//------------------------------// // Beginning: The Sweet Smell Of Success // Story: Summer Job // by Metal Fight Maru //------------------------------// Twilight Sparkle took one look in the mailbox and screamed. "Ah! It's here! It's here it's here it's here!!" She held her hands, balled into loose fists, up to her chin and jumped up and down with excitement. Just then, out came her mother, whose graying lavender hair was still rolled up in curlers, and her father, who was already in his suit and carrying a briefcase. "What is it, sweetie?" Twilight Velvet asked. She took off her fleece robe due to the early June heat, revealing a gray tank top dawning three purple stars, and purple pajama pants. "It's my college application, mom." She smiled widely at her parents. "Oh, is this the day we get to know if you made it in to Ponyville University or not?" Her father, Nightly, asked as he smoothed back his dark blue hair. Twilight regained her composure, smoothed down her skirt, cleared her throat and said in a rather business-like way, "Why, yes, it is. But I'm not opening this letter until AFTER school. So don't ask until I get home, OK?" Her parents chuckled and looked at each other. "OK, Miss Sparkle" Her dad joked. Twilight rolled her eyes and walked inside, smiling. "So, Twiley," Twilight's older brother, Shining Armor began as he he poured cereal into a bowl. "You excited for your last day of high school? It's a pretty big day." Twilight nodded and smiled. Shining Armor had just finished his third year of college and was visiting Canterlot for the Summer. Twilight Sparkle took a good look at her brother, which she hadn't been able to do for a while. His dark blue/light blue hair was messy, which meant he hadn't showered or brushed his hair this morning. She smiled. Shining Armor saw her staring at him and said, "What?" He put up his hands defensively. Twilight laughed as she ate the last slice of her orange--her usual breakfast. "You didn't shower, did you?" She stared straight into his blue eyes and asked. He sighed. "How do you ALWAYS know?" She rolled her eyes. "Puh-lease. You're a grown man, your hair is obviously very greasy." Now Shining Armor rolled his eyes. Along with being a total bookworm, goody goody, perfectionist, and downright genius, she was also a bit of a mother hen. But, he could look past all that. It wasn't always that way, though. When Shining was younger, he used to be so jealous of his younger sisters smarts. But he's grown out of that now, because he was, in fact, a "mature adult". Watching his sister, he realized he was going to miss her even more now that he knew that when he came to visit, she wouldn't always be there.
