Mistaken Priorities

Story - Rewrite

Pinkie Pie looked about the bedroom she had shared with Twilight for the past three years.
Sadly she walked about it once more, running her hand along the wall, remembering the times spent in her love’s arms nights past.
Sighing she turned to the small desk in the bedroom before sitting down.

Slowly, she drew one of her trademark pink pads of paper towards her, looking up to the pen holder she withdrew a green crayon and started to write, tears slipping down her muzzle and off her face to drop and stain the paper as she held in her sobs.

She took the time to write this one last letter to Twilight slowly, she didn’t want to mess this up.
Spike came and stood next to her stool, draping an arm across her furred shoulders as she wrote. Saying nothing, yet being there for her. He had been a strength to lean on these past months, but she couldn’t take it anymore, she had to get away.

She signed her name at the bottom of the note and drew one of the matching pink envelopes, the ones that had copies of her cutie mark embossed into them.
More tears silently slipped from her blue eyes as she placed the envelope with the now sealed letter on what used to be her pillow, she nearly lost the courage to continue at that thought. Only knowing her friends were waiting kept her going.

She pulled out her travel box from under the bed and set it down on top of the fluffy mattress.
She turned to get her favourite pictures from the walls that she wanted to take with her, only to find the dragon-boy had beaten her to it. There in a small stack cradled in his claws were the photos.

She took them from him, packing them carefully with a few other odds and ends before looking about the room once more, catching her pink furred form in the full sized mirror.
Gently she ran her hands through the patches that she saw were slightly disheveled trying to smooth them down before giving it up as a lost cause.

She took the box slowly downstairs and put it with the other filled with all her party supplies that was by the door, turning to face the alicorn's back as she finally spoke to her love, the only mare to truly hold her heart.

Slowly she calmed her breathing, it wouldn’t do to worry Twilight as she left.
“Twilight, I’m leaving now.” She said, her heart breaking as she spoke.
“Hmm.” Was all the response she got from the purple pony who was lost in one more book, another book that had taken Pinkie Pie’s place in Twilight’s life. Yet, it had been more of a response than she expected anyway.

Her heart clenched at the thought she was truly leaving the library, never to return.
She looked about, burning the image into her mind, there was the couch she and Twilight spent their first night together, the rug in the middle was one that had provided hours of comfort as they both had lay there late at night, wrapped in each other’s arms as they shared their mutual love of fantasy fiction.

Everywhere she looked was a reminder of her time with Twilight.
She felt something wet strike her fur on her chest and realised she was crying silently once more. Lifting her hands she scrubbed at her face, trying to scour away the tear tracks that lay either side of her muzzle. She was the Party Pony, she shouldn’t be crying.

She felt a gentle nudge to her side and looked down to see a forlorn looking spike holding out a scroll to her, a scroll with the royal seal.
“You might want to give that a read when you’re alone.” The young drake told her. Nodding her understanding she took the scroll from him and put it in her travel box, a small part of her wondering why he’d passed it to her.

-Flashback-

Spike watched as Pinkie once more trudged upstairs alone, how long had it been since Twilight went up those stairs with the Pinkie? He’d watched her pink form blurring through the kitchen earlier in a last ditch effort.
She’d made a beautiful spread, the table was decorated with a candle stand in the middle, a single rose had stood in a vase at Twilight’s seat, he’d watched as she set the food out and then called for Twilight to come for dinner.

“Ten minutes!” Twilight had called back, he hoped that this time Twilight would come, but he knew her, knew that once she got lost in her research, that was it.
Ten minutes had gone by and Twilight hadn’t come, another twenty passed as the food got cold.
Pinkie had her face in her hands, elbows on the table as her shoulders shook.

Unable to take seeing this without doing something to help, he slipped out the room, shocked as he made his way to see twilight eating a sandwich as she read.
No, he knew what would happen now, Pinkie had told him tonight was the decider - if she couldn’t get to talk to Twilight this time, she would be leaving.

He sat down at his little desk and started to write two letters, hoping that in this he could at least help Pinkie. He knew he would have his claws full when Twilight finally realised Pinkie was gone.
He took one last forlorn look towards his sister in all but blood before he set quill to parchment.
Hurriedly writing he finished the letters and being sure to send them to the right ponies breathed his green flame over them.

-o.O.O.o-

Celestia was just heading to her chambers, her sister walking next to her, arms linked as they chatted about inconsequential details from their days when Spike’s Dragon-mail came racing towards them, pausing in the corridor long enough for the smoke to coalesce into a tightly rolled scroll, she was surprised when she spotted spike's personal seal on it, and not Twilight’s.

“Oh no.” she heard her sister whisper, eyes shining as she saw the scroll.
Quickly Celestia pulled Luna down the corridor and to her rooms.
“Swiftwind, see that we are not disturbed, Starshine, go and clear my sisters schedule for the night.” The solar diarch snapped out to her two guards. The one quickly saluting before he took off.

As soon as she closed the doors she turned to see Luna had sat on the couch by the fire, staring into the flames, her horn slightly lit, eyes glowing, Celestia realised that she would need to wait for her to return from the moon-paths. Going over to her little kitchenette she prepared two cups of strawberry tea, knowing this was her sisters favourite before coming back to the couch.

She sat next to Luna just as the midnight blue alicorn seemed to regain focus as she turned to Celestia to speak, a worried expression on her face.
“Sister, as you know, with the night as my domain, I am extremely sensitive to ponies emotions, and if I focus on a specific one I can read their emotions like you would a book. I fear that scroll pertains to something I have been feeling from our friend Pinkie Pie for a while - she has been a dark beacon these past months, a beacon of sorrow and despair. Tonight, tonight it is darker than ever.”

Celestia nodded before lifting the scroll and with some trepidation unfurled it to read the contents.

Princess Celestia & Luna,

I’m writing as I don’t know who else to turn too. I have sat by and watched these past few months as Twilight and Pinkie’s relationship has slowly deteriorated. It has now come to the point that Pinkie Pie is leaving Twilight.

I have also written Rarity and Rainbow, as they are the two mares who have been constantly helping keep Pinkie’s spirits up. I feel that, unfortunately Pinkie will need to get away from Ponyville for a while, if there is anything you can do to help, please do.

You know I would not ask this of you normally, but I am afraid I have no idea of where else to turn.

Spike

Celestia set down the scroll that she and Luna had read with a sigh. Turning to Luna she raised a questioning eyebrow, with a small nod to the corridor. Luna nodded, from her expression it seemed she was desperate to help.
“I shall order her room to be made ready sister, I shall also have them prepare the other bearers chambers, she may bring friends with her for support.” Luna said quietly, pushing off the couch, before walking over to the door.

