//------------------------------// // 6 // Story: Organized Chaos // by oakleafninja //------------------------------// Being emotionally flustered was an understatement for what Twilight was feeling all night. After that kiss goodnight, her body was having a rather strange reaction. Her heart was beating faster than normal, the temperature in her cheeks was rising (she checked the medical book, twice in fact to make sure it wasn't the flu), and her wings kept popping up every time she thought about that kiss. Needless to say, the next day she stumbled into class with bags under her eyes. She really wish she had stopped at Marebucks to get a coffee at the very least, but nonetheless dragged herself to her back corner. She was very surprised to see someone already sitting there, hard at work. Sporting on a Canterlot University sweater was Discord. Twilight's jaw almost dropped, just because of the irony of someone so chaotic being so.. organized. She trotted up to him and peered at his work. Written on the paper were dizzying mathematical equations and algorithms. "Discord, what are you doing?" she asked with one eyebrow raised. Discord turned to look at her, tucking his pencil behind his ear as he did so. "I'm working on today's assignment," he said with a smile. "I transferred classes, and now we'll be in the same class all year! Won't that be great?" Twilight's heart skipped a beat. She would have to deal with him every single day? She thought tutoring was chaotic enough already, but having to deal with him in her class as well? She just sighed and sat down next to him, not even bothering to contemplate the logicalness in this situation. Discord looked at the bags under her eyes and his eyes softened slightly in concern. "Didn't get much sleep last night?" he asked. Twilight merely just glared at him and began to get out a sheet of paper and a pencil. "As a matter of fact, no, I didn't. I had other things on my mind," she humphed as she began to write on her paper. She didn't even notice when he snapped his fingers and a Marebucks coffee cup appeared until he it pushed it towards her. She looked up in surprise, a light smile appearing on her face before taking a sip of it. "What kind of things did you have on your mind, Twilight?" he asked. Raising an eyebrow, he continued a bit louder. "It doesn't have anything to do with our date last night, does it?" Twilight's cheeks bulged as she did a spit take of her coffee, causing the class to look back at the odd pair. Coughing and blushing immensely she shook her head. "O-of course not! Why would I be thinking about that?" she laughed nervously. "Pffff, you're just being silly I have no idea what you're even talking about hahahaa..." Her voice trailed off and she swallowed, not looking at him in the eye. Discord smiled and ruffled her mane slightly. "Twilight," he said softly, "Do you want to talk about this over lunch? Ponies are staring." Twilight's eyes widened in horror as she saw the class looking back at the two, some laughing and some whispering. Dropping her head and turning an even brighter red, she nodded sheepishly. -- They decided to eat out at the local hayburger restruant. Twilight sighed as she sat down. Discord brought the hayburgers to the table and looked at Twilight with a soft smile. "Twilight, that was your first date ever, wasn't it?" he questioned with a small smile. Twilight's face burned in shame as she averted her eyes. Discord let out a small chuckle. "I know you think I'm annoying and chaotic, but I personally had a very fun time hanging out with you, and I would like to do it again. Is that too much to ask?" he asked quietly. Twilight swallowed and opened her mouth to speak, but he placed a finger on her lips. "Celestia asked you to tutor me over the school year, and to become my friend. We could just be friends, if you would like. Or.." A rosy blush spluttered across his cheeks as he sheepishly rubbed his neck. "L-like I said before, last night was really fun, and to be honest, I wouldn't mind getting to know you more. I know you don't like how chaotic I am, but... doesn't every organized sentient on this planet need a little chaos to counter balance it?" He bit his lip and looked at her with a small, yet nervous grin. She looked into his eyes and for the first time that day, let out a small, worn out chuckle. Yes, he was chaotic, but dealing with him for an entire school year wouldn't be half as bad as she originally thought it would be. She would get an A in Professor Celestia's class, and maybe, just maybe... Maybe her organized life did need a bit of chaos in it. -- Professor Celestia was worn out by the end of the busy school year, and she was almost done with grading all her students. She had saved two in particular for last, and when she finally got to them, a broad smile spread across her face. Discord had gotten the second highest grade in the class, only to be topped by Twilight. Celestia let out a soft laugh. It looked like Twilight didn't need that extra effort to get an A after all. She heard laughter outside her office door, and her ears perked up a little when she heard familiar voices. Trotting over and opening up the door, she peered out to see Discord and Twilight talking and laughing down the hallway. Discord's paw was tussling her hair, and Twilight let out a smile before suddenly flying up a bit to kiss him on the cheek. Celestia smiled at the couple before closing the door to her office. Because even the most organized egghead, she mused, needs a bit of chaos in their lives. She smiled, before writing two A+ on the transcripts, and placing the transcripts into the pile. -- "In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order." -Carl Jung
