The Spell

In the early morning, Twilight, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Fluttershy decided to take part in refurbishing the Royal Pony Sisters' castle, something that they all believed had been long overdue. Tapestries had fallen, the walls were cracked, and the library was covered in probably five inches of dust. Everypony was cleaning, while Spike couldn't stop reading the most interesting comic (or so he thought it was) in all of Equestria. Last night, he had been tired of hearing Twilight annoy him, asking Spike what the plot was about. Pretty much, all she knew about it was that it was a comic book. And if Spike knew Twilight, she would soon go mad if he didn't tell her what the book was about, because it seemed to Spike that Twilight had to know every detail about every book in every library. So, he'd given up.

"Pleease Spike, tell me what it's about!!" begged Twilight.
"No, I wanna catch some z's Twilight, I didn't rest at all yesterday!" he said sleepily, burying himself under his blanket and pillow, and instantly beginning to snore, like most baby dragons did.
"Tell me or I'll keep this light on!" yelled Twilight, flipping the switch to turn on a lamp. "Tell me!"
Spike yawned and looked around for his comic book, which he saw Twilight was trying to get to with her alicorn magic. Spike dove for the book, hugging it tightly. He sighed and yawned again.
"If I tell you, will you let me sleep?" he asked. Twilight frantically nodded, and practically threw herself on Spike, trying to listen.
"If you insist," he said, flipping the comic book to a specific page, showing it to his purple friend, who asked,
"Who is that?"
Spike yawned.
"It's the Mane-iac, before she went loco. In fact, she was actually kind of beautiful, but I'm staying loyal to Rarity. So, anyways, the Mane-iac was an employee at a shampoo factory, and actually made a lot of money out of it. But then, there was this freak accident," he paused and flipped the page. "And she turned crazy!"
The comic book showed a pretty mare, walking on a small, fragile railing above some giant tubs of chemicals which would be implied into the shampoos later on. They were green and bubbling. On the next page, it showed the mare stumbling, and screaming, and falling into the giant wave of chemicals, probably dead.
"She's not dead," said Spike, flipping the page again. "She just went nutty,"
This time, the comic book showed the mare floating to the top of the tub of toxic waste, her eyes wide open, and pupils so small they were barely visible. Twilight noticed all her mane and tail was gone, replaced by something that looked suspiciously like algae, sprouting out instead. It was green and long, and kept growing without stopping, everywhere. Then, Twilight noticed something else.
"Her mane... walks?" asked Twilight, surprised. Spike just nodded, and closed the comic book.
"And then, there are these ponies. They're actually known as the Power Ponies, and their sidekick Humdrum," he said the sidekick's name with such disgust that Twilight didn't even want to know why. "And they try and stop the Mane-iac with their powers. They're really cool," Spike concluded. "So now, let me sleep in peace!" he said, rolling over and tossing the comic book aside.

Now, while everypony was cleaning, Spike decided he wanted to help too. Sure, his comic book was interesting, but he wanted some time to hang out with his best friends too.
"Fluttershy, is there anything I could help with?" he asked.
"I don't think so. I only have to finish dusting these shelves, and I can handle it myself Spike. But I'm ever so grateful for you asking. Maybe Twilight needs your help?" she asked, a bird hovering above her.
"Twilight, need a hoof?"
"Oh, sorry Spike. I wasn't planning on doing anything I needed any help with. Why don't you go ahead and finish your comic book? Don't you want to find out what happens to the Power Ponies and the Crazy-ac?" she said in a cheerful tone.
"It's Mane-iac," he muttered under his breath. He jogged over to Pinkie Pie, the completely pink mare, who was on a giant ladder.
"Pinkie, need assistance?"
"Nopie dokie lokie!" she said, throwing a book down at Spike, hitting him in the head. She kept muttering random things to herself, and Spike wondered what was going on in that mare's head.
"You okay, Applejack?" he asked as she walked around as if she was looking for something.
"Oh, Spike? Uh, nope. Ah was just lookin' for a vase ter bring Apple Bloom. She's too scared to cum 'ere 'erself, so she wants me ter do it," said Applejack, still looking around the place.
"R-Ra-Rarity? Do you need help with anything?" he asked, feeling his heart begin to melt inside as the mare turned around to face him. Her eyes were so dazzling and blue...
"Spikey Wikey, I'm afraid that I am now an independent mare, and everything today I will be doing myself," she said sorrily.
"How come?" he asked, following her down a corridor.
"Well, some stallions seem to think needing my sister Sweetie Belle and you to help me means I am... what is the word? Lazy. So, here I am, trying to be independent. Is it working?" she asked. Spike just shrugged, looking for Rainbow Dash.
"There you are, Rainbow! Need help with what you're doing?" he asked the cyan mare. But she shook her head furiously at Spike.
"No. I'm just trying to pull a little prank up on Applejack," she said, trying to sneak towards Applejack. Rainbow Dash was doomed if Applejack saw her; doomed for trying to prank and scare her.