Celestia closed her eyes and shook her head. She had hoped that learning about the magic of friendship would curb Twilight’s enthusiasm when she got into one of her projects, yet it seemed not. She grimaced as a thought passed through her mind, she had assigned a library as Twilight’s living space after all. She should have foreseen this.

Shaking her head once more to clear her thoughts she levitated two blank scrolls and a quill over before she started to write. She wrote the first scroll to Pinkie Pie, sitting back and reading it she nodded and passed it to her sister for her approval while she started to write the second scroll to spike.

Spike,

Do not read the second scroll, only pass it on to Pinkie Pie.
Tell her to read it once she has some time, we promise you we will help her.

Princess Celestia & Princess Luna

Luna passed back the first scroll with a nod before Celestia sealed them marking which one was for Spike before sending them off. She looked once more to her sister and they shared a look, they knew the next few days were going to be difficult.

-End Flashback

Pinkie looked up once more to Twilight, who was still bent over the desk, eyes locked to the text she was reading.
“Goodbye my Twi, I still love you.” She said quietly, hoping beyond hope that the words would register. Unfortunately Twilight didn’t even move her eyes from the text as she spoke.
“That’s nice.”

Pinkie felt her world crashing about her, she had to get out, couldn’t take it anymore. Her legs buckled as she sank to the floor, silent tears streaming from her blue eyes as her hands clamped against her muzzle. Spike went to the door opening it to reveal two other ponies stood there, Rainbow Dash and Rarity.

Rainbow stepped in, silently helping Pinkie to her feet, wrapping her blue arm about pink shoulders, guiding the distraught mare out the door, Rarity’s blue aura surrounded the two boxes that Spike indicated were Pinkie’s and gently levitated them out.

Pinkie lost her battle with her sobs and turned against Rainbow crying into her blue fur as the athlete gently held her. The pink party pony had no clue as to what she was going to do now. She couldn’t go back to Sugar Cube Corner, not after the Cake’s reaction to her coming out as a fillyfooler, but she had no place to go.

-o.O.O.o-

Rainbow held on to the shaking form of her friend, she had no idea as to what to do. She had never seen Pinkie like this, so lost in her tears, and she had no idea as what to do.
Fortunately she looked up in time to see Rarity beckoning her to follow down a small trail. From her flights over the town she realised this was the path that would lead around the outskirts of town to the back of the boutique.

Gently leading the Pinkie down the path she guided her steps so she wouldn’t stumble, as their footfalls rustled the leaves and twigs they sounded unnaturally loud on the deserted path, the only other sounds to be made out were Pinkie’s quiet whimpers and hiccoughs.

-o.O.O.o-

Rarity looked back as they got to the door of her boutique, disheartened that it had come to this. She had tried many times to warn Twilight about her actions. How she was neglecting her relationship, no longer putting the effort in to keep it going, how all her studies had overtaken Pinkie in their priority. Yet all those warnings came to no avail.

To be honest Rarity was surprised the relationship had lasted this long before Pinkie had finally decided she couldn’t stay any longer – even now though it was obvious, this decision was tearing Pinkie up, she hadn’t wanted to leave. But no pony, not even Pinkie – as constantly cheery as she was – could take being ignored or sidelined indefinitely, sooner or later they would either crack or leave.

She watched as Rainbow guided Pinkie inside, grateful once more to Spike for sending them the letter last night.

-Flashback-

Rarity rolled off her marefriend panting, earlier Rainbow had surprised her by tackling her to the bed and locking her lips with her own, the rest of the night had been lost to a haze of passion and excitement, but beneath it all was the constant love they felt for the other. Rarity could see it shining out of Rainbow’s magenta orbs every time their eyes met when they kissed before another wave of passion took her.

Looking to Rainbow Rarity smiled as she spoke.
“Well, I must say, that was a surprise, and oh so enjoyable.” She paused to get a couple of breaths. “What, may I ask, brought that on? Not that I’m complaining, as I am most certainly not.” Rainbow rolled to her side propping her head up with her hand, bringing the free one to caress Rarity’s cheek as she spoke, losing all trace of the tomboy as she spoke with complete honesty.

“I love you Rare, that’s all.” She said quietly, eyes looking down to the white unicorn as if she were a treasure. Hearing the tone in Rainbow's voice and also discerning the one fear the other mare would always have Rarity gently cupped the blue pegasus’ cheek with her own alabaster palm.
“Love, I’m not ever going to leave you, I am not one of those hussy’s who’ve toyed with your affections in the past. I love you.” She finished quietly, pulling Rainbow’s head down for a tender kiss.

Rainbow smiled as their kiss broke, settling in the bed next to her, spooning in to her as blue arms wrapped about her, leaving Rarity smiling.
It was to this gentle atmosphere that a slight green glow invaded, coalescing into a scroll.
“Oh my? I wonder what Spikey could feel was important enough to write us at this time of night?” Rarity said using her telekinesis to gently hold the scroll in front of her, positioned so Rainbow could read it over her shoulder.

Rainbow & Rarity,

It’s finally happened, I’m afraid Pinkie will be leaving the library in the morning. She tried once more to salvage their relationship last night and failed.

I will be having my claws full dealing with Twilight, so I am asking, will you please be outside the library in the morning to help Pinkie.

Spike.

Rarity heard her marefriend groan behind her before she spoke.
“Aw man, I was hopin’ that Pinkie would manage to sort it. I’m gonna be there tomorrow, you comin’?” Rainbow said quietly into Rarity’s ear.
The unicorn nodded setting the scroll on her nightstand.
“Of course I will darling. I like you, would never abandon a friend in need.” That decided she reached for the alarm clock and set it to wake her at seven the next morning to be sure that both she and Rainbow would be awake on time.

-End Flashback-

Pinkie allowed herself to be guided up the stairs to the spare room that had once been Sweetie Belles. Rainbow gently guided her to the bed where she collapsed numbly on the top of it, pulling Rainbow down to the bed as well, finally managing to speak around her cries.
“Why…Why c. c. c. can’t… Why doesn’t… she… l… love me?”

Rainbow pulled her into her arms, gently rocking her as she softly spoke.
“Hey, you know that’s not true Pinks, she does love you, you know she does.” Rainbow said, trying to help her sister in-all-but-blood.
“I’m tellin’ ya straight Pinks, she does love you, anypony could see that when she looked your way, she just didn’t realise what she was puttin’ you through.” Rainbow finished, her entire demeanor in total opposition to what pony’s would expect from her. Only Pinkie Pie and Rarity knew this gentle side of the prismatic pegasus.

“B… But I… I tried… to tell her… Rainbow I trieeed!” Pinkie wailed, tears falling to her fur as Rainbow's arm tightened as she supported Pinkie.
“Shh, I know Pinkie, I know.” Rainbow said quietly into Pinkie’s drooped ear, holding her as she rocked her.

