Mommy's Little Star

Twilight woke the next day with her daughter still in her hooves. She wanted more than anything to have dreamt about the previous events but she knew it wasn’t just a dream. This meant that she had to use the spell and go back in time. When she reached out to grab the paper on the nightstand she saw a skeleton in the corner of the room. Twilight jumped back and squeezed the pillow she had been holding. Wait, a pillow? She pushed the pillow away and searched frantically for her daughter. Finally the realization of Star not being there in the room with her made contact and she calmed down. Maybe she had dreamt it all and everything was all right. No, it wasn’t, she was in Zecora’s hut and a pony skeleton lies in the corner of the hut. Twilight stood up off the bed and went over to the skeletal remains of the pony. “What happened here, perhaps I should go back in time to the point that this happened first?” Twilight held the paper up to her face to read the spell and then the noise of glass rattling around shook her from her concentration. Twilight looked up from the spell and saw a bottle with a purple liquid inside. The bottle rocked back and forth on a high shelf as a rat ran past it kicking up dust as it did. She hurried and jumped to catch the bottle as it fell from the shelf. She had just managed to catch it. With a bit of concentration, she was able to turn the purple liquid white and opened up the bottle. This would be better then going back in time. “Here we go.” Twilight drank some of the liquid. “Wait, why did I say we, I.” Twilight was cut off when her eyes turned white.

Twilight found herself in the center of the hut with all the decorations, trinkets, and souvenirs that covered the walls. The potions and other things were missing though. “Sorry my dear friend, I fear that this is the end.” Twilight turned to Zecora and saw her packing away her things. Twilight looked up and on the shelf was the bottle that Zecora reached up to grab. Twilight wanted to tell her not to go but she knew that it would be useless. The sound of banging on the door stopped Zecora from grabbing the bottle. “Who could be so rude, I am in no mood?” Zecora put her bag down as a timberwolf crashed in through the window behind her and another one broke down the door. “My ugly friends, I don’t care that this is my end.” Before Twilight realized what happened, the zebra was tackled and killed. Zecora didn’t care though, she had lost her friends. Death didn’t matter to her now.

Twilight popped back into the present with tears in her eyes. “Zecora, I’m so sorry.” With closer inspection, she could see a dark red blood stain underneath the skeleton. She could also see the dust and cobwebs that covered the walls and everything on them. The door to the hut was gone, the sounds of timberwolves could be heard outside and the window was shattered. Twilight quickly read the spell just as a timberwolf came into view from the front door, “_Take me to the night it all began_” she read the last words of the spell. She glared at the wolf as the spell took hold, she disappeared and left the paper to drift to the ground.

Once she reappeared, Zecora jumped and yelped in surprise. “What?”

“No time Zecora, I have a job to do.” Twilight pushed past Zecora, ran out the door and took flight. There was no time for talk, she had to fix everything. She had caused her daughters death as well as Zecora’s. At least that’s how she felt. She had caused her friends to hate her, not to mention that she ruined their lives more or less. It had really been part of their decision but it didn’t matter. This had to end tonight; she would have to make sure that her daughter would never be born. She didn’t feel good about it but it would be better that Star never be born than to have everypony’s life be ruined because Star was born. It had to be this way, there was no other option.

Soon Twilight found herself and Star talking or really just Star complaining. “No, I don’t want to disappear; I want to be with you.” This was it; Twilight listened in on the conversation. She wouldn’t interfere until the moment was right. She stodd and readied herself just out of sight and then her past self started to say those words.

“I won’t let, ugh.” Future Twilight had tackled the present, or past, let’s just say the younger Twilight. Yes, older and younger Twilight. “What’s the, oh no, what big problem is it this time?” Younger Twilight asked.

Older Twilight looked over to Star and then back at herself. “You have to let her go. I don’t know how much time I have here but you have to let Star go, she must never be born.” Older Twilight received a hurt and shocked expression from her younger self.

