Shadow of a Dark Lord

by Dark_Lord_71

Darkness Blessed

Rain drops fell from the sky, pounding his bloodied face with the force of a thousand giants. He crawled among the rubble of his once beautiful castle above Hyrule Castle Field, with every inch filled with regret and pain. He breathed heavily, clinging to life with every fiber of his body. His armor broken and tearing off, he tried to pull himself up upon a piece of sharp rubble, cutting his hand slightly. Surprised by the pain, he collapsed again, holding his hand. He began to growl.

“Grrrr… RAAH!” Ganondorf yelled as he slammed the ground with his fist. The ground cracked with the force of an angry soul. Rock shards flew all around him, the air silencing in fear. The rain refused to stop, with thunder crackling in the background. Ganondorf fell to his hands.

“Why… why must I always fail!?” he asked himself, a cough following.

When he managed to stand up, Ganondorf began to stumble around, looking at the broken rock that was once his beautiful castle wondering why it was all stripped away from him. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw something glisten. A memory of destruction it was, terribly reminding Ganondorf of the horrors that had recently occurred.

A scent of frustration braced the wind, which quieted the blows upon the dark lord’s face. How dare it mock him and his anger! The Dark Lord charged with the small might he had left towards the sword, scooping it up in his cracked, black hands. It was shattered, the remnants of the tip of the sword unfound. Useless, it was. Useless! Ganondorf began to slam the sword on the rubble below him, grunting as he does so. With all of his force, he chucked the sword toward rubble outwards.

Ganondorf was having trouble breathing. The wound upon his chest was proving to be very hindering. Holding his chest where the wound bled, he ran toward the sword upon the ground, punting it in the air with an agonizing scream.

Breathing so heavily to the point of moaning, Ganondorf collapsed once again, exhausted. He had lost all hope he ever had, slamming the ground with his fist. There was nothing he could do. He couldn’t just come back again, for the lord knew his fate. He had lost.

Ganondorf suddenly noticed something to his right. It was shining, but not in the same way as his sword. It was a faint, constant glow. It was arriving from a book, charred and black upon the cover. Dust from the castle’s remnants covered it with a brown-black coat. Curious, Ganondorf picked up the book, wiping off the dust, his hands shaking. The book was too charred to tell what was on the cover, but opening up, the words upon the black book glowed with a light purple. The language was old Hylian, which Ganondorf promptly read aloud to himself out of curiousity.

“Ye who holds loss, and ye who holds perseverance: May ye find a way another way to claim your victories. Another chance, given to ye from the gods. Be blessed, lost soul.” He read. After a moment or two, he huffed.

“Bah! Garbage.” Ganondorf hissed as he tossed the book. “A child’s book. Why did I even bother."

Oddly, Ganondorf began to feel a rather tickling sensation in his hands. He looked at them, but there was nothing more than his bloodied shame. He became rather worried, as it spread to his arms, and then his legs, and even then to his chest.

"Ghh...What in the name of the gods is happening to me? What is this wretched feeling?" he asked himself. The pain began to fade as the numbing sensation took over. He could barely move, and his feet were grounded upon the ground, too numb to move.

"Foul curse! Leave me be!"

Suddenly, much to the dark lord’s surprise, light began to envelop him. His eyes widened as his wrecked heart began to pump. Ganondorf flailed his arms and legs about, trying to cancel out the light with shadow energy, but it was no use. As the tingling effect fully numbed him, Ganondorf let out a wail. The light then blinded him, and soon, he was unconscious.

---------------------------

“Huah!” Ganondorf gasped as he sprung awake. He was breathing heavily, and nearly immediately, he clenched his chest. The wound had vanished, and he felt full of vigor. He was also, however, full of confusion. He had no idea where he was nor any idea why he was even still alive.

Looking around, it was clear he was in a cell of sorts. He was not underground, for he could see light out a window. He knew he was imprisoned. He looked down at his fist, glowing with a dark aura, grinding his teeth. He wasn’t frustrated that he was imprisoned. The bars looked about as strong as a piece of wet paper. He was frustrated that he had lost, again, to the one in green.

The creaking of a door occurred at the end of the long hall to his right. He hard many footsteps, as if a mob was coming to poke sharp spears at him. He heard female voices, mumbling something. When they came in sight, Ganondorf was speechless.

“What the hell…” Ganondorf whispered to himself.

There were horses. About six of them. Four in armor, two with crowns. They were rather colorful and bright, which the dark lord more than disliked, and they stared at him as they approached cautiously. The white one spoke first.

“I’m going to keep this brief, as you will. Who are you?” the crowned one demanded.

Ganondorf chuckled. “I’m astonished I am unheard of to you. I believe the real question is what the hell are you? A horse that can speak, it seems to me. How amusing. It’s true then: I’ve gone insane.”

The blue one began to whisper into the other’s ear. “Sister, it’s obvious he’s alienated to here. What do we do?”

“You just let me handle this, Luna.” the white one whispered back. “Alright. Can you tell us your name?”