Rarity stepped into the room, carefully perching on the edge of the bed, her tail to one side so it didn’t hit Pinkie, taking one of Pinkie’s hands in one of her own, she spoke.
“Pinkie darling, is there anything I can do for you?”
Slowly Pinkie nodded, before she spoke, almost whispering.

“Scroll…Travel box…” She didn’t need to say anymore as Rarity got up and retrieved the scroll from the indicated box before returning to settle near Pinkie and Rainbow.
“Would you like me to read it to you?” Rarity asked quietly to the upset mare, Pinkie just nodded.
Rarity unrolled the scroll and started to read.

Dear Pinkie Pie,

I received a message from Spike who was very concerned for you over your planned departure from the Golden Oaks Library.

I know this offer won’t help much, but if you feel that staying in Ponyville would be too much for you at this time, feel free to join myself and my sister here at Canterlot Castle, there will always be a room for you here my little pony.

We hope that you will feel comfortable accepting this invitation, should you decide to do so there will be a ticket waiting for you at Ponyville Train Station. Should you use this, I shall be informed instantly by Unicorn Messenger Spell and shall make sure either myself or my sister will be waiting for you at Canterlot Station.

Your friends
Princess Celestia & Princess Luna

Pinkie looked over to Rarity, her surprise showing in her innocent eyes. Rarity understood the surprise more than most ponies. Pinkie had been the pony to make most other ponies smile, but until Twilight had come to Ponyville all those years ago, she had just been that ‘ Pink Party Pony.’
The one who organised extravagant parties, but who’s only true friends at the time had been herself and Rainbow Dash.

For her to hear that the princesses of Equestria now considered her a friend would surprise her Rarity thought.
“I… I’ll go.” Pinkie said, sadness evident in her voice as she spoke, “W… would one of you c… come with me o…on the train?” She asked quietly, as her wide eyes usually full of laughter, not the sadness prevalent in them now pleaded with them.

“Sure thing Pinks.” Rainbow said quietly to her, a small reassuring smile on the blue pony’s face as she nodded. Rarity stood gracefully, turning to Pinkie as she spoke.
“Of course we will, I can close the shop for a few days. Now you go and get yourself cleaned up in the shower while I see about getting a nice cup of tea and dinner ready for us.” She finished, leaning forwards to gently squeeze Pinkie’s small hand.

-o.O.O.o-

Pinkie looked gratefully up to the blue pegasus who had held her steady through her emotional storm.
“Thanks Dashie, I’ll be down soon.” She said as Rainbow's magenta eyes met her blue. Rainbow nodded slightly before speaking.
“Alright, and just so that you know, I’ll be joining you on the train tomorrow, Spitfire owes me a favour or two so I can get the days off.” She finished, tightening her arms about Pinkie momentarily before letting her go and heading over to the window, looking back over her shoulder as she spoke.

“Just let Rarity know I’ve nipped to chat to Spitfire, okay?” Rainbow said, waiting for Pinkie’s nod before leaping out the window for the flight to the Wonder Bolts base.
Pinkie looked at the window Rainbow had departed from, wings snapping open, arms to her sides as she soared to the skies. Pinkie wished she could fly, fly far away from her depressive thoughts.

-o.O.O.o-

Rainbow soon had the Wonder Bolts base in sight, having flown at near her top speed, just shy of Sonic Rainbooming. She easily fell into the standard circling pattern that would bring her in for a safe landing while avoiding all the rookies, rookies like she used to be.
As soon as her feet touched the Perma-Cloud she headed straight indoors, marching to Spitfire’s office. She stopped outside to take a couple of breaths before knocking, from inside she heard the Captain’s voice calling out for her to enter.

Opening the door she walked in, going to stand at attention in front of Spitfire’s desk.
“Rainbow Dash? I thought you were off duty for another two days?” Spitfire said with a raised eyebrow.
“Correct Ma’am, but something has come up that requires I speak with you now.” Spitfire signalled towards one of the chairs, silently telling Rainbow to sit.

“Okay, speak freely, what’s this about?” Rainbow immediately relaxed before she spoke.
“It’s my sister, well she’s not my sister but I think of her like my little sister, Pinkie…” Rainbow went on to explain the situation, and that she wanted, no needed a few personal days.

She watched as Spitfire sat back in her chair when she finished, sunlight through the window shining off her golden fur, a serious expression on her face.
“Look, I don’t care what anypony else says, you think of her as family right?” Rainbow nodded. “That settles it, you got all the time you need.”
“Thanks Captain.” Rainbow said quietly, knowing she wouldn’t need to worry about work while she was helping Pinkie.

“You say she’s going to stay at Ponyville until tomorrow?” Spitfire asked suddenly.
“Err yeah why?” Rainbow asked curiously.
“Well, if the Princess is meeting her, I’m sure they’ll need a few ponies to guard and pull their carriage. I think I’ll take a quick flight to Canterlot today and offer the Wonder Bolts help. Your friend is responsible for a lot of good cheer, it’s the least we can do here, and you don't come back for at least a week, you’re on paid leave - write if you need longer.” Rainbow smiled her first genuine smile since she’d seen Pinkie Pies collapsed form on the library floor earlier that day.

Standing up she saluted the Captain as she spoke.
“Thank you Captain, permission to be dismissed.” Spitfire nodded and Rainbow left, heading for the launch zone, and from there, home.

-o.O.O.o-

Twilight set her book down with a sigh before looking up to the clock, her eyes suddenly widening when she saw it was 10:30am! She’d pulled another all-nighter, she couldn’t believe it, at this rate she was sure to hit a breakthrough in her research soon, it was then she remembered the show Dr Whooves was hosting last night, the one broadcast from his lecture hall at Canterlot University.

“Dammit I told Pinkie I wanted to see that show last night!” She said with an exasperated sigh.
“PINKIE!” She called out to her marefriend hoping she hadn’t already gone to work.
No answer.
“Great” she sighed.

She stretched her arms as she thought of her plans for the day. It had been far, far too long since the girls had gotten together. Smiling for a minute she put a mental checklist together of things to do to organise a picnic.
“Maybe we should invite the princesses?” She thought out loud.

Standing she was careful not to catch her wings – she still had trouble years on with them and thanked her lucky stars she was friends with such a wonderful clothes designer as Rarity. The unicorn had managed to alter all Twilight’s clothes to account for the new appendages.

Shaking her head she looked about the library lower floor. Something wasn’t quite right – it didn’t quite feel right.
Shrugging her shoulders she went to head to bed, thinking to set her alarm so she could return to her studies on the sun based magic rituals that unicorns practiced millennia ago.
All her thoughts stopped as she got to the bedroom. There on the empty double bed, on Pinkie’s pillow was a single pink envelope.