“I, is it really that bad?” Young Twilight asked. If her older self came back to tell her younger self to not have Star, then something had to be bad right but first she would get an explanation.

“Yes, it really is that bad. You lose your friendship with your friends, your family is shunned along with your friends and Princess Celestia and Princess Luna can’t even talk to you anymore. What’s worse is that because of a lost friendship, a certain friend dies to timberwolves without putting up a fight.” Older Twilight looked to her younger self and was surprised when she responded.

“It doesn’t matter, my daughter is important to me. I’m doing her a favor for hurting her so badly.” Younger Twilight pushed past her older self.

“First off, you can’t seriously believe that and secondly, you don’t win this time. If you do this, you will lose everything. You lose your friends, the trust of all of Equestria,” Young Twilight continued to walk until the last point was brought up. “You lose Star, she is dead and it’s because of your friends. Don’t you get it, YOU LOSE! It doesn’t help that everyone associated with you has been shunned so none of our friends got married. Applejack lost the Apple Farm and”

“Enough already! I get it ok, I get it.” Young and older Twilight looked to Star and saw that she was almost completely gone. “I won’t save her, she’ll be completely forgotten.” Young Twilight felt a hoof on her shoulder. When she looked up, she saw her older self shaking her head.

“You don’t forget her; you have the picture of you two right?” Young Twilight nodded. “Then you” Older Twilight vanished leaving behind a broken hearted Twilight and a bodiless Star.

“Mommy!” Star screamed as she disappeared completely. Twilight ran inside the library and looked around frantically for the picture. To her relief, she found it on the table with other pictures. She was just starting to forget, so fast she almost forgot her daughter but right there in her hooves, was her and Star. Luna came into the library with a happy smile on her face. “Well Princess Twilight, I’m so glad that everything turned out for the best tonight but it’s odd, I thought I knew how you were saved but I can’t seem to remember.”

Twilight looked up from the picture and smiled with teary eyes. “Princess Luna, could you do something for me?” Luna nodded. “Could you make a star for me?” Twilight asked as the picture began to vanish.

“Princess Twilight, why in Equestria would you want a star?” Luna could make a star sure but she has never made one just for the sake of having one made more or less for somepony, though this did bring joy to her heart to hear that a pony wants something so much that came from her night.

“It’s for my daughter that I never had. It’s a long story I think, point is I don’t want to forget her and I’m starting to, please Princess Luna. I know it doesn’t make any sense but please, if not for that reason, could you do it for me, my sanity?” Twilight pleaded.

This really didn’t make sense but Luna could tell that Twilight was clearly bothered by something. If making a star would help Twilight find so much as comfort or at the very least keep her sanity in check, how could she say no? Luna knew too well what a pony’s sanity is capable of; she did become Nightmare Moon after all. Sure it was because of jealousy but she lost her sanity as well. Luna wouldn’t, couldn’t let that happen to Twilight and if making a star would help, she would make a star. “Alright Princess Twilight, where would you like this star?”

“Thank you so much, this means so much to me but if it’s not too much to ask, could you make this star shine brighter then the others so that I may look at it every night without the need to search to hard for it?” Twilight asked.

“Of course.”

Thirteen years later

It was the thirteen year anniversary of losing Star but she was also given a star as well. Twilight had looked up every night at the sky and looked at the star that shone brighter than any other. “Mommy, are you looking at the star again?”

Twilight turned around with a big smile on her face. Truth be told, she felt a hole in her heart; she had felt it ever since Star disappeared. She wasn’t sure as to why but it felt that way. Still, her family with Comet Tail had filled that hole most of the way but there would always be a special place in her heart for Starry Night Sparkle. “Yes sweetie, let’s go to bed.” The young filly and her brother ran to their rooms after getting a hug and kiss from Twilight. She smiled and looked one more time up at the star that had been made just for her. “Goodnight my little star.” With that said, the star sparkled brightly.