Sadly, Spike walked towards the library, into a secret chamber Twilight and him had found a few weeks ago. Spike decided to plop down of a chair and finish reading his comic once and for all.

"I might as well finish this comic book. Everyone's treating me like Humdrum, and I really wanna see how it ends," he said, flipping to the last page of the book. He was extremely close to being done.
The page seemed to end too quickly for Spike's taste. There was barely any conversation between the characters, and mostly, the pictures were of the Mane-iac. He was tired of seeing the Mane-iac's face on every single page.
"Already done. Wow, that ending did not surprise me. Wait, what's this?"
Spike was looking at the corner of the last page in the comic book, which had been left blank. He had seen something tiny in the corner of it, written in a black, messy, inky handwriting.
"What's it say?" he asked himself, searching around the room for a magnifying glass to be able to read what the small, hard-to-read text said.

Meanwhile, Twilight had decided it was time to go back to Ponyville, and they had done as much as they could, and it was quite enough, for herself and for her friends (especially Rarity, who wasn't very into the dusty, dirty icky stuff). She was about to leave, when she realized that Spike wasn't right behind her, like he usually always was, all the time. She then remembered that she had sent Spike away to read his comic.
"Spike, where are you?"asked Pinkie Pie, as she realized the same thing Twilight Sparkle had.
"Spikey? Wasn't he right behind us, girls?" asked Rarity, looking behind them, just to notice he wasn't there.
"Spike? Now, where are ya, ya little rascal?" called Applejack. And soon, the whole crowd was yelling Spike's name, as Spike, not hearing their calls, finally found a magnifying glass and had started to read the footnote.

"You can return to the place you started when the Mane-iac is defeated. Take a closer look to join the adventure in this book.." said Spike, reading each word with care, pronouncing each syllable with clarity. But suddenly, he felt a tingling sensation going through his body, and a bright, blue flash of light emerged from the comic book, engulfing Spike with the brilliant, dazzling light show. He screamed, and this time, his friends did hear him.

"SPIKE!" exclaimed Twilight, rushing to help her friend. She knew, since she had gone through a portal into the human world, that she, Spike, and portals did not combine well together, so she had to go through and help her purple, dragon friend.
"Spike!" cries Twilight.
"Ugh!" grunted Rainbow Dash, trying to pull Twilight out of the portal.
"Rgh!" grunted Applejack, pulling on Rainbow Dash's tail.
"Eee!" exclaimed Fluttershy, hanging on to Applejack's torso.
"Ahhh!" screamed Rarity, as she was sucked into the Power Ponies comic book.
"Whee!" cheered Pinkie Pie as she bounced in, after her friends.