Twilight looked about the room and was suddenly very concerned, pictures were missing from the walls, pictures of Pinkie’s family, some pictures of her and Pinkie.
Looking quickly to the open fronted wardrobe Twilight’s blood ran cold, all of Pinkie’s clothes were gone!

Whirling around she ran to the bed grabbing the envelope and tearing it open, pulling the letter that was written in. crayon, Just as Pinkie was wont to do.

My dear Twilight,

I am so, so sorry I have to write my goodbyes to you, but I need to. I can no longer take the hurt of staying within these walls.

I love you, but it seems that you no longer love me – Just three days ago I tried to talk to you. Tried to ask you out for a meal at that new restaurant you said you wanted to try, yet without even looking up from your book your answer was “Not now, I haven’t got time to go out.”

Do you know how much it hurts when the one who holds your heart says they have no time for you?

I came to bed that night and cried myself to sleep – only spike being there stopped me from leaving that night. He begged me to give it one more chance. He knew how much I love you.

Then yesterday, I cooked us a meal for two – your favourite, carrot and alfalfa soup with dandelion garnish. I called you for dinner and you said you’d olny be ten minutes.

Eventually I had to sit and watch the food go cold once again, and when I passed you on the way to bed, you had a sandwich levitated next to you. No wonder you weren’t hungry.
it feels to me that you love to get lost in your books, so much so that they have replaced me.

You only seem to leave your books now for sleep or some documentary.
I haven’t fallen asleep with you in my arms for months, never mind waking up to a cold bed every morning.

I’m sorry Twilight, I had to leave, I couldn’t take the pain any more, I’m going to find somewhere to stay tonight and early tomorrow I will be taking the earliest train away from Ponyville, it would be too painful staying here while I still love you but can’t be with you.

Goodbye my Twi,

I will always Love you
Pinkie Pie

-Flashback-

4 Years past.

“Pinkie!” Twilight called to the pink pony skipping through the park, running her pink hands through the long stemmed grass, poufy tail swishing side to side with every skip.

As Pinkie turned the light from the sun caught her just right, the sunlight glowed against her body beautifully, her white tank top dyed pink from the fur beneath it.

“Hiya Twi, what’s up?” Pinkie asked with a broad smile as Twilight drew close.
“Er heh, yeaah, can we sit down and talk?” Twilight asked, nervousness evident in her voice.
Pinkie just nodded and led them to a bench before taking a set, curling her legs underneath her.
“So whatsup?” She asked again.

Twilight sat next to her, looking straight into those beautiful blue eyes that had never known any sadness before she spoke.
“I. . .like . . .like you Pinkie.” Twilight murmured.
“Aww I like you too Twi, that’s why you're my friend.” Pinkie said with a big grin across her features, obviously missing what Twilight meant.
“No Pinkie, I like, like you, as in. . .” She took a deep breath before continuing. “would you go on a. . . date with me.”

Pinkie’s smile faded from her face before she finally answered, uncharacteristically quiet for her.
“I’m sorry Twi, but I . . .I can’t.” She said looking down to the floor.
“B . . .but why?” Twilight asked, heart breaking at being rejected by the one pony she’d come to care about more than a friend, Twilight was one of the ponies who had stood with Pinkie when she’d come out as a fillyfooler, so she knew Pinkie wouldn’t be disgusted with her for liking mares.

Pinkie’s blue eyes caught Twilight’s violet as she spoke, to Twilight it seemed a tumult of emotions were swirling in the cobalt gaze as Pinkie spoke.
“You’ll love me for a while Twi, but as time goes on, you’d forget about us, always be in research for something or other. An. . .and I won’t be able to take it, you’ll blank me out. I’d have to leave then, there’s no way I could stay if it failed with you, I couldn’t not when I lo-“ Pinkie stopped herself before she could finish, Twilight however had caught the slip.

“Pinkie, Pinkie look at me.” Twilight all but demanded taking her hand, continuing only when their eyes met.
“I promise you will NEVER come after my studies, books, research or anything.” Pinkie looked deep into Twilight’s eye, silently begging for what Twilight was saying to be true. When Twilight gave a small smile and a tiny nod Pinkie couldn’t help the smile that pulled across her muzzle as she whispered.
“Okay” She said, her smile big even by Pinkie’s standards. Twilight practically squealed with joy at this, startling Pinkie by pulling her into a passionate kiss, arms around her.

-End Flashback-

Twilight gasped out as her memories of that afternoon flew through her mind, she let out a wordless cry as her heart shattered at the though she had driven Pinkie Pie away, collapsing onto the bed, Pinkie’s side of the bed.
She pulled the Pillow to herself, the pillow still held the faint scent of cotton candy, sugar and something else that was distinctly Pinkie, curling up around it as she cried, loud heartrending wails.

-o.O.O.o-

Spike opened the door to the library at 11 with his key, not surprised it wasn’t open, he expected it after yesterday. Looking about his old home from when he was a youngling he sighed.
Making his way to the kitchen he prepared a stack of pancakes and a glass of milk for Twilight.

He could hear her cries from upstairs and knew she’d found the letter.
Sighing he stacked the tray with the supplies before he made his way up the stairs, dreading what he would find when he got there.
Opening the door he saw her. She was lay on the bed clutching Pinkie’s pillow while staring at one of the remaining photo’s of her and Pinkie together, smiling, happy.
She looked up at the noise Spike made coming in before her red rimmed eyes looked back to the photo.

“Come on Twi, it’s time you had something to eat.” Spike said quietly as he set the tray on the table by the bed.
“Why Spike, why didn’t she tell me!” Spike shook his head astonished at the question as he sat down on the bed, pulling Twilight into his arms. Yes it was her fault the relationship had ended, but he wasn’t heartless, but he still needed to tell her the truth.

“She tried Twi, really she did, I had to watch as every time I was here and she tried to talk to you, you brushed her off. She’s been trying for months Twi.” He finished as she fell into his side body shaking with the tears.
i:I should have known, should have done better!: Twilight screamed in her head as she cried into her assistant/friend/brother’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry, make it ok, please, I’m sorry. Spike what do I dooo!” Spike just held her as her storm of emotions struck once more.

As her cries echoed through the library spike's own eyes watered, he knew just how much Twilight loved Pinkie, it had been at his urging four years ago that she’d confessed her feelings to Pinkie.
“Come on Twi, let it out.” He whispered moving his draconic snout near her ear drooping down the side of her head.

-o.O.O.o-

Applejack’s head shot up at her cart that she kept outside the library on market day as she heard the faint wails while she and Applebloom were serving customers from their stall.
Applejack’s customer at the time happened to be Fluttershy, looking to the yellow furred mare opposite she said three words.
“It’s finally happened”
The young teen Applebloom just nodded.

