A prank gone awkward

Chapter II

Cotton Candy blinked in surprise. He... wanted to date her? But that couldn't be right. He wasn't supposed to act like this. Even a bit shocked, Candy felt a bit of joy. He liked her! Wait, wait: it was bad. It was really bad. Usually taking jokes seriously was good, but... how could he even like her?

"That's great, but...", she started.

"... But what? Cotton, you just asked me out. Trust me, you're totally cool enough to be my girlfriend!"

"Yes, I hope I am, but..."

Ugh, she couldn't say it. Just four little words! It-was-a-joke. She shook her head and finally looked up to Prism.

"You're a really cool guy and I'm happy you like me, but... it was just a joke."

She gulped as sweat dripped down her cheeks. Prism was speechless. He blinked once or twice and looked down, his voice was a bit trembling. He was really disappointed. Oh, no no no no no, Prism, don't cry. Candy thought. Cause... C-cause if you c-cry... I'll cry-y-y... She didn't realize it soon enough, but she was actually really crying. She hid her tears with her hair.

"Well... Okay... Nice one, Candy. Really. I really fell for it."

She could feel an upset tone in his voice now. Especially at the end. She tried to say, or to at least mumble him to not go away or anything, but couldn't say a word. Her hair was all wet because of her tears, and none of them could hide their sadness. Prism Bolt sighed and flew away. Candy looked down. What did she just do??? Oh right. She lost her best friend. She smashed the "gift" she made to pieces before walking back home.

"Hmmpffgg...", mumbled the light blue mare in her sleep.

"Candy, it's noon already!", squeaked a voice.

Cotton Candy turned over to glare at her two younger sister twins, Sugar Rush and Cloudy Skies. She waved annoyedly a hoof at their faces, mumbling some more.

"I need sleeeeeep... I couldn't fell asleep early enough. Shoo!"

"Sheesh, fine.", groaned Sugar.

"Geez, fine.", added Cloudy.

The two fillies trotted out the door, leaving their drooly, sleepy sister. Her mane was really a mess. She buried her face into her pillow. She felt really bad for what she did to Prism. Especially that, well, she really didn't mind dating him!

"... Wait, what?"

Candy thought about it again. Yeah. She didn't mind dating him. Yeah, she actually would like dating him. It would be nice. Or even great. Oh well, she WANTED to date him! Candy smiled at that thought. She stood up and jumped on her bed.

"I actually liiike him! Woo! Yay! Hurray! Yippee!"

She fell on her back and sighed. Well, everything was going to work out. Only... if she could talk to him again. She frowned at that thought. She closed her eyes again, hoping to sleep, but her heart jumped, like to make her move. She had to talk to Prism! She jumped off her bed, brushed her mane quickly, and brushed her teeth. She instantly regretted the moment she smashed the gift to pieces... But what was done was done. She galloped as fast as she could through the kitchen, kissed her parents on the way. There was no time to waste! She borrowed the hot air balloon.

"Ugh, no time to call mom to teach me how to use this thing!"

She turned on the fire and up she went. She was scared something would happen... But nothing did. It was probably magic. But no time to think about it. Then she slapped her face: clouds! She needed an unicorn to walk on clouds! Why didn't she think about it earlier?! Now, um... how to turn the flames off... Sweat dripped down her head and she blew out on the flames, but it only grew bigger. She really started to panic.

"Um... uuhhhh...!!"

The flame reached the balloon! She started to cry for help, but she was pretty far from earth. The ropes burned and the platform she was on dropped. She shrieked and held on to the still flying balloon. But the flames reached her hooves, and she fell.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-...!", she shouted before opening her eyes again.

She felt muscled arms wrapped around her. She looked at the pony who was holding her and saw a sweaty, huffing Prism Bolt. She blushed deeply when she saw him. The blue pegasus landed right in the park where she played her prank, which reminded her of why she came in the first place.

"Thanks for saving me Prism.", she said, still blushing.

"Yeah. Whatever.", he replied monotonously.

"Listen, Bolt, I just wan-"

"No, it's fine Candy. I get it. It was a prank and you thought it was funny or something..."

"No, wait, Prism, actuall-"

"It's fine you don't love me, 'Dy. I'll just move on."

Now she just smiled. Did he just use the word "love"? She quickly gave him a kiss on his cheek.

"Candy! You're not really helping me move on, you know!", he groaned and pushed her away with his wing.

"Priiiiiiiism! I want to kiss you!", she said, puckering up.

"Candy, you're weird... And that's kinda mea-"

He didn't finish his sentence. Candy didn't want to hear the rest of it anyway. It was probably stupid. She just kissed him right on the lips. Both blushed intensively at the sudden contact. Candy passed her hoof on his neck to push in the kiss. It was her first, but she seemed to do it right. Finally, she opened her golden eyes again and broke the kiss.

"Hm...", they both muttered. That was awkward.

"All that to say that, well... Will you be my boyfriend?", she asked him again, smiling.

"Tsssk, me go out with an earth pony like you?", he snickered.

She pouted at his reply. Why did he say that all of a sudden?

"Don't you get it? All that was a prank too. I'd never have a crush on my Prank Partner."

"Yeah... Me neither... Haha, that's... silly...", her throat felt dry.

"C'mon, 'Dy I was kidding!", he smiled. "I'd totally be your boyfriend."

She smiled. He really gave her a fright. She nuzzled him and kissed him everywhere on his face.

"Woah, calm down with the kisses", he giggled. "Actually, kiss on~"

They both laughed together. Ah, what a great day! And now they had to announce it to everypony. Or keep it a secret until they get married. They'll just let destiny choose. Cause destiny makes the right choices, right? The two lovers walked back home, the stallion's wing warmly wrapping over the mare's back.
