The Void

In the Beginning

In the beginning, there was darkness. Then the light of a new universe appeared, blinding Void, the sole inhabitant of the Oblivion that surrounded the multiverse. Void circled the new universe, mentally scowling.
“Yet another universe of horrid Chaos. This one feels even more powerful than the rest of them.”
Void reached out a tendril of pure will to the newborn universe, and peered within. The creature found the creation of the ponies. They were able to access the natural power of their universe, unlike most other beings Void had encountered in its infinite life.
The horned ones were able to use their power more actively than others, manipulating matter and energy to their will. The winged ones were able to manipulate condensed masses of liquid as if they were solids. Void tried to think of what they were called, perhaps clouds? The third race was able to manipulate the solid matter around their hooves and the vegetative life. The fourth were more powerful the other three put together.
Void pored a small amount of its will into the outer part if the universe, trying to find when the outer boundary would decay away. The only ways Void could enter a universe were if the boundary had decayed enough or if there was a hole.
Void was surprised to find that the abilities the ponies had were actually feeding the barrier of the universe, making its life span infinite.
“No! I will not have this world infecting my beautiful Oblivion with its Chaos! But the only way to get in now would be to create a hole or remove the magic. Wait, that’s it!”
Void flowed through the Oblivion until it reached another universe. This one was darkening, as its boundary was almost entirely decayed. If Void had a mouth in its current form, it would have smiled as it began to enter the universe.
Void despised being in a body made of matter and energy instead of its true form of pure will. But the form was needed to interact with these chaotic creatures. Void traveled the universe until it found the world it was looking for and entered the atmosphere. As Void landed, its form changed once again.
Void’s final form was mostly concealed in a mass of shadows, but it was still somewhat visible. Within the shadows was a bipedal shape, with long horns coming from its head. The creature was tall, with long arms. Spread wings sprouted from its back.
About half a mile away a centaur-like creature and a winged, wolf, lion, humanoid creature watched a dark mass fall from the sky. Tirek stared at the mass, an orange orb forming between his horns.
“Is that the Void?” Scorpan asked, a hint of fear seeping into his voice.
Before Tirek could answer the mass turned towards the brothers and blurred towards them. When the mass stopped blurring, it was taller than Tirek, and the shadows around it were thinner.
“You are correct, Scorpan,” Void answered.
“Why are you here, World Eater?” Tirek asked.
“I am not here to devour your world, Tirek,” Void pronounced the name how it was originally pronounced, “I am here to cut you a deal to save it.”
Tirek’s magic died down, “What do you have in mind?”
“I want you to go to a different universe. If you can obtain the power of the beings that inhabit it, then your universe will survive.”
“How can we trust you?” Scorpan asked, “How do we know that you won’t devour our world as soon as we leave?”
“I haven’t yet. Trust me, I’m showing massive amounts of restraint.”
It took about an hour of deliberation to decide whether or not to accept Void’s offer, not that it noticed. Absolute existence does that to beings.
“We shall accept your offer,” Tirek answered.
Void granted the creatures the ability to travel to and from the other universe. Once they left Void went back to the other universe and prepared to observe.
“Yes, the Chaos shall be purged from my beautiful Oblivion. And once those idiots return to their universe, I shall devour their world before the boundary heals.”

Void finished watching the ponies lock Tirek away. Mentally it scowled once more.
How? How is this possible?
Void returned to Scorpan's universe. Once it entered, the shadows around it began to spread, destroying the universe as it moved towards Scorpan's planet.
Socrpan watched as the stars went out one by one. As Void touched down Scorpan ran over to Void and yelled, "Why are you doing this? You promised not to destroy this world!"
"I promised not to destroy your world while you weren't here. I am no longer bound by that promise. And now, I'm hungry."
Void extended a clawed hand and tendrils of shadow wrapped themselves around Scorpan. The darkness began to spread over Scorpan's body even as he struggled. Once the darkness fully encompassed him, his struggles stopped. Red energy began to pour from Scorpan's body into Void's as it squeezed. After a few moments, Scorpan was gone.
"Now it is time for desert," Void said aloud as it began to devour the world.
