//------------------------------// // Two // Story: Summer Job // by Metal Fight Maru //------------------------------// Twilight opened the door to her house, feeling older already. "I'm home!" She exclaimed to anyone and everyone. She didn't actually expect anyone to be home, since her parents were still working and her brother was probably... somewhere. But, she was wrong. Suddenly out of nowhere, her parents and brother came out. "Surprise!" They all shouted. Just then, Twilight noticed a card table with a polka-dot tablecloth, and her family members were all wearing party hats. "We wanted to throw you a "Good Job For Getting Into Ponyville University" party!" Shining Armor announced. Twilight looked at the banner hanging up over the door. "Happy Birthday, Charlotte!" it read. She looked skeptical. "Well, Bill's Banners don't do custom orders anymore, and this was the only banner left." Twilight Velvet confessed. Her father brushed back a lock of blue hair and said, "I hope you aren't upset about the banner, sweetie." She smiled. "Nope. It's fine. I'm just glad you threw a party for me!" Twilight said. And she was being honest. Suddenly, the front door burst open, and in rushed a blur of purple and green. The little boy came to a screeching halt in front of his family, nearly knocking over Twilight Velvet. "Spike!" She exclaimed. Spike, who was ten and still growing up, threw off his favorite purple jacket complete with floppy green spikes running from the hood down to the bottom of the jacket, and asked, out of breath, "Did ya get in, sis? Did ya?" He hopped from one foot to another, smiling and out of breath. "I haven't opened it yet! And I thought you were going to sleepover at Snips' house." Twilight said. Their mother replied for him, "I bet Spikey just wanted to be here to support his big sister." She practically swooned. Twilight Velvet smoothed down Spike's sweaty green hair, smiling. He beamed up at her, while Twilight and Shining Armor rolled their eyes. Their little brother caught sight of them and crossed his arms. Stomping his foot, he asked, all business, "Will you just open the letter already?" "Ok! Ok! I'm opening it guys! Alright. I'm opening the letter... I'm unfolding the paper..." "Would you cut it with the play-by-play? Did you get accepted or not!?" Spike asked eagerly. "Um... dear miss Twilight Sparkle, we are pleased to inform you that- oh my gosh! Guys I got in!" "What? AAAAHHHH!!!" Everyone screamed excitedly. Twilight grabbed her little brothers' hands and they jumped up and down, grinning. This, Twilight thought. Is the perfect ending to a perfect day. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ One morning three months later, Twilight awoke with a grin. Today is the day! She thought. Twilight got out of bed and got dressed. She put on a white button-up blouse, purple vest and skirt, and black Mary Janes. She brushed her hair and grabbed the handle on her rolling suitcase, going downstairs. "Morning, sweetie." Twilight's father said, taking a sip from his coffee mug. Twilight grinned. "What's got you so smiley?" His father teased. "Daaaaaaaaaad." Twilight groaned. "I'm too old for that kind of stuff." "Oh, yeah. I forgot. You're an adult now." Her dad smacked his head. Just then, Twilight's mother came downstairs. "Oh, Twiley!" She said, enveloping her daughter in a hug. Twilight was confused. "Uh, mom? Only Shining Armour ever calls me that." Twilight stated. Her mother just smiled. Ah, whatever. One bagel and about a hundred hugs later, Twilight was in her brother's car, on her way to college. College! I can't believe I'm only an hour away from being totally, absolutely, independent. "Well, Twiley, we're here." Shining Armour said, shaking her. She must've fallen asleep. Twilight gout out of the car, hugged her brother, and she was off. College.