In the early morning, Masked Matter-Horn, Fili-Second, Mistress Mare-velous, Zapp, Radiance, and Saddle Rager decided to take part in the annual Superheroes Convention, something they had all been looking forward to all year. All the superheroes showed up, and talked, danced, and engorged them selves with food until they couldn't even take another step without throwing up. Everypony was talking and having fun, while Humdrum couldn't stop reading the most interesting comic (or so he thought it was the most interesting) in all of Maretropolis. Last night, Masked Matter-Horn had kept bothering Humdrum about reading the comic he had been into. All she knew about it was that it wasn't a real story, and it was a comic book. And Humdrum knew Masked Matter-Horn well enough to know that she was soon going to read every single book in Maretropolis, and his comic was no exception. So he'd decided to tell her once and for all.

"Come ooooon, Humdrum!" pleaded Masked Matter-Horn.
"Not right now, Masked Matter-Horn! I really gotta chat some z's, and now is just not the time," he said sleepily, throwing his blankets over his face so Masked Matter-Horn would stop disturbing him.
"Tell me, or I'll shoot some ice at you and turn you into an ice statue!" said Masked Matter-Horn, determined.
Humdrum didn't like being and ice statue. It had happened once before, and he regretted it, so he decided to stop being a couch potato and he took the comic book out of a stack of clothes, which were dirty.
"Let's make a deal. If I tell you what the story is about, can I get some shut-eye?" he asked, and Masked Matter-Horn instantly shook her head, answering Humdrum's question.
Humdrum's eyes started to shut, but he flipped to a specific page and turned it so Masked Matter-Horn was looking at it straight in the face, and she asked,
"Who is that character?"
Humdrum yawned.
"It's Nightmare Moon. She used to be a beautiful princess of the night, but, nothing in comparison to Radiance. So, anyways, this princess of the night had a sister named Celestia, who shined brighter than her. Literally. She was the princess of the sun, and daytime. Everypony adored Celestia's day, but payed no attention to the night. So there was this freakish betrayal," he flipped the page quickly. "And she turned evil!"
The comic book showed two mares, one raising the moon and the other raising the sun. Then, it showed the princess of the night crying as she saw nopony was playing during her night like they did during her sister's day. And on the page next to that, it showed her... transforming... into something black and dark. It looked pretty much like certain death.
"She's still alive," said Humdrum. He flipped the page once more. "Just went a tad over the line of evil,"
The next page showed her transformation complete. The creature there did not look like the lovely princess of the night. It had fangs, dark eyes, bat-like wings, and a coat as dark and black as the night sky. As she saw this, Masked Matter-Horn realized something else too,
"So the princess of the night is no more?" she said, nearly in a whisper. Humdrum nodded, but then shrugged, closing the comic book.
"But, there are these ponies. The Elements of Harmony. They have the spirit of friendship inside of them, and can defeat evil that way. Pretty awesome, huh?"
But Masked Matter-Horn didn't understand. Why didn't they just use their powers? It was quicker than friendship, something that was weak and useless. She pushed the thought aside, and watched Humdrum begin to snore, fast asleep.