“Ganondorf. Future king of Hyrule. What of it, cretin?" He pouted.

"You dare call my sister a cretin? I'll have you know--"

"Luna! It's fine. He will learn soon enough." The white horse announced. Luna stepped back and nodded.

"Now, to the more important question. What are you doing here, Ganondorf?"

"It's amusing that you believe I can claim that knowledge. I know as much about where I am as you know about me. You only know of my legacy, and I only know of the putridity of this place." Ganondorf spit. "It's very apparently you aren't warm to visitors..."

"We've only locked you up because you expelled dark power, "king". We're protecting our people from a potential threat."

"You best beware, horse creature, I have powers beyond your imagining. Do not tempt me, unless you enjoy every fiber of your body being destroyed." Ganondorf threatened. He spit again. A guard suddenly intervened.

"Prisoner! You will refra-ah-aaaagh!"

The sisters looked at the guard, who's neck was surrounded by a dark aura. He was then tossed back with the force of Ganondorf's hand thrust, slamming a wall.

"Any more questions... Your majesty? Huhahaha." Ganondorf joked. The white horse remained calm.

"Yes. Many." She answered. Ganondorf was shocked.

"You still pester me? Did you not see what just occurred, imbecile?"

"I, too, have powers equal or greater than yours. Don't make me use them." The horse warned.

Ganondorf chuckled. "This must be a joke."

"You should consider your attitude more carefully, Ganondorf." Luna warned. "Our elements of harmony have beaten the darkest of dark lords. Sombra, Discord, even myself in a more horrid state. They are prophesied."

Prophesied. A word Ganondorf hated. He was instantly reminded of the master sword and Link, yet he didn't let up with his misbehavior.

"And why must I? I have been removed from my legacy. I have lost against a petty usurper. Honestly, you think I have something to lose?" Ganondorf exclaimed. "You can't be serious. Kill me now, it won't make a difference."

"You were... Dethroned?" The white one wondered.

"Of course. A "hero" they call him, entered my castle, slew all of my underlings, and attempted to slay me. As you can see, the boy failed. Barely." Ganondorf told.

"Barely?"

"Of course. I wouldn't be here otherwise, intelligent one. I was stabbed in the chest. My castle then collapsed on top of me. However, the only detail of that remaining is the shattered part of my armor here." Ganondorf said as he pointed to his chest.

"And then you blacked out." Luna added.

"As far as I remember, yes. Now, leave me be or end up like your “guard” over there. Not so much of guard now, is he? Hah!”

“Come sister, this buffoon is obviously lying to our faces. Let’s leave the madman be.” Luna insisted.

“...I cannot disagree.” the white princess responded. “Let’s leave him. We’ll come back to interrogate properly at later time."

Ganondorf scoffed. “Begone. You will know your place if you don't."

The horses ignored him. They walked out the way they came, turned off the lights, and then, again, Ganondorf was in darkness. Cold, damp, darkness.

Hours passed as Ganondorf lay in the stall, not planning, not weeping. Just laying with a distant look on his face. There were no sounds unmade by him. It was completely and utterly empty. The more he lay in the cell, the more he questioned why he tired himself by playing along.

Soon, the sun went down, and the darkness became even more enveloping. Ganondorf smirked as he gazed down at his fist, where three golden triangles shone dimly. He could feel only but a bit of power in them. Why must he stay here? He’s the king of the Hyrule, nay, the world! Sitting idle is just a waste of time!

Ganondorf stood up and clenched his fist. He took a stance, pulling his hand back, and then suddenly, with a blast of dark energy and all of his might…

“HuuuaARGH!” Ganondorf yelled as he thrusted his fist forward, absolutely shattering the cage that held him. It fell apart completely in a fraction of a second. “Heh. Weak bars of iron. Could they not have done anything more?”

Not three steps out of the cage, he heard something behind him: a dark, rough, grinding sound. Flinching around, the sound had ended, but there was something on the floor, small and still. Ganondorf carefully edged his way uneasily to the white object. Upon his closest inspection, it was a letter.

"What buffoonery is this? Show yourself, worm!" Ganondorf ordered, but nothing responded. It was as lonely and quiet as it had been for hours. Agitated, he opened the letter and read carefully in the darkness. He could barely understand what was on it.

Ganondorf,

I've been watching. My name is Don Ferrous, and I am a resident of Equestria here. I'm taking an educated guess that you don't trust many others, but if you trust me, I can help you. I can sense it in you; your desire for raw power and rule. I feel the same way as you, except there's a great difference between us. That difference is nothing short of current power. You possess with you a great power. The whole world was unsettled when you set foot in our world. I've been researching, you see, of a legend of ultimate power: a power that could easily take our world and rip it apart. I want to help you receive it. If you place your trust in me, even the slightest bit, you will receive everything you've worked for in life. However, you can't do it unarmed. You are currently in Canterlot castle, high in the air. If you get behind the castle and enter stealthily on the first floor, there is a small armory filled with weapons, armor, and a teleportation device to the bottom of the mountain Canterlot rests upon. I will send you a new letter when you manage to get that far.

