Chapter 29 - Unraveling

"Guard!" said Spirit, 'Good thing I found you!" said Spirit

Flower, Crescent, Charger, and Starlight stood before Spirit and Khan out of breath and looking at him wanting to make words, but unable to.

"Khan here said he saw a creature move through the palace! We need to get a alert out!"

"We (PANT) (PANT) know sir." said Charger out of breath

"Why are you all tired as, well, could be?" asked Khan

"David's dead." said Flower bluntly

"WHAT!?" said the two others in unison

"His desk is destroyed, papers tore up, and there was blood." said Crescent before gasping for air

"He's (PANT) nowhere to be found." said Starlight

"By Celestia no!" said Spirit

"May Luna grace his soul." said Khan

"Does the Captain know?" asked Spirit

"She's with Filly." said Starlight

"No, she didn't stumble upon the-" started Khan

The Guards reluctantly nodded their heads as Khan sat down to take it all in: "Well he went out like he always wanted to. Reading the paper if what you say is correct."

"We don't (PANT) know who did it," said Flower, "But if it's what Khan saw, it's them."

"He said it may have been a Griffon." Spirit explained

"A griffon!?" said a shocked Flower, "I thought we made peace with those guys!"

"So did I!" said Spirit, "Look, you search where you can! I'll alert Captain Armor about the situation! The death of one of own is not taken lightly! Keep on your guard, uh, Guards. David may have come off as a lazy slacker, but he was a expert fighter and wouldn't have gone down easily! Khan You up to find his killer?"

"You have no idea!" said Khan

"Alright, Charger, Crescent, no one can comb the palace like you can! Get all you can in the search and don't stop until even a mouse is stopped! Starlight, Flower, Khan, do the same but outside! Your magic should help you spot anything suspicious in the rain and Khan, you have the best eyes in the palace! Move!"

The Guards and the astrologer moved out fast. Spirit galloped for the door leading the Officers quarters and Captain Shining Armors private room. It was only a few hallways away and up a flight of stairs. Just as he was about to reach the staircase, the doors in front of him slammed shut and he saw a monstrous figure with bright yellow eyes blocking his path. He tired to turn around and head back when a similar figure blocked his path as well. Trapped he looked both ways and around trying to find escape when two odd figures and a larger one dropped before him.

"Stand down or you will give me no choice!" said Spirit

"Sorry, but we can't let you alert the whole palace!" said a raspy and sinister voice

"I'm warning you!" said Spirit

The three just laughed when one pulled out a glowing green orb. Spirit knew whatever it was couldn't be good. He kicked off the wall and charged forward, staring straight into the green glowing orb at full speed.

-----

Charger and Crescent kicked in a door, a thunderclap sounding right after it as they did. Two Pegasus Guards stood there and looked at them funny

"There's been a murder." said Charger

"Sgt. David!"

The Guards looked at each other in shock and then back at Charger and Crescent.

"How can we help?" one asked

"Search the castle for anypony who shouldn't be." said Crescent

"And alert any you can. Lieutenant Spirit is alerting Captain Armor as we speak. Who ever did this isn't going to get away easily."

The Pegasus guards nodded their heads and flew off to start the search. Charger and Crescent took off down another hall looking through lightning flashes for anything out of the ordinary. When one flashed, they saw a figure standing in the distance. The outline was definitely of a pony, but they couldn't exactly tell for the pony was in a already darkened area.

"Hey stop!" yelled Charger

A thunderclap boomed through the city and the pony burst open the door with a swift buck from the hind legs and headed through. The other two took off in the chase as the mysterious pony jumped through another set of doors.

"HALT!" yelled Charger as thunder struck again

"You know, if you would actually yell for him where there is no thunder, that pony would here us!"

Charger paid little attention to it and kept at it and saw the pony turn their head to face them before the figure galloped off even harder

"Oh they can here us!" said Charger

He gave it all his go and chased after his target as the door in front of him closed. He lowered his head and bashed it open, his ears ringing from the impact, but he recovered fast and looked around. It was dark and he couldn't see anything, but that pony couldn't have gotten far. Out of nowhere two pairs of legs bucked him right in the face and he fell over. Crescent came in next to see Charger on the ground and went to his friends side before being bucked in the head as well. As Crescent went down lightning flashed but he failed to see his assailant. As he blacked out he could have sworn he heard a voice say: "Oops."
