Recollection pt.2

It was the last week of August when the war ended. I heard
The grove was pretty small, about thirty yards across at its widest, and had a small creek that trickled between two small rises in the land. There was also a wooden cabin large enough to have three rooms: a bathroom, a bedroom large enough to hold four beds, and a kitchen with a woodstove.

We had been in the grove for a couple of days when, while hiking, we began hearing a persistent buzzing sound that was considerably louder than the flies and mosquitos that flew around our heads. Twilight asked me to fly overhead and see if I could find the source. I agreed, and flew above the treetops. After a few moments, I found the source of the mysterious buzzing and my heart turned to lead.

It was changelings.

So much for the relaxing vacation we had planned.

I positioned myself in the air in such away that my shadow didn't give my position away to the enemy below. I quickly tried to count them for a rough estimate, and came up with around a hundred of them. I left as quickly as I had came, and reported my findings.

"Changelings? This far in the Everfree? This is unheard of." Twilight grumbled, mostly to herself. " Which way were they headed Rainbow?" I thought back for a second before answering, "They were going North by Northwest." Twilight paused for a moment trying to think of something, "What towns are in that direction?" Applejack was the one to respond, "Well, there's Cloudsdale and Canterlot for starters but those are pretty far away and the Everfree is quite a bit out of the way for either of those to be a reasonable destination." Me, Pinkie Pie and Twilight's eyes widened in realization and practically shouted in unison, "Ponyville!" Rarity spoke up then, "You don't think they would-" I cut her off, "Do you think they wouldn't? It's no secret that we, their most hated enemy, call Ponyville our home. It's the perfect target for them!"

Before anypony else could continue, Twilight raised her hoof, commanding attention, "C'mon girls, we can talk about this in the grove. We don't want them to hear us." I snorted, "Fat chance. They probably couldn't hear us if we were shouting." At the look on Twilight's face, I backpedaled, " I mean, um, let's get moving ladies! Hup two, three, four! You too Spike!" Grumbling and shaking their heads in exasperation, they went, with me trailing behind to make sure that the changelings had not, in fact, heard us.
