Speed of ‘What the Hay Just Happened?’

Waking up in my own bed was a nice feeling, and I wanted to stay in bed all day. Unfortunately for me, Iris had plans.

“OK, mister ‘I can survive being struck by Lightning’ Force, get your flank out of bed.”

“Iris, what are you doing? It’s Seven in the morning, on a Saturday. Last time you said you got up this early on a Saturday. it was to watch those old Pinkie Tunes shorts or Star Wings, and those haven’t play on TV for at least a decade.” This was a first for her, she told me she likes to sleep in on weekends.

“Because, YOU are going to start getting out more. I’m not gonna let you just stay in bed for the next three weeks. So get up, breakfast is ready.” She said, turning around to head back down stairs. I really wish she’d stop doing this.

I sneezed at a party last year, and she confined me to bed for two weeks. That was after the doctor gave me a clean bill of health. Iris always had a habit of going to extremes when something happens to somepony she cares about.

Take her ten year old nephew, Western ‘West’ Wind. He got a scrape on his elbow, she put him in a full-body cast.

Well, back to the story.

As I walked down to the kitchen, I knew what to expect. When cooking, Iris had tendency to cook what amounted to a few tons. Usually, she ate half of it and the rest was eaten throughout the day.

Imagine my surprise when the effects of the lightning bolt started kicking in.

“Lightning?” Iris asked, shocked at my appetite. “Did you just eat everything I cooked?”

I looked over to the table the food was on, and sure enough, there was no more food. To make matter worse, I was still hungry for some reason.

“Ok, this is weird. Iris, how about we just go out to eat for breakfast?” I tell her, hoping she doesn’t start asking questions.

I saw her eyes narrow, like she was about yell at me. To my surprise, instead of yelling, she held up a black ring case in her hoof. She then speaks, with a smirk on her face the just screams ‘gotcha’.

“Alright, and while we’re there will have a discussion about this. Is there anything you want to tell me?”

As I look at her, my eyes are wide from fear. She found it, and I can only say three words.

“Oh, buck me.”

The closest restaurant from our house.

I’m mainly just watching her eat, waiting for the inevitable question.

It finally comes.

“What is, or should I say ‘who’ is the ring for Lightning?” I practically hear the venom in her voice.

Truthfully, I was waiting for something before I gave her the ring. I had to say something to get her off the trail.

“It’s….for your birthday Iris.” She eyes the ring then looks back at me. I could tell this was going to hard. The ring was for her birthday, but it’s also an engagement ring.

Made of Platinum, and boy was it expensive. about Twenty-Five thousand bits.

What? I got the money from the remainder of my college fund. Don’t ask how much. Lets just say my Grandma was wealthy and really wanted me to have a good education.

“Really? This is...my...birthday present?” I could see the shock, the disbelief, and even the suspicions she had in her eyes.

If I told her what it really was for (or how much it cost), she’d probably would have a heart attack. Marriage is a big decision. It is for her birthday too, I just wanted to get her dads’ blessing first.

“Lightning, don’t you dare lie to me. WHAT is the ring for Lightning?” Before I could say anything more, we felt the earth beneath us rumble. And in that moment, time around me seemed to stop.

I didn’t have a clue what was happening at the time, but in that one moment it felt like only I could see what was about to happen.

As I turned to look out the window, I saw it. A foal of about three or four years, was in the path of a falling sign. Not only could no get him in time (and trust me on this, I saw a mare who was frozen ahead of five or six other that looked like she was heading towards him with panic and fear on her face. I found out afterwards that she was his mother), but his tail was caught under a heavy pot that fell on it.

I really can’t describe what happened next. I just RAN as fast as I could, somehow getting the heavy pot off him and get him out of there Just as time starts back up.

Next thing I know, the kid goes up the the mare I saw earlier. Everypony seem to be looking at me with shock, horror and awe. I saw Iris running out of the restaurant, but unlike the others, all I saw was a look of pure terror on her face.

As I looked down at my hooves, I understood why. My body was surrounded by lightning. It seemed to dissipate, and I thought I was in the clear.

Yeah,  I’ll never think that again.

Next thing I remember, was my world turning black.

Strange isn’t it? When you know exactly where you are, even though you knew that you were somewhere else earlier.

Yeah, I knew I was back in the hospital.

Again.

But this time, there was something different about this experience. Like I wasn’t out that long.

As I tried to open my eyes, I heard two distinctly female voices. Both had a regal tone, yet sounded very different than you would expect royalty to sound.

First, one of them just sounded cold. Like her voice was stripped of all emotions. Oddly, it sounded a little robotic to me.

The other was much more emotional, and less monotonous. This second voice just sounded softer.

It is the first voice I hear speak clearly.

“Miss Iris, I do understand the concern for your coltfriend. I really do, though it may not seem that way. However, since he did exhibit the effects of “Velocity X” without any in his system, he is now a priority risk that must dealt with. I feel I must make sure I get the facts straight from him directly.” The voice spoke.

I try opening my eyes again, and this time I can make out a image of silver with some red and blue hovering above it and behind it. It takes a few minute as my eyes focus, and I can clearly see.

And I am floored by who I see. A large Silver Alicorn mare with a red/blue mane and tail. She is the source of the first voice. Her Cutie Mark was the sun, and inside the sun was a small red symbol. To those who've never seen it before, it could be mistaken for a flower or a maple leaf.

Yet I knew what it really was. An atom. A stylized atom at that.

Fear washed over me as I watched the mare turn towards me. Her eyes glowing with energy, and no expression on her face. I knew who the mare was: Celestia.

Looking at me, she spoke six words.

“Lightning Force, we need to talk.”

With those words, I swallow hard. Not knowing what she has planned for me.