The convention was fun. But even though Humdrum extremely wanted to read his comic book, which was getting better by the minute, he also wanted to hang out and chill with his best friends.
"Saddle Rager, is there anything I could help with?" he asked.
"I don't think so. I only have to finish signing these posters to protect animals, and I can handle it myself Humdrum. But I'm ever so grateful for you asking. Maybe Masked Matter-Horn needs your help?" she asked, a poster in her yellow hooves.
"Masked Matter-Horn need a hoof?"
"Oh, sorry Humdrum. I wasn't planning on doing anything I needed any help with. Why don't you go ahead and finish your comic book? Don't you want to find out what happens to the Elements of Harmony and Nightmare Spoon?" she said in a cheerful tone.
"It's Nightmare Moon," he muttered under his breath. He jogged over to Fili-Second, the completely pink mare, who was eating donuts at the speed of light.
"Fili-Second, need assistance?"
"Nopie dokie lokie!" she said, throwing a donut down at Humdrum, hitting him in the head. She kept muttering random things to herself, and Humdrum wondered what was going on in that mare's head.
"You okay, Mistress Mare-velous?" he asked as she walked around as if she was looking for something.
"Oh, Humdrum? Uh, nope. Ah was just lookin' for a vase ter bring mah little sis. She's too shy and nervous to cum 'ere 'erself, and she's not a superhero, so she wants me ter do it," said Mistress Mare-velous, still looking around the place.
"R-Ra-Radiance? Do you need help with anything?" he asked, feeling his heart begin to melt inside as the mare turned around to face him. Her eyes were so dazzling and blue...
"Humy Drumy, I'm afraid that I am now an independent mare, and everything today I will be doing myself," she said sorrily.
"How come?" he asked, following her down a corridor.
"Well, some stallions seem to think needing my sister and you to help me means I am... what is the word? Lazy. So, here I am, trying to be independent. Is it working?" she asked. Humdrum just shrugged, looking for Zapp.
"There you are, Zapp! Need help with what you're doing?" he asked the cyan mare. But she shook her head furiously at Humdrum.
"No. I'm just trying to pull a little prank up on Mistress Mare-velous," she said, trying to sneak towards Mistress Mare-velous. Zapp was doomed if Mistress Mare-velous saw her; doomed for trying to prank and scare her.

Sadly, Humdrum walked towards the common room, into a secret chamber Masked Matter-Horn and him had found a few weeks ago. Humdrum decided to plop down of a chair and finish reading his comic once and for all.

"I might as well finish this comic book. Everyone's treating me like Spike, and I really wanna see how it ends," he said, flipping to the last page of the book. He was extremely close to being done.

"Already done. Wow, that ending did not surprise me. Wait, what's this?"
Humdrum was looking at the edge of the last page in the comic book, which had been left white, without any writing. He had seen something tiny in the corner of it, written in a black, messy, inky handwriting.
"What does it say?" he asked himself, searching around the room for a magnifying glass to be able to read what the tiny, hard-to-read text said.

Meanwhile, Masked Matter-Horn had decided it was time to go back to their dwelling, and they had had a good convention, and were ready for next year, and it was quite enough, for herself and for her friends (especially Saddle Rager, who was quite shy about these things). She was about to leave, when she realized that Humdrum wasn't right behind her, like he usually always was, all the time. She then remembered that she had sent Humdrum away to read his comic.
"Humdrum, where are you?" asked Fili-Second, as she realized the same thing Masked Matter-Horn had.
"Humy? Wasn't he right behind us, girls?" asked Radiance, looking behind, just to make sure he wasn't there.
"Humdrum? Now, where are ya, ya little rascal?" called Mistress Mare-velous. And soon, the whole crowd was yelling Humdrum's name, as Humdrum, not hearing their calls, finally found a magnifying glass and had started to read the footnote.

But suddenly, he felt a tingling sensation going through his body, and a bright, blue flash of light emerged from the comic book, engulfing him with the brilliant, dazzling light show. He yelped, and this time, his friends sure did hear him.

"HUMDRUM!" exclaimed Masked Matter-Horn, rushing to help her friend. "A portal!? How did that happen!?" she screamed, feeling the jaw-dropping sensation of being dragged into the portal.
"Humdrum!" cries Masked Matter-Horn, feeling hooves on her body.
"Ugh!" grunted Zapp, trying to pull Masked Matter-Horn out of the portal, feeling somepony biting her tail with their teeth.
"Rgh!" grunted Mistress Mare-velous, pulling on Zapp's tail as hard as she could, feeling a tug coming from her torso area.
"Eee!" exclaimed Saddle Rager, hanging on to Mistress Mare-velous's torso, feeling somepony trying to hug her so she wouldn't be sucked in.
"Ahhh!" screamed Radiance, as she was sucked into the Elements of Harmony comic book.
"Whee!" cheered Fili-Second as she sped into the comic book so fast, that nopony was even sure it had happened.
