//------------------------------// // The First Chapter! // Story: Pacific Grimm // by Ross Grimm //------------------------------// "Twiley! Get up!! We're being deployed! Another big one too! Category 2! Codenamed: Sabertooth." Ross said tapping his wife's leg trying to wake her up. "Huh? What time is it, Ross?" She simply asked, sounding extremely tired. "One thirty!" He said, chipper as ever. This is what he lived for. This was his ambition. His wife just wanted to be with him. "Its a two Jaeger drop! We're teamed with Crimson River!" "Dash?" She said while putting a shirt on. They hadn't spoken in years! Twilight felt excitement mound up inside her. She shoved it down deep. Emotion doesn't mix well with the drift. "Yep! You ready?" He asked holding his hand out yet close to his chest, slightly cupped. Twilight responded by extending her hand as well. "As I'll ever be!" She shrugged and ran next to Ross down the hall and to where they are to be suited up. The armor was cold. Though needed, it always seemed uncomfortable for Ross. Twilight had no issues with it, something Ross learned from the drift. As it was bolted and screwed together, Ross felt an ounce of fear inside him rise up and gain size as he looked toward his wife. If she were to di- No! He broke that thought off rather quickly. The nervous enhancer was connected next. It hurt, of course. Twilight let out a small moan. Ross simply bit his lip. "Initiate the neural handshake." Celestia said calmly. "Neural handshake is a go!" A short female in a suit and bowtie said with a smile. Ross watched Twilight's memories flash before him. Her dreams. Her ambition. Her deepest desires. And he felt as though it were his fault she was stuck here. Defending these shorelines rather than cuddling with him like she wanted. But he pushed that deep. And a scream caught his attention. "Dreamscape?!" He panicked. He forgot it was just a memory. "Ross is fading!" The suit girl said in an urgent tone. She could see the drift fall apart. Ross was going through the worst of it. Twilight was falling in response. "Daddy! Help!" A teenager Ross recognized well screamed. Her face so full of fear. He reached out to help. "Dreamscape! Just hold on!" He shouted, further imprisoning himself in this memory. He watched his daughter get ripped apart by the teeth of a Kaiju. "NO!" He screamed. When he finally woke up from that mental prison the first thing he saw was Twilight's face. He couldn't quite make out the words she said, all he could do was watch her lips move. He was a little irritated he can't read lips. His hearing finally returned to him as he heard, "Get him to a damn medbay! His head could be mush right now!" That was Twiley alright... Always thinking the worst. "I'm fine," he replied, "She really did look a lot like you...." He smiled and felt a tear roll down his face. "We still need to get you help! He's unconsci- Ross!" She couldn't help but hug him. "What do you mea- oh... Yeah she did." She kinda died down a bit. But they cleared their heads and stood back up. "Start it back up, Bow tie girl!" Ross said through the com. "One: my name is Octavia! And two: No!" She sounded angry. "Octavia! Start it back up! They'll be fine!" Celestia shouted. "Right away, sir!" Octavia said nervously, "Reinitiating neural handshake!" Ross felt his wife's push into his again. This time it was more calm. There was less screaming and fear. Though there was still a hint of fear in Twilight's thought. Once it was all over, the two of them glanced at each other and moved simultaneously. Pulling the gargantuan robot's arms together in a prayer stance and the moved forward.
