//------------------------------// // Brothers and Cupcakes // Story: Brothers and Cupcakes // by dashybrony2012 //------------------------------// "Alright kids, that's it for today. Have a nice weeken-" the glorious sound of a bell ringing, signaling the end of a school day interrupted the teacher. Joyous cheers spread amongst the little fillies and colts as each young child raced for the door, eager to claim their freedom. The beige colored teacher only smiled and shook her head as she attempted to remind them about their upcoming test. She sighed as she moved to pack her own things. Even teachers enjoyed a weekend after all. ●○●○●○●○●○ A grey unicorn stood outside the quaint schoolhouse. His golden eyes scanned the swarm of young children, his gaze searching for the pink and brown mane of a young filly. A tuft of pearl white hair fell down and he blew it away as he continued his wait, frowning faintly in worry as the crowd of children and their parents dissipated leaving only a few fillies and colts lingering around, hesitant to say their goodbyes to each other as they made plans for their weekends. Worry made its entrance as creases appeared on the stallion's face, his eyes narrowing slightly in thought. What could be holding her up...gah I hope everything's fine. Hopefully she didn't get in trouble...again. He sighed. He looked towards the door of the schoolhouse and relief washed over him as he trotted up to the filly standing in the doorway, a smile on his face. "Hey Savvy," he grinned down at her. The little tan filly gave him a half-hearted smile in return. "Hi Lanty.." she shifted her saddlebags. Atlantean's flaxen eyes studied Butterscotch's demeanor. He decided to not say anything. Not yet. A gentle hoof on her shoulder he led her away from the auburn school towards the road the two always took home. The grey unicorn looked down, checking on his little Pegasus sibling. Something was definitely wrong. She hasn't said anything the whole time the two walked. Normally the young filly would be bouncing circles around him in excitement for a promised weekend. But today, that wasn't the case. "Hey...Savvy?" His little sister perked up a bit at the mention of her nickname. Her big brown eyes met his golden ones. "Yeah Lanty?" ".....is everything okay?" he asked tentatively. He watched the little filly beside him. Butterscotch's lower lip started to quiver slightly as she stared down at her small hooves. "Not really..." a mumble escaped from her lips. Her brother crouched next to her, making his eyes level with hers, concern shrouding his demeanor. "Butterscotch-sis-what's wrong?" the little filly fidgeted before looking into her brother's eyes. "I have a math test coming up and Ms. Teacher said it's easy but..." Butterscotch explained to her brother. Atlantean nodded as he understood. He bit his lip, he knew how much his little sister struggled in math. He gave her a reassuring smile and a pat on the back. "Hey, you'll be fine. I struggled in math too when I was your age," he assured her, chuckling quietly as he remembered his same dilemma years ago. He shook his head as he thought of a way to help his little sister as the two started walking again. The little Pegasus beside him let out a discouraged sigh, then squeaked as a yellow aurora surrounded her and she found herself nestled in a mop of alabaster hair. She couldn't help but giggle as hair tickled her nose while her brother trotted off the road, a smile on his own face as he heard his little sister laugh. "Hang on Savvy, oh! Close your eyes!" he instructed her happily. The little tan filly on his head complied grabbing onto her older brother as he quickened his pace. "Where are we going Lanty? Butterscotch piped up,her eyes still squeezed shut. "You'll see little sis," he laughed as he eventually slowed down in front of a tastefully decorated bakery that reminded Atlantean of a gingerbread house. He looked up at his little sister. "Savvy..you can look now," he chuckled. An excited gasp tickled his ears as he lowered his younger sister down. She bounced once, twice, three times before looking up at her brother. "Can we go in Lanty?'' the charcoal unicorn chuckled as he ruffled her mane. "Why else would I bring you here silly?" Butterscotch grinned as she hopped to the door of the gingerbread house lookalike. "Come on then!'' she pushed open the door, bells jingling as the siblings walked in. "Hello there sweeties, how can I help you?" A blue mare with pink hair greeted them with a wide smile to which the two returned. "Hi Mrs. Cake, I just wanted a cupcake, if I may, and some butterscotch candies," Atlantean told her, placing a small pile of bits on the counter. The pink-maned mare nodded as she swept up the bits and got out a bag. Butterscotch squealed happily as Mrs. Cake filled the bag with a generous scoop of the little filly's favorite hard candy. "Thank you Mrs. Cake," Atlantean accepted the cupcake and bag of goodies as the baker smiled. "Anytime honey. You two have a good day now!" the grey stallion nodded his appreciation as he walked away with a bouncy filly in tow. He chuckled as he saw her happy face and extended his hoof that was holding the cupcake. She fluttered off the ground and grabbed the cupcake gleefully. "Thank you Lanty!" she went to give her brother a hug but stopped as she realized she couldn't with the tasty treat in her hooves. A golden light surrounded her cupcake and levitated it in front of her, freeing her hooves. Butterscotch wasted no time as she wrapped her hooves around her brother's neck. He smiled. "You're welcome kiddo," he gave her the delicious treat back and watched as she licked the frosting, earning her a white frosting mustache. Atlantean held back a laugh as the two left the bakery behind as they continued their way home. ●○●○●○●○●○ "You feeling better Savvy?" he asked the floating filly next to him as she ate her cupcake. She lifted her head and looked at her brother. By now, she had acquired a wonderful beard and Atlantean had to try really hard not to laugh at the oblivious filly. "Yeah! Thanks big brother, you're the best," she grinned happily. Atlantean laughed as he wrapped a hoof around her, pulling her in for a hug. "You too little sis...you too."
