Falling For Her

by Lightning Bolt_1

Prologue-Perfection

As the last school bell rang, I walked out with my buddies. They were my brother, Soarin, and his filly-friend, Rainbow Dash. Behind us was my best friend, Thunderlane. As we walked, joking and occasionally shoving each other in mock fights, I began to hear nasty comments. I turned. Three fillies stood over another, taunting her. One, a shimmering gray unicorn with long blue hair and blue eyes. Her mark was a large tree with sparkles. The second, a snotty looking earth pony in tap shoes with green fur, green hair, and green eyes. Her cutie mark was two spotlights crossed over each other. The third was a white unicorn with black and pink hair, pink eyes, and a huge pink bow. My stomach boiled in anger. Rushing over, I glared down at them. "Leave her alone!" I shouted into the obvious leader's face. She looked stunned. "Lay off, ya little brat," I added for good measure.

"Who do you think you are, talking to ME like that?!? My daddy is the owner of the Furniture and Hardware Store, and I'M the richest pony at this school!" the brat snapped once she recovered.

"I THINK I'm Lightning Bolt, and I don't care who your daddy is. I've seen how you treat her in class. I'm in eighth grade just like you, and I can't stand to see you be so mean to her," I say, fuming. I glared at them and stamped my hoof, snorting quietly.

"Whatever," she said, walking away.

I turned my attention to the filly on the ground. She had covered her face with her hooves and was whimpering softly in fear. "Th-thank you," she whispered.

"No problem. What's your name?" I say, smiling down at her.

"Pl-Plum Rose," she quietly responded.

"Don't be shy, I'm not like them," I crouch down to look into her eyes, and see her smile slightly. "Hey, there's that smile," I joke, beaming.

Before the filly could open her mouth, someone was calling her name. "Plum Rose, come on!" I heard and looked up. The filly that had been right in front of me was now by a mare's side. My mouth dropped open. How had she moved that fast? Not even Rainbow was that quick, and Rainbow could beat me, Soarin, and Thunderlane! I watched in shock as she smiled and allowed herself to be lead away by her mother.

Rainbow walked over to me, prodding me in the ribs with her elbow. "Someone's got a crush!" she taunted.

"Not true!" I objected, but my cheeks grew red, giving me away.

"Lightning, don't sweat it! It's no biggie, just a filly-friend," Soarin chided.

"She's not my filly-friend," I mutter.

"You know you want her to be!" Thunderlane chanted, slapping a hoof on my shoulders.

"Cut it out guys," I cried with a smile.I knew they were right. Plum Rose was like a drop of teal sunshine that had fallen from the sky just for me. I couldn't wait for tomorrow.

The next day, it seemed way easier to get up and to school. I hoped to see Plum again. I wasn't disappointed. There she was, my little drop of joy, standing all alone. I walked over to her. "Hey," I said, suddenly shy.

"Hi," she said, smiling slightly.

"So, I was wondering, would you like to, maybe, hang out with me and my friends?" I asked, looking into her riveting purple eyes.

"O-oh, sure!" she answered.

"Great! Come on," I laughed happily, leading her over to my 'crowd'. "This is Thunderlane, Soarin, and Rainbow Dash. Soarin and I are twins, if you couldn't tell already," I introduce my friends.

"So Lightning, I see you brought over your new filly-friend!" Rainbow teased, making Plum Blush.

The bell rang all too soon, and school began for the day.

School's out for the summer, and I've been in a solid relationship with Plum for 5 months now. I'm on my way to her house now. She said something about needing to see me urgently. I quickly arrive at her house and knock on her door.

Plum swing it open, a huge smile on her face. "Come inside!" she orders.

Once inside, I turn to face her. "What's going on?" I asked, looking at the boxes piles everywhere in worry.

"I've been discovered!" she squealed, dancing on her toes.

"What do you mean?" I exclaimed, shocked and even more confused. "Are you moving?"

Plum visibly deflates. "Yes. I'm going to Applewood to become an actor." she said.

"What?" I shout, horrified. My little sundrop, moving? But how? Why? "When?" I voiced my biggest concern.

"Next week," came the glum answer.

"Does this mean-"

"Lightning, I don't want to tie you down in a long-distance relationship. I'm sorry," Plum said, looking away.

Tears form in my eyes. "I'll miss you," I manage to say.

"I'll miss you too," Plum cried.

A couple hours later, I left and trudged back home. Soarin instantly noticed my bad mood. "What's up bro?" he asked, frowning.

"Plum's moving. She said she didn't want to tie me down with a long-distance relationship. So she broke up with me," I answered, staring at the ground.

"Dude, that's harsh," Soarin drawled. I knew he genuinely felt bad for me. But it didn't help. That night, I cried myself to sleep.
