Harvesting With a Friend

Applejack walked towards her huge pumpkin patch near the edge of the Apple Family Barn, she was in a hurry, probably since she had to harvest most of her pumpkin in time for Nightmare Night, which was next week, so her family and friends could decorate pumpkins. Whistling a little tune to herself as she pulled a cart that was connected to her back as she opened the gate and began to pick the pumpkins that were near her. Putting them in the cart, she let out hoot and smiled. "Boy howdy, now that's what ah'm talkin' about!" She came to a complete halt as she now just noticed the reminder of the pumpkin she had to harvest for the celebration and sighed. "Gosh, I have a lot of work to do today, but I can't harvest this whole darn pumpkin patch in a day! Maybe Ah can get one of mah friends ta help!"

With that, Applejack abandoned her cart and ran off to the Carousel Boutique to get Rarity for help, she hoped that the little unicorn wouldn't be complaining about all the dirt and muck that was would have on her while harvesting.

Applejack stood at the main door of Rarity's shop and pushed the doorbell, the buzz ringing in the inside of the shop and the sound rang in Applejack's ears as she heard the door opened with a loud creak, revealing a white unicorn mare with a beautiful royal purple mane with a look of confusion on her face as she faced Applejack. "Why, hello Applejack, darling," she said, cheerfully. "What brings you here?"

"Howdy, Rarity," Applejack replied. "Sorry ta bother ya, but I need some help on harvestin' mah punpkin patch at the farm for Nightmare Night next week, and I thought I would come and ask ya if you could help me."

Rarity kept staring at her friend, surprised. "Hold on a second," she said, lifting a hoof in the air. "You want me to harvest some pumpkin out on your muddy farm in time for Nightmare Night? As much as I would love to help, I'm afraid that I'll have to decline since I'm not exactly planning on getting my hooves dirty today."

With that, the orange mare covering her face with her right front leg, clearly annoyed and let out a sigh. Removing her arm, Applejack began to speak. "That's what I thought you would say when ah got here," she said. "Since you declined, how about we make a deal?"

"Go on, darling." Rarity said, slightly ashamed of herself.

"Well, how about you help me out harvestin' for about an hour or two and ah can help decorate the pumpkin for you and yer sister before Nightmare Night next week? That sound like a plan?"

"Sounds like a plan to me, darling," Rarity replied with a smile. "Just let me get my autumn scarf, it's freezing out here!"

Rarity was soon running up the stairs of her home before coming right back down with a bright pink designer scarf around her neck. She exited her home and closed the door, nodding to Applejack to lead the way.

Once Applejack and Rarity arrived at Sweet Apple Acres. the two mares began to walk towards the big pumpkin patch and the orange mare opened the gate and allowed Rarity to walk in first. Nodding for a 'thank you', Rarity entered cautiously with small steps, trying her best not to get dirt on her hooves and mane.

Handing the unicorn a pair of scissors, Applejack began to clip the stems and carefully put the pumpkins in the cart and watched Rarity, who was slowly trying to clip the stem of the pumpkins in the patch and the orange mare frowned and sighed, walking up to her friend. "Here let me show ya, Rarity."

Applejack began to demonstrate on how to harvest the pumpkins correctly and nodded, watching Rarity successfully clip the pumpkin and she let out a giggle. "Thank you, Applejack."

"Yer welcome, Rar." The mare replied, going back to her duty as she listened to Rarity clip the pumpkins and that was when she heard a familiar sound coming from the sky. When Applejack looked up, she saw two black crows coming towards them, hawking loudly. "Rarity! Look out!"

"Huh?" Rarity was confused when she looked at the direction her friend was looking and began to scream. "AHHHGGG!" She screamed. "It's a disgusting crow!"

That was when the two crows headed straight for Rarity and landed into her beautiful mane. Their talons began to tangle the strands, making the unicorn begin to scream once more and cry as she tried to get the birds out of her mane. "Ah got ya, Rarity!" Applejack exclaimed as she ran towards her friend and swatted her hooves at the crows, their beaks pecking at her legs before they flew away.

Now that the crows were gone, Rarity was a complete mess, covered in dirt and black feathers. "Oh, I look horrible do I?" the unicorn asked, whimpering before Applejack put an arm around Rarity's neck and smiled, chuckling.

"Ya do," she said. "But don't ya worry there, I'll get ya cleaned up! Besides, we got all the pumpkins we need fer Nightmare Night!"

Rarity smiled, but shuttered every time she looked down at her dirty coat and tangled mane, and with the help of her friend, Applejack took Rarity into the barn and let her use the bathtub and giving her a fresh glass of apple juice.

“Rarity!”

“Yes, Applejack?”

“Thank ya kindly for yer help. Ah really appreciate it,” Applejack tipped her stetson at Rarity, she winked her eye at her.

"It was no trouble at all, darling, well, despite the crows ruining my beautiful mane, of course. Now, I must get going, I have some work to do back at the boutique." Rarity walked out of the barn, leaving the barn door open as she waved Applejack goodbye and wandered through the orchard, the cool autumn breeze blowing her freshly groomed mane in the wind.

"See ya later, Rar!" Applejack yelled, waving back as she closed the barn door, leaving Rarity all alone in the farm as she trotted home, the rays of Celestia's sun giving her coat and mane a soft warm glow as she exited the orchard and took a deep breath, heading straight home.
