//------------------------------// // Chapter 1 // Story: Dimensional Shifts // by Phxntxm //------------------------------// Today began like any other day, I woke up at the crack of dawn and got ready to head off to my dead end job for yet another day of slow paced work. I walked around my house at a snails pace, not wanting to actually do anything and feeling rather lazy. Eventually I found myself in the shower and leaned back against the wall letting the warm water running down my skin. I closed my eyes and cleared my mind, letting everything get washed away with the water. After a few minutes of standing there I washed myself off and got out, dried off, then walked over to the sink to brush my teeth, comb my hair, put my contacts in, and finish everything up to get ready for work. After I finished up in the bathroom I headed back to my bedroom to get dressed and I lay down on my bed as I had ten more minutes before I needed to leave for work. I turned my radio to listen to some music before I needed to leave. It was before 6 AM but I lived alone so I didn't need to worry about waking anyone else up. as I turned my radio on to listen to some music before I needed to leave. When the time came to finally leave I turned my radio off and got up with a sigh, not really dreading the day but just...bored. I walked out the door and locked everything up, double checking the door knob as usual because I was a pretty paranoid person. I got in my car and a new day of my boring life was started. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate my life or anything, but nothing ever happened. My job was just enough to get me by, I didn't really hang out with any friends, and all my free time was spent at home just doing whatever I felt like. I didn't even complain about my life because I knew it could be a lot worse than what it was, but that didn't stop me from getting so bored. I knew it was up to me to make changes but I was just too shy and too much of an introvert to do anything about it. So I went on and lived my life without complaint. After not too long I found myself at work and went in to clock on and walked behind the service counter to start another day of listening to people's complaints. After two years of being there I had heard it all, all the issues that people come up with is just amazing. Half the time I find it hard not to laugh at some of the people who come up, and the other half of the time I have to hold myself back from calling someone out for something stupid. Numerous times people have come up and stood in line just to get less than a dollar back because of a small mistake. Regardless it was simple to get through the work day and eventually I found my way back to my car to head home. On the way back I decided I was going to be a bit lazy and stopped by the closest fast food restaurant I could find for dinner that night. I walked in to order a couple burgers, some fries, and a drink and sat myself down at a corner table away from anyone else. A few minutes later my food arrived at my table and I began to chow down. I was content with how easy it was to get food anytime I needed it and how little effort I had to personally put forward to make the food. Cooking was far from my favorite thing to do and fast food was a very quick solution. As I finished I realized the thought was very lazy but I just didn't care really. No one was around to judge what I did with my life so I'd be as lazy as I wanted to be. I knew it wasn't the cheapest choice but I didn't care. I let out a little laugh as I got to my car and thought to myself, Why the hell am I even musing about this? I turned on the radio and let it drown out anymore thoughts I had, noticing quietly that music seemed to be my go to thing if I needed to clear my head. Or if I had nothing to think about and my mind wandered off to stupid things, I thought as I smirked. When I finally got back to my house I checked my mailbox to see if anything important showed up and shook my head when all that I found was three offers for credit cards, a bank statement, and I'd apparently won a free TV if I went down to the local car place! Only catch being I have to buy a car to get it. I threw them all in the garbage can as I walked up to my door and stuck my key in my door before freezing as it sounded like someone was inside. I listened closely while remaining perfectly still to see if I could hear anything more. When nothing else came I decided that I must have just been imagining things and opened the door the rest of the way. What I found inside proved that I wasn't imagining and my brain just froze. Standing no more than ten feet away from me was a purple colorful little pony with wide eyes as she stared at me silently. I recognized her as Twilight Sparkle from that My Little Pony show. That however didn't register in my mind at all as I felt completely frozen. Neither of us moved a muscle as if afraid that something would happen if one of us so much as blinked. I eventually took a step to the side and closed the door behind me, thinking that if this was really who I thought it was then I doubted she would harm me. As soon as the door closed it seemed to snap her out of her trance, she blinked before lowering her horn towards me and shouted out “Freeze!” Well damn there goes the idea that she wouldn't harm me, I did as she asked and found myself in another stare down challenge. I had so many questions running through my mind at once that I had no idea what to ask first. One of those questions being have I gone completely fucking insane, but I decided that one I'd keep to myself. Eventually the one that came out was, “What the hell are you doing in my house?” Twilight Sparkle blinked as I spoke and her head raised just a little bit, “I'll explain everything in a bit, but I'm going to be the one asking questions first.” Geeze when did she become so hostile, last I remembered she was supposed to be the Princess of Friendship or some crap. I'd never actually watched the show but I had a coworker who talked about it enough that I felt as if I knew almost as much as he did about it. “Okay,” I muttered out, not really knowing what else I was supposed to do. Being thrown into this situation did not really give me much of an idea of whether or not I was supposed to even do anything. I didn't know why she was here, or for that matter if she was even here and I haven't gone completely bonkers. “First of all, what species are you?” She asked, eying me dangerously. I blinked at that, I could have sworn I had heard mention of her traveling to the human world at some point during the show. At last my brain seemed to catch up to the situation at hand and I shook my head. Why the hell was I even considering this was a possibility, this was not happening right now and I had to be dreaming. There was no other explanation for this so I knew that had to what was happening. I took a step towards her and said, “Look I don't kno-” That was as far as I got as I felt something collide with the side of my head, and all I felt was pain as I fell to the floor. The last thought that went through my mind before I blacked out was, 'Well since I felt that this must not actually be a dream, damn.'