Fluttershy with a sad expression just nodded, putting her choice of apples down as she nodded towards the door of the library, hinting to the farmpony that they should go see what they could do to help, turning to her sister Applejack asked spoke.
“Can you tend the stall fer a while, ahv a feelin’ Twi needs her friend’s about fer a bit.” Applebloom just nodded shooing her sister away to follow Fluttershy into the library.

-o.O.O.o-

Pinkie stepped on to the 06:30 to Canterlot with Rainbow and Rarity. She had hardly slept, alternating between crying and staring at the ceiling of the room while Rainbow and Rarity stayed with her, offering what little comfort they could.

The dawn had finally arrived and she’d listlessly showered and eaten. She hadn’t even unpacked her travel box last night thanks to Rarity giving her a set of clothes and sleepwear.
As the train pulled out the station she looked out the window to see Ponyville disappearing in the distance, another tear slipped down her face as her beloved town she’d come to call home left her sight, possibly for the last time.

She felt her pink hand being squeezed by Rainbow's blue one as a tissue courtesy of Rarity floated in front of her, gently drying her tears as they continued to fall.
“There now Pinkie, it’ll be ok, you’ll see.” Rarity tried to comfort her as Pinkie turned her head and sought the comforting arms of Rainbow once more as her emotions still wrought havoc with her heart.

Rainbow held on to her, one wing wrapping about her, a gesture known throughout Pegasi culture as one only done when comforting family or loved ones.
Pinkie tightened her grip on Rainbow’s top as her quiet cries were the only sound in the compartment, other passengers looking on in sympathy, and others with more than their share of concern, being residents of Ponyville themselves.

Thankfully they did try and give the Pink Pony a tiny bit of dignity refrained from asking.
Most from Ponyville knew of the open secret that her relationship with Princess Twilight was on the verge of falling apart, so they all knew what this meant – it had finally ended.

Pinkie managed to pull herself together a little when the beverage car came round and the steward spoke to Rarity.
“Ma’am, the gentlecolt car has stopped me and said anything that you three need on this journey in the way of refreshments should be billed to him. Pinkie looked up to see Rarity nodding her thanks to one of the Ponyville ponys.

Pinkie managed to mumble her own thanks as she turned once more to stare out the window.
The rising sun stained the sky a beautiful purple, the same purple as Twilight’s soft coat.
Drawing in a shaky breath Pinkie looked away from that to the floor, it had a rich pink carpet, the same shade as Twilight's mane highlight. . .

Pinkie could feel her eyes watering up again, this was going to be a long train journey.

-o.O.O.o-

Rarity looked on as Pinkie finally cried herself to sleep against Rainbow. She looked up to Rainbow's worry filled eyes.

“Darling love, try not to worry so. She will be ok with time.” Rainbow nodded back – surprised at the public endearment Rarity used to try help tone her worry down, the two didn’t hide their relationship per se, but they were very private about it.

“I know Rare, but still, she’s my little sis – you know, I know she ain’t really but. . .” Rarity nodded.
“I quite understand Rainbow dear. But you must try to hide how worried you are, for Pinkie’s sake – you know if she realises she’ll bottle her feelings which is just not healthy for her.”
Rainbow nodded, understanding flitting across her cyan features.

“Say Rare’s how long you stayin’?” Rainbow asked switching topics fast on the fashion centric mare.
“At least a few days, I wish to be sure she settles ok before I return to the boutique.” Rainbow nodded. Rarity was understandably curious as to the direction of questioning, so ventured forth a question of her own.

“Why do you ask?” She said.
“Well,” Rainbow started. “When I told the Captain why I needed the time off she told me not to come back for at least a week.” She said sheepishly. Rarity smiled as she looked out the window.
Spitfire, Captain of the Wonder Bolts, only flier better than Rainbow Dash in the team was also known for her stance on family.

Those you’re related to and those who you choose. She had been there once when a Drill Sergeant was berating a Private in the courtyard at Canterlot Castle for being repeatedly late on duty.

-Flashback-

“PRIVATE! WHAT TIME DO YOU CALL THIS?!” The drill sergeant called out as Rarity was leaving the castle after another measuring session for the princesses Gala dresses, causing her to jump.

She turned her head to see the Private mumble something to his superior before he was blasted back by the force of the Drill Sergeant.
“SO YOUR FOAL BROTHERS SICK! THAT’S NO EXCUSE!”

“Well I never!” Rarity exclaimed turning to go and give the sergeant a piece of her mind, storming right up to him and slapping the back of his head.
“How dare you sir! how would you feel if that was your foal brother! How would you feel if YOU were punished for caring.” The seargent went to open his mouth when Rarity’s voice shot up sharply in volume.
“I’m not finished!” She sent him a withering clare that had him cringing, although this may be due to her horn being lit up and the magical eddies flowing about her hands.
“You sir need to understand that before all else Family comes first, understood!”

unfortunately the seargent didn’t get chance to answer as a mare dropped out of the sky from where Rarity had spied Pegasi practicing.
Her feet slammed into the ground as she called out.
“SERGEANT! FRONT AND CENTRE!” The Sergeant jumped, span in the air and turned to see Captain Spitfire in front of him, even from how far away she was Rarity could see his red coat pale.

The dressing down he received that day became known to the Wonder Bolts as the‘Spitfire Special Sergeant Speech’
Within the space of 5 minutes she had him squirming, after seven he looked like he wished to flee, and after 10 when she commanded “DISMISSED” the dust trail he left was impressive.

-End Flashback-

“Indeed, I should think she would” Rarity said quietly as she looked on to the youngest member of their company with fondness.

Even now completely asleep the heartache Pinkie was feeling was obvious on her face, her mouth was still slightly turned down, mane lacklustre, not holding its usual ‘spring’, and her ears were permanently drooped.

They stayed like that until the train finally pulled into Canterlot at 10:30, looking out the window Rarity noticed with some surprise not just one but both the Princesses waiting.

-o.O.O.o-

Pinkie stepped off the train to suddenly be enveloped in a dark blue pair of arms, with a further alabaster arm wrapping about her shoulders.

“Oh Pinkie, I am so sorry this has happened to you and my student.” Princess Celestia said. The care in her voice and support she could feel through Luna’s embrace caused a fresh flood of painful emotions to hit her.
This may not be the love and care of a lover, but this paternal love she could feel still struck the rawness of her feelings causing her to lose her control once more.

It was only Princess Luna’s strength that kept her upright as her legs buckled underneath her when she couldn’t fight her tears.
She didn’t notice when a squad of guards surrounded her, cutting off the public's prying eyes.

“Come on my little pony, the castle doth await.” Luna’s gentle voice commanded as she half led half carried Pinkie to the royal chariot.

