//------------------------------// // Introduction // Story: The Lost Lesson // by PFT //------------------------------// They used to say that Alicorns were non-existent. Then Celestia and Luna came along in 970. When that happened, it changed to being a sign of royal birth. No pony before had been born like this, and they believed that no pony after would either, unless they were the offspring of a princess. In 1104, 100 years after the banishment of Nightmare Moon, the first science textbook was published, and it claimed that only one had ever been born. But despite being off, this would remain the communal scientific claim for several hundred years. A small minority remembered Princess Luna, but these ponies were usually shunned by their counterparts, barred from leadership posts, and some were even exiled- not by the princess, but secretly by their peers. For nearly 900 years, the consensus only stated that there had only ever been one born. No such scientific agreement could be reached on how they were created. In 1987, in DeTrot, a 20-year old Unicorn named Anna Unihart and a 21-year old Pegasus named James Stablehaus fell in love while attending different schools. Anna was at Librarian College; James, who was affectionately known as Jack to some of his friends, was at DeTrot Academy, gaining expertise in medicine for the job he had held for 8 years. 2 years later, they moved to Maresland, shortly after they married, where James' family lived. The Uniharts, Anna’s family, had never been pleased with their daughter’s actions. Not even at age 3, when she left home to attend school- a path she left 16 years later to pursue her dream of being a librarian. In November 1993, Anna began to feel… unusual. It would turn out that she was pregnant. James was thrilled- he secretly hoped that the filly would be a Pegasi, and he would teach him to fly, to write in the sky, and to go to Wonderbolts events with. Anna was too- though she secretly hoped that the filly would be a Unicorn- preferably a girl, she’d always liked the name Elizabeth- and that she would become the next great Royal Assistant- Celestia was having trouble with assistants as her longtime assistant had left in 1986, and she had had 10 different assistants since- none of them had been nearly as good as the one who left in ’86. ________________________________________ The colt was to change not only their lives, but would overturn an 890-year theory and cause significant change in Equestria.
