Chapter 33 - Arming up

"Sssh! Keep quiet!" said David

Both he, two pegasi, and Starlight moved towards the armor thought he corridors. Avoiding turned Guard patrols and everything, the storm betraying their position during lightning strikes.

"Never did I think I'll end up fighting my own combat brethren!" said a Pegasus

"Were you here when Discord was trying to take back the throne?" asked David

"No. I was still in training."

"Ended up fighting statues of Guards past, Guard effigies, and well, statues. Unicorns and the princesses did they best to shield the city, but Discord doesn't play by the rules." explained David

"What's all that mean?" asked Starlight

"I've been through stranger." said David, "Look, there it is!"
Just beyond them was the room where the Guard stored all their weaponry. Two Unicorn Guards stood before it. David held his hoof out to signal a halt as he moved in. He moved his left wing in various signals which were alien to Starlight but the Pegasus understood it all. He walked up to them as lightning flashed before him. The Guards didn't eye him or anything, just stood there.

"Name, rank, favorite Cereal!"

"Private, Steel- wait a second!"

"You encounter anypony else along this corridor guards?"

"Negative Sarge. Been quiet all night. Any particular reason?"

"Ah the castle is going under attack, the Guard is being turned into mind controlled zombies, all lead by dragons and some nut job diamond dog. You know, Discord has blessed the night."

"What do we do?"

"Open the door." said David before signaling with his wing.

The Pegasus and Starlight moved their hiding space as the Unicorns opened the door to the armory. As they walked in and started to grab weapons, Starlight walked up to David.

"Favorite Cereal?" she asked

"This potion makes them follow commands to the letter. You saw it with Spirit, he was there to make sure you didn't escape and nothing else. They would have said their favorite cereal and well, the other Pegasi would have attacked. Simple as that."

"Oh." said Starlight

"Pegasi, cannons. Unicorns, with me!" ordered David

The pegasi grabbed two cannons and tied rope around them to move them. David meanwhile moved to several large set's of heavy armor.

"Guards, meet the Draft Model Heavy Guard Armor. Covers all part of the body save for small slits in the eyes that can't be pierced by most blades. Used in heavy combat back in the day, and now reserved for when, well, times like this."

"Why don't we wear this all the time?" asked Starlight

"Are you kidding!?" asked a Unicorn Guard

"Standing in that armor in the sun all day! It's basically a oven!" said the other

"Also, Pegasi can't fly too well in it. So we use these lighter models." said David, "Less intimidating also."

"Oh." said Starlight

"Alright, gather around!" said David as he grabbed a map of the Palace and unfolded it on the floor, "As far as we know, most of the Guard is unaware of what's going on, and any who are are probably turned. Our objective is to get the cannons to Wild Khan's lab. He's making a antidote to cure the mind control along with Lieutenant Spirit and two other Guards. Anypony we encounter we are to shout halt. If they do not stop, we attack."

"Sir, what about the dragons?" asked a Pegasi

"Load the cannons with scale-piercing rounds. Their lives are of no concern to us, but the Guards are! I want non-lethal fighting styles but be alert! They want us dead but it's not vice-versa. That being said, there is also a pack of Diamond Dogs in the palace so Pegasi! Wing blades! We load the cannons and some extra armor on a cart to be pulled by the Unicorns! Starlight, your on point with the cart. the Pegasi and I will provide cover. We clear?"

"Sir yes sir!"

"I'm a Sergeant not a Officer. Let's try that again."

"Sarge....yes....Sergeant?" said the Guard

"Better. But for future reference, this is not the Royal Pony Marine Corps, just the Guard. It's "Yes Sarge!" Lets move!"

----

"Three drops of Pegasus feather!" said Khan

"Uh. What?" asked Crescent

"Just put three of your feathers in there!" said Khan

"Oh okay!"

"Doc, better speed things up! Some turned patrol is going to show up soon!" said Spirit

Spirit and Charger watched the door to the lab for any signs of movement. The slightest vibration of the windows from the storm caught their attention as they watched. The observatory itself was darkened save for a small fire lighting the antidote where Khan and Crescent worked on it.

"I'm sorry! But this takes time! It's chemistry! Not mathematics!"

"Technically you can't rush that either." said Crescent

"Not the time there buddy!" yelled Charger

"We got movement!" said Spirit

"Please tell me it's David and his team!" said Khan

"No, it's not! Douse the light!" said Charger

All went quiet as they patrol passed. Their zombie like stares gave way to their purpose of finding anything out of the ordinary and dealing with it accordingly. Fortunately, they failed to see the observatory doors opened ever so slightly and moved on.

"They gone?" asked Crescent

"Yeah, yeah I think so!" said Charger as he looked again

A mindless eye met him through the crack and Charger shut it instantly followed by Spirit helping him.

"No! No they're not gone!" yelled Charger

"Hurry it up with that!" yelled Spirit