As she got herself under control Pinkie looked up to see Rainbow Dash getting into one of the body harnesses that pulled the carriage, it was then Pinkie noticed the other ‘Guards’ with them were the Wonder Bolts.
Rainbow looked back to them obviously checking she was okay. Pinkie nodded a little as she fought for control, she didn’t realise how much it would still hurt the next day.

Rarity looked to one of the unharnessed Wonder Bolts as the chariot took to the air and Pinkie managed to listen in even as she was looking to the golden floor.

“I must say, I am somewhat surprised to see your team pulling the carriage.” Rarity said.
“Are you kidding?” Spitfire’s voice came back and continued. “When RD told me what was going on there was no way we weren’t going to do what little we could to help. That lovely pink mare has brought more joy to the Wonder Bolts with her bubbly personality during the monthly parties she throws for us than any 5 stadiums full of fans – We consider her a friend, and we watch out for our friends.”

Pinkie couldn’t quite process what she’d heard – she had more friends than she realised, more ponies who actually cared about her? she managed to look up from where Luna had an arm about her keeping her safe on the carriage and smiled a small smile of thanks.

Spitfire caught it and just nodded her head as they started to descend to the castle courtyard.
Once they’d landed and stepped off the platform Spitfire approached her.
“Hey, I promise it’ll get better over time, trust me I know, and who knows.” She continued glancing to Soarin’

“You might still get a happy ending, but no matter what, if you need any of us all you gotta do is call.” She finished passing Pinkie a card that had hers, Soarin’s and Rainbow's office numbers on and the main message board should they be out.

“t...thanks” Pinkie managed to mumble out as Spitfire nodded once more and the Wonder Bolts minus Rainbow Dash took to the air, heading back to Cloudsdale as Luna and Celestia guided her to her room in the castle.

-o.O.O.o-

Luna looked down to the Pink pony she had a hold of, three times she’d felt her emotions flair since they entered the castle. Due to her role as Princess of The Night, she was more in tune with the emotional aura's everypony has than most. She gently tightened her arm about Pinkie, trying to give what support she could.

Pinkie may have been trying to put on a brave face since they landed, but every time they passed a window that detailed the Elements’ Exploits or a picture of Twilight a fresh wave of heartache would echo across the ethereal plane, it was harsh enough that Luna fought to keep the tears from her own eyes, nopony should have to know and understand this much pain.

As they got to Pinkie’s room Luna guided her to the couch before Celestia started to speak while Rainbow stood guard just inside the door. Kneeling down in front of Pinkie Celestia took one of her hands and started talking quietly to her, forcing eye contact with the strength of her presence alone.

“Pinkie Pie, this suite of rooms is yours for as long as you want, be that a day or decades, you will always have a home here, and ponies who care about you – myself and Luna’s quarters are just down the corridor should you need somepony to talk to – the guards will be instructed to let you in no matter the time.”

Pinkie couldn’t believe the kindness and care the rulers of Equestria were showing her.
They had dispensed with titles between the bearers and them in private years ago yes – but this, this was as if her family were supporting her, she had often in her mind elevated the princesses to surrogate mother status, but hadn't expected to ever feel like it was returned.

She couldn’t help when she started to cry small whimpering sobs again, she may not have Twilight anymore, but she did have ponies who cared for her.
As the emotions became too much for her she blindly reached forward and Celestia rose up to hold her in a motherly embrace as pinkie’s loud cries echoed through the room.

No pony who heard these cries could be unaffected, even the guard outside who poked his head inside to check what had happened had suspiciously watery eyes as once more Pinkie cried herself to sleep.

-o.O.O.o-

Celestia looked to the sleeping form she held, slightly surprised at how Pinkie Pie had not only let her comfort her, but had reached for her.
Looking to her sister she pointed towards the bedroom of the suite with her horn as she carefully lifted Pinkie up.

Rarity and Rainbow followed as they carried Pinkie to the bed, Celestia put her in the bed as Luna cast a light spell that surrounded Pinkie for a moment, Celestia, Rainbow and Rarity all looked at Luna.
“Just a little good dream spell, nothing more, I promise thee” Luna said quietly. Celestia nodded turning to see Rarity had brought Pinkie’s bag from the train along with three others – and was busy unpacking Pinkie’s things and a few extra’s out one of the other bags into the wardrobe.

Finally she levitated a single picture frame over to the bedside table, it contained a picture of three Ponies.
Pinkie Pie as a little filly, along with her parents.
Celestia thought About how Unfortunate for Pinkie Pie her parents had passed away a few years ago, while Pinkie could certainly use the support of her family now.

:We will just have to do our best to support her.: Celestia thought as she ran her fingers through the pink mane of the pony lay in the bed she was sat upon.

Hoping that they could do enough Celestia and Luna got up to leave, unfortunately they still had court to hold.
"Watch over her, she will need us in the coming days." Celestia said, her voice full of care.
"Of course, we could do no less for her, to is she is family." Rarity said as Rainbow nodded along with her.

"I ain't leavin' this room." Rainbow said emphatically as the two princesses left the room, only time would tell if Pinkie would recover from the heartache.

-o.O.O.o-

A week had gone by since Pinkie Pie’s departure and Twilight wasn’t faring well at all. Applejack, Fluttershy and Spike were visiting every day taking it in turns to make sure Twilight at least had something to eat and drink inn addition to keeping herself clean.

She hadn’t spoken since the day she had found Pinkie had left, her eyes sore from all the tears she’d cried as she stared at the same photo all the time.
They at least knew where Rarity and Rainbow were courtesy of Princess Celestia sending Spike a scroll letting them all know they had arrived at Canterlot safely, Applejack was glad that Pinkie had somepony looking out for her, as looking after Twilight in her depression was no easy task.

She stepped into the library after a long day at work surprised to see Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle and Applebloom in the main area working on the shelves.
Sweetie-Belle even being here was a shock as the last Applejack knew the young mare was off recording her second studio album. Ever since she’d got her big break – and her cutie mark – in singing, Sweetie spent a long time on the road, yet always returned to Ponyville.

“Oh hey Applejack.” Scootaloo said as she finished organising the shelf she was hovering in front of.
“Fluttershy said the library needed looking after and Spike could only do so much so we volunteered.” Applebloom told her as Sweetie Belle went to the pile of – what else – music books that needed sorting.
“And as I was paying Scoots a surprise visit I thought I’d tag along” Sweetie Belle said.

“Well ah thank ye girls – ah wasn’t lookin’ forward to tryin’ to sort this but you sorted it all. Thanks” Applejack said relieved that she could concentrate more on trying to get through to Twilight this afternoon.