-Don Ferrous

"What in the name of..." Ganondorf trailed off, concerned. What? Someone was watching him? How dare they! Ganondorf needs no aliases! The Dark Lord tossed the putrid letter on the ground and raised his foot. Suddenly, however, he heard many footsteps from the other side of the door at the end of the hallway. Perhaps there was no other choice at the moment. There was no time to spare now.

Pounding began to occur on the door. Quickly, Ganondorf looked to the window, and noticed there was a small edge big enough to walk upon, or at least balance along it. With a furious spartan kick, the window shattered, glass shards raining down below to the ground. As quickly as a buff, armored Gerudo could, he firmly sat himself on the ledge of the castle exterior, easily able to scrape by. But what did the letter say? An armory in the back of the castle on the first floor?

The door in the room exploded open, with guards yelling "freeze!"

Ganondorf weighed his options, and in the end ultimately decided against his better judgement.

"Ah, hell with it!" Ganondorf snorted as he leaped from the castle. The ground came toward him quickly, luckily grassy, but Ganondorf knew exactly what to do. While falling, he repositioned himself where his foot was pointing down. His Triforce of power began to glow in his hand, and suddenly, a dark, sharp aura surrounded his leg as he crashed into the ground like a meteor, unhurt. The ground shook at his tremendous power and many roots were uplifted. He then began to venture around the building to where he was told the so called "armory" was.

As he slowly traveled across the grounds, steadily and stealthily as a he could, Ganondorf saw flying creatures in the air swarming the castle, some screaming orders. He then ran into a guard with his back facing him up ahead. Ganondorf huffed as he approached him. When the guard turned around, he had a surprised look on him.

"Sir! This armory is off-limi--"

"Shut your useless mouth!" Ganondorf grunted as he slammed the guard's neck with his elbow. The guard flew against the wall, crumbling a good chunk of it. Ganondorf kicked some stray pieces that lay in his path. In the small armory, there were many weapons about. Maces, ball and chains, nearly everything you can imagine. But Ganondorf fancied two large claymores that he saw. The raw power Ganondorf possessed allowed him to pick them up in one hand and swing with ease without wasting too much energy. He nabbed them off the shelf and began to look for the so called teleportation device.

A siren went off. The whole castle was up in arms, trying to find Ganondorf. He heard swooping right outside the armory, and drastically he smashed open a box making a faint whispering sound.

"Hah!" He chuckled as he found a glowing cube like device with a button on it inside the box.

"Freeze!" The guards shouted as they entered the armory room.

"Too little too late, 'guards'! Huahaha!" Ganondorf laughed.

"Get him!" The guards yelled as they all rushed toward him. Ganondorf then pressed the button on the device as soon as they were about to tackle him, and within a second, he disappeared. They had lost him.

Ganondorf plopped on the soft ground with a grunt. He felt the claymores on his back, and heard the sirens from above. The task of simple survival was upon him yet again, but this time, oh, this time, he would not falter. Ganondorf looked up at the distant Canterlot, where lights were flashing and flying creatures were swarming the whole place.

"Tch. Idiots." Ganondorf scoffed as he sat down to rest and think. It seems that Ganondorf's second chance had come. He sat in an opening of a forest as he thought about his near future. How would things play out this time? Will there be a prophesied hero to come save the day? How is he going to survive with such a weak power to his Triforce? What of those Elements of Harmony they mentioned? Are they as powerful as the Master Sword? Even if they are, though, this time, nobody will stop him. He has the only Triforce now, even if it is rather weakened for some reason or another. All the power belongs to him and there is no courageous halfwit to come put an end to it. He smiled. This was his destiny, and he knew it.

Suddenly, something smooth hit the back of his head. Surprised, Ganondorf span around only to find another letter. He laughed.

"And to think I was about to crush a skull. Disappointing." He said to himself as he opened the letter.

Well done!

I'm very impressed! Two claymores and a clean escape! You are a very potent fighter and escapist it seems. Yes, it's me again, Don Ferrous. Now, a word of advice: I wouldn't stay there too long. Those guards are going absolutely insane trying to find you. They're searching everywhere. Thankfully, all of the witnesses that saw you are knocked out or worse. Now that you are well prepared, there is a meeting place that is completely safe. You must find it, though. Yonder due east of Canterlot, or the opposite way from the mountain, is a castle upon another rather large hill. My hideout is there. If you can make it there, it is then I can really help you to get what you want.

-Don Ferrous

"Tch." Ganondorf said as he crushed the paper. "All expositions. A man unable to meet me face to face is nothing but an untrustable small boy."

Ganondorf stomped on the paper, but he looked at his situation. He had landed in a foreign land without any known means of conquering or power, and he knows nobody and has no reliable minions. It seems there was no choice but to trust this "Don Ferrous".

And so, the legacy of Ganondorf Dragmire begins again. With swords on his back, he set off for the distant castle mentioned in the letter. A dark forest was the only thing between Ganondorf and his goal of reaching this new mysterious ally, and along the way, he can only wonder what this will all lead to.
