didn't want to hear that, but what I said was true. At first I didn't think it was this serious, but over time I started looking deep into it, and now I am for certain. And I just can't hide it from you, because I would just be dishonest. But I am... I'M IN LOVE WITH SPIKE!" she declared, as she turned to Spike and pulled him into a kiss, taking the girls by surprise, while Rarity felt as if her heart shattered and was betrayed. When Rainbow removed her lips from Spike she spoke, "I'm sorry." Rarity's eyes started swelling up with tears, and she ran away crying, "Rarity!' the girls cried. Spike looked back at Rainbow feeling betrayed, and ran after Rarity, "Rarity, come back!" Applejack looked to Rainbow in disappointment, "What were ya thinkin?" "You just practically broke Rarity's heart by kissing Spike in front of her." Twilight added. "That's a big no-no, Rainbow Dash." Pinkie said, while waving a finger. "I-I couldn't help it," Rainbow said, as she dropped to her knees, "I just wanted to let me feelings be known." she began crying on how she betrayed two of her friends. Fluttershy despite feeling that Rainbow shouldn't have done that, approached her and comforted her, as Rainbow cried onto her shoulder. The sports girl cried, and thought to herself, 'Rarity, Spike, I'm so sorry.'