Spike ran nearly smashing the door in his rush, a scroll in his claws, panicked expression across his features as he blurted out the message.
“Pinkie Pie's really ill and the Canterlot Doctors can’t stop what’s killing her!” He shouted not aware of how loud he was being.
“WHAT!” Twilight’s voice shouted from upstairs with a slightly quieter “Eep!” from Fluttershy echoing down before a purple blur landed on the floor in front of him, snatching the scroll from him.
Applejack watched as Twilight’s eyes scanned the parchment before she turned to Spike.

“Take a note.

Celestia,

I will be on the evening arrival along with the other two Element bearers and Spike.

Twilight

Send it.”

Twilight turned to Applejack and spoke loud enough for Fluttershy who was making her way down the steps to hear.
“Pinkie needs us all – especially me.” She finished collapsing to the floor in a flood of tears.
“what have I done” She whimpered out as Fluttershy came up next to her, picking her up off the floor, guiding her to the couch as Applejack closed the library door and flipped the sign to closed – it was going to be a long afternoon.

-o.O.O.o-

That morning the servant took away yet another cold, untouched plate of food from Pinkie Pie’s quarters.
The Pink Pony had stopped eating the second day into her stay, and only drank when her body compelled her too.

Rarity watched the tray being taken away as Pinkie stared out the window, clothes a little looser on Pinkie's frame than they were this time last week.
“Pinkie darling, please – you must eat.” She implored, as Rainbow stood staring out the window, face a mask – one that slipped off every night she was out of Pinkie's sight, then it was Up to Rarity as she held Rainbow through the night, yet no trace of Rainbow's outbursts of emotions could be seen while Pinkie was around. How she did it Rarity didn’t know, but she was glad.

“What’s the point.” Pinkie’s emotionless voice asked the room.
“If I eat I’ll get stronger, if I get stronger I’ll feel again.” She carried on in a monotone, her mane hung straight and the spark of life that used to be in her eyes was gone.
“Pinkie, I know it hurts, but you must eat, you need it to survive.” Pinkie nodded – but Rarity could tell it was a nod of acknowledgment nothing more. Standing up she went to the side and poured herself a glass of water.

She had her back turned as she drank therefore she only heard Rainbow's gasp when Pinkie passed out forwards.
Rarity turned as Rainbow called Pinkie’s name and caught her before she hit the floor.
“Oh no.” Rarity gasped as she ran to the bed pulling the covers back as Rainbow lay her down.

“Guard! GUARD!” Rarity called when they couldn’t wake Pinkie.
The door slammed open as the guard ran in looking about for the trouble, before turning his attention to Rarity once he’d ascertained there were no intruders.
“Quickly, get a Doctor!” Rarity shouted near hysterical as Rainbow came round and pulled her into her blue arms.

The Guard nodded and ran as fast as his legs could carry him, moments later a voice was heard over the castles loudspeakers.
“All physicians to the Bearer of Element Of Laughter's room” Moments later the guard returned escorting the team of doctors who went to work straight away with their diagnostic spells, while Rarity trembled with worry in her partners arms, worry overwhelming her every sense, she didn’t even notice the distinct Clicks of high heels striking the floor in a rapid beat before the two princesses ran in.

-o.O.O.o-

Celestia was once more tending court with the aid of her sister when a call out over the loudspeakers went out.
“All Physicians To The Element Of Laughter’s Room” Celestia looked to Luna as she got out her seat, unsurprised to see her seat already vacant as the midnight alicorn was rushing to the door.

“Well I never” The pony who was petitioning them at the time stated in a sneering, haughty tone, as if he had trod in something disgusting.
“Playing second fiddle to a commoner pony! Pony’s have no sense of class these days!” Those words stopped Celestia in her tracks for a moment before she and Luna turned and bore down upon the Pony.
“WE BEG THY PARDON!” Luna all but demanded in Royal Canterlot Voice. Celestia although every bit as angry as her sister, managed to moderate her voice – just, however she was unable to stop her magic gathering in her anger as her aura became a visible corona about her, just as Luna’s magic surrounded her in a moonlit halo.

“That ‘commoner’ is more noble than you could ever TRY to be – now get out of my sight Blueblood, and never come before me or my sister again. You are arrogant, rude, petty, vain, selfish and a shame to this court with your behaviour. I took you to task before with your attitude, but this is the last straw! BEGONE!” Celestia commanded before turning on her heel and striding rapidly from the room, Luna hot on her heels, neither seeing him flee nor caring that they’d effectively ruined the pompous pony’s social standing.

The moment they were in the private corridors they ran to Pinkie’s quarters.
As they entered they looked about to see Rarity trembling in Rainbow’s arms, both their faces filled with concern as the doctors did their scans, until the senior consultant turned to them.
“There is nothing we can do for her – she may never wake again. It is simply as if she has lost the will to continue on. I know not what we can do now for her aside from make her comfortable, she’s got about 12 hours.”
A short gasp was heard and Celestia looked over to see Rarity’s hand had shot up to cover her mouth as the implications settled in.

Rarity turned in Rainbow's embrace, shoulders shaking with suppressed sobs as the blue Pegasus looked out the window before she seemed to decide something.
“Get the others here, Pinkie would want her closest friends here.” Was all she said, yet it was enough, as Celestia’s horn lit up summoning parchment as Luna passed her a quill.

Spike,

We need you, Applejack and Twilight to come to Canterlot immediately. Pinkie Pie has been taken ill and the Doctors cannot cure her, they fear she may be dying.

We feel that she would want all her friends near at this time, yes maybe most importantly – even Twilight,

Celestia

Moments later the scroll disappeared in a puff of green flame.

-o.O.O.o-

Twilight started out the window of the express, her face totally blank as she relived the last few months in her mind. Every time she’d broken a promise of a day out, a night in, but most importantly, time with Pinkie.

She could only hope that she would be able to help when they got there, pray it wouldn’t be too late. she fought to keep her stoic mask on as she felt the tears well in her eyes, she would not break, would not be weak, she had to stay strong for Pinkie.

*Sob* Despite her best efforts her emotions started to boil over, as one tear, then another slid down her cheeks as she lifted her hands to cover her muzzle, lest her cries be heard by the others, she didn’t feel deserving of the comfort they offered.
Despite her efforts Fluttershy at least must have heard, as the next thing she was aware of was Fluttershy pulling her into a gentle embrace.

“It’s okay Twilight, you don’t have to be strong, we’re here.” Twilight felt another hand take hers as she looked up to see Applejack crouched in front of her.
“It’s alraght Twi.” The farmpony said quietly, her earnest, honest eyes shining with the belief of her words. With a wordless wail Twilight turned into Fluttershy’s offered embrace, clinging to her as she lost herself in a storm of emotions.

