When The Wind Changes

A Lesson In Pegasus Anatomy

Discord was gliding through the air, he had missed the feeling of the wind going through his old wings but the feeling was much more intense with these new pegasi wings. He still couldn’t use his magic but he couldn’t care less at that moment. It wouldn’t be much longer until he could see the first buildings that was the town of Ponyville. He started to descend so he would land outside of the town and walk inside, careful not to start any commotion within the town. On the ground when he was walking towards the town he realised that him being an alicorn could bring attention to him.

Inside the town, he snuck past a few buildings while on the lookout for the Elements. Fortunately for him, he couldn’t see any of them. It didn’t take long until he arrived at a marketplace packed with a wide variety of stalls. But there was one in particular that he was focused on. A stall selling curtains and other fabrics. The pony handling the stall walked away for a while, probably to get more fabric to sell. Discord quietly sidled up to the stall and grabbed a curtain that was dark red in colour. He tucked it beneath his left wing and trotted off. Nopony had seen him.

Outside the town, he dropped the fabric on the ground and looked at it.

’‘What now?’’ He thought, staring at the fabric. He needed some kind of cloak to hide his wings but he couldn’t just walk up to that dressmaker Rarity and say ’‘Hello, nice to meet you. Listen I need you to make a cloak that will hide my wings and not raise suspicion amongst the townsponies.’’ That would be a stupid thing to do, especially when that Rarity is the Element of Generosity. He could possibly use a simple spell to alter the fabrics’ shape and size and mold it into a cloak. It wouldn’t take much energy, so he decided to give it a shot.

He pulled up the fabric off the ground and laid it across his back. He reached out with his magic, feeling every strand in the fabric. A small portion of his magic was sent into it and after a few minutes, it flashed and was now a modest cloak draped around him.

Satisfied with his work, he walked back into town but this time, he wasn’t sneaking around or hiding. While walking through the market, he showed some fake interest in some of the stalls instead of running straight to the Elements and exposing his cover. What happened next made him facehoof. His stomach rumbled, he hadn’t eaten anything after his escape and that was two whole days ago. He knew that he didn’t have any bits to buy food, so he had to use some techniques from when he was young.

He walked towards a teal unicorn mare with saddlebags. She wasn’t looking where she was going so she would be perfect for it. Discord walked into her, and as soon as she touched him he expanded his magic around him and her, he quickly scanned through her saddlebags and found her bag with bits. He grabbed five bits with his magic and teleported them into a small pocket on his cloak and cancelled his magic as soon as he felt the bits in his pocket. The mare had fallen onto her haunches. He reached a hoof to her and helped her stand up, it was the least he could do at that moment.

‘‘Sorry about that... I wasn’t really looking where I was going a-’’ Discord raised his hoof to her to get her to stop talking.

’‘Don’t mention it, no harm was done. I’m built out of some stern stuff so nothing happened to me.’’ A crooked smile embraced his features as he walked away. He had noticed that his voice wasn’t as deep as it was in his older form. It was probably because this body was younger than his old one. He walked past her and walked towards the food stalls, satisfied with the result of his harvest. ’‘Four thousand years and I still got it.’’ Discord thought to himself and chuckled.

On his way to buy food, he saw somepony he will never forget. He growled a little to himself when he saw her standing behind her apple stand. It was Applejack, that Element of Honesty. But apples... apples would be good. He walked up to the stall and Applejack spotted him. She smiled a little as he came closer, not knowing that the Spirit of Disharmony was coming straight for her.

’‘Howdy, what can Ah do fer ya today, sir?’’ Applejack said as she tipped her hat back. Discord had to fight back the urge to grab her and turn her to stone just at that very moment.

‘’Hello there, how much for three apples?’’ Discord asked, trying to hide his hate.

’‘Three apples is five bits, but Ah haven’t seen ya ‘round these parts before so ye can have th’ apples for four.’’ She said as she turned slightly and leaned towards the counter.

’‘How generous of you, then I’ll take those apples then.’’ He was almost a little surprised by the generosity of the orange mare.

Applejack reached for a few apples behind the counter, but the basket was empty. ’’Aw schucks...’’ She walked back to her cart and leaned forward while grabbing another basket. Discord nearly choked when she leaned forward and he was forced to experience a very embarassing part of the pegasi anatomy, wingboners. His wings shot open and a small blush spread across his face. He tried to force his wings down but it was easier said than done. To his horror, Applejack had the basket on her back and was about to turn around and walk to him. He tried desperately to think of something to do at that moment. But just before his horrors were confirmed, he was able to snap his wings down to his body just before Applejack turned around and walked to him again. He let out a deep sigh of relief and put on a stupid grin.

’’Ya must really like apples, don’cha?’’ Applejack chuckled as she looked at the stallion smiling while looking at the basket in relief.

‘You have no idea...’ Discord said as he composed himself and levitated four bits from his pocket and took the apples and levitated two to his pocket and one to eat on the go. He said his goodbyes and kept on walking. ’‘THAT was close...’’ He thought with his mouth full of apples. ’‘Damn this pegasus anatomy...’ He said under his breath as he continued walking through the town in a casual pace.

He reached what looked like some kind of gingerbread house. ’‘Sugarcube Corner’’ the sign said. ’‘Isn’t this where that Element of Laughter works? Oh well, one way to find out.’’ He started walking towards the strange building and ’bumped’ into another pony on the way.

’‘What could possibly go wrong with the Element of Laughter?’’ He thought as he opened the door.