She didn’t know how long she cried, only knowing she managed to pull herself together at the stop before Canterlot, straightening up she let her magic flow as her Princess Regalia floated about her from its case above. Unlike Celestia’s or Luna’s hers was a suit of armour that fit her like a second glove.

The reason for this being the number of times she and the girls had been in life threatening situations defending Equestria.

She finished just as the train conductor announced that they would be arriving in Canterlot in less than five minutes.

The train pulled into Canterlot station barely stopping when Twilight flew out of the train wings spread speeding through the air to the castle, spike in her arms faster than she’d ever f36wn before.
To Applejack’s surprise Fluttershy took to the air as well and without warning had a strong grip about her and lifted her from the floor.
“Whoa Nelly!” Applejack called out as she realised just how high and fast they were going.

Applejack twisted her head up to look at Fluttershy and received the second shock of the evening as she saw no trace of the shy Pegasus she knew – instead was a mare with determination on her face, and somehow, even though she was only a Pegasus with a heavier load, she was keeping pace with Twilight, flying in her slipstream.

As they approached the castle thankfully the Guard recognised them on sight and opened the door ready for them, Fluttershy stayed with Twilight as they flew through the corridors at high speed, making tight twists and turns as if they weren’t even an obstacle, until they got to a room in the private wing that had Pinkie Pie’s cutie mark engraved upon it.
No sooner were they there and landed than they ran through the door.

-o.O.O.o-

Twilight ran through the receiving area and straight to the bedroom where she saw Pinkie Pie lying on the bed, looking underfed and wan. Her mane straight and eyes closed, breathing shallowly as if her body was fighting for every breath.

Rainbow was sat on the bed holding one of Pinkie’s hands while Rarity was stood behind her, offering what support she could, as the princesses were stood to the side, both looking up at Twilight’s intrusion.
Twilight let out a choked sob and stumbled her way across the room to the free side of the bed and collapsed near it, pulling Pinkie’s free hand into hers, tears rolling unashamedly down the Princess of Magic’s cheeks.

“Oh Pinkie. Oh no.” She muttered out between sobs as the others came closer.
Celestia moved around crouching down to talk to her student.
“Twilight, look at me.” The tone of command in her voice forced Twilight’s watery gaze to meet her mentors.
“Pinkie has lost the will to live, she feels there is nothing here for her anymore. Now you have a choice before you – you can try to bring her back, it’s proven that people in comas like hers still hear what’s happening, but if you do pull her back, be prepared for her to push you away, and if she doesn’t – you need to take better care of her than you have. No promises, just simple fact – I will not allow you or her to hurt the other like this again.”

Twilight nodded before she collapsed against Celestia her wails echoing through the room.
“I. . .I. . .I neeeed heer! I ca . . . can’t be without her!” She cried out, the sheer pain in her voice bringing the others to the edge of tears.

Twilight didn’t know what to feel anymore, her heart felt shattered, seeing Pinkie in the state she was in, knowing she was the cause of Pinkie’s despair pulled at her heart.
Turning away from Celestia, tears still streaming Twilight stumbled to the bed, pulling herself up next to Pinkie before she pulled her into her arms and held her close and tight.

“Pinkie please, come back. I don’t care if you hate me; I need you to come back. Please don’t go, come on please” She sobbed out begging for Pinkie to wake up, over and over again she spoke, pleading with all her heart but nothing happened, Pinkie Pie remained Comatose.
As time went on Pinkie’s breathing started to slow and the doctor who remained quietly shook his head.

“Pinkie NO! PLEASE!” Twilight called out Praying that somehow her voice would be heard, but Pinkie continued to deteriorate. Twilight her eyes unable to see properly anymore, leaned forwards, resting her forehead against Pinkie’s as Pinkie breathed out her last breath.
“Pinkie, I love you.” Twilight whispered quietly, placing her lips against Pinkie’s as her shoulders shook with the cries she was suppressing.

As she pulled away she looked down to her peaceful pace and cried out Pinkie’s name.
*GASP* Pinkie drew in a breath, then another, as stronger, more regular breaths came to her while Twilight cried in relief as the Doctor ran a quick diagnostic spell before whispering
“It’s a miracle”
“Tw-igh-light?” Pinkie’s voice broke the near silence of the room.

“Oh Pinkie, I’m sorry, I’m so so so sorry, Please, I love you, I need you” Twilight’s near hoarse voice gasped out as she looked down into Pinkie’s beautiful blue eyes, eyes she swore never to cause this much pain to ever again.
A pink hand came up to cup Twilight’s cheek.
“Love you too” Pinkie whispered before Twilight held her close in her arms.

Luna was having to be supported by Celestia as the emotions she was feeling in the room caused her own knees to buckle with the power of them, Rainbow finally let her own tears fall free in relief and joy as Rarity held her, it was very rare she lost her composure in public, but each time she did, Rarity was the only pony that she would let near her.

Fluttershy had a small serene smile on her face as her own emotions came to the fore, she leaned back into Applejack’s embrace as she lifted her hand to the one on her shoulder, linking her fingers with those there. Looking to the side she saw Applejack in a similar state, her free hand on spike's shoulder as he vainly tried to hide his happy tears.

“Pinkie, I’ve just nearly lost you, I need you. Please come back home with me – I need you.” Pinkie’s smile was all the answer any pony needed.

-o.O.O.o-

Two weeks later after Pinkie Pie had made a full recovery the whole group were headed back to Ponyville, Pinkie and Twilight hardly leaving the others side, the entire time.

As they got off the train in Ponyville the entire town had come to welcome Pinkie Pie back, she was surprised however when Twilight led her down a different path than the one that led to the library, until they stopped in front of a modest two story house and Twilight put a set of keys in Pinkie’s hand.
“Welcome home.” Twilight said looking her in the eye.
“If we stayed in the library again I could lose you” Was all she said, yet Pinkie understood the underlying message, Twilight no longer wanted to live somewhere where her obsessions could take hold again.

As they went in Pinkie looked around the new house until she had toured the whole place finally coming upon the kitchen, there on the table was the explanation of why Twilight was late to bed last night, she had been here yesterday before returning to Canterlot, there on the table was Twilight’s latest friendship report.

Dear Celestia,

Sometimes when you have something with you for so long you fail to fully appreciate what you have, and your priorities get mistaken.

These past weeks have taught me never to have Mistaken Priorities ever again, Research can be useful, beneficial and educational – all things I have come to love, but none of those are worth losing the one closest to my heart, not a book, not a spell, but…Pinkie Pie, I only hope to prove worthy of the second chance we have been given.

Your faithful student
Twilight Sparkle

Smiling Pinkie leaned up to place a tender kiss on Twilight’s lips, but Twilight surprised her by turning it passionate as she pulled her through the house and upstairs.

Pinkie fell in love all over again, She truly had her Twilight back.
