Chapter 30: Wendigo

TWO YEARS AGO:

Every five Winters, the Wendigoes appear, from the deep South and the icy North. This is the South's side of the story. Ponies don't usually see the Wendigoes in the Winter, as there is only one thing keeping the Wendigoes on their side of the South; The Badlands. The Changelings' side of the badlands to be exact, the coldest side of the Badlands, far and away from the hot temperatures of the Dragons' residence.

We see a young Changeling, about twenty-two, itching his bottom lip with one of his fangs and his bat-like wings covering him from the freezing Winter air that seeped through the doors of the small army base he was in, he was sitting beside the rest of his platoon, about fourteen other Changelings were crammed inside the base with him. The young Changeling can hear the screams and cries of others who are battling the wailing and demonic Wendigoes.

At this point, the General of the Platoon stepped forward,

"Arise men" The General commanded.

The fifteen arisen on the General's orders, the young Changeling unwrapped his wings from around him and tucked them back into place,

"Men, I need to tell you about the Wendigoes before we head to battle..." The General began, "...They're quick, calculating and will kill you brutally if you're not careful"

As the gruff-voiced General continued his information on the Wendigo, the young Changeling notices a shimmer of green light spark from the horn on the Changeling beside him, and that Changeling then pulled a large silver flask and drank from it. The young Changeling became curious as to what was inside it,

"Excuse me?" The Changeling asked the drinking one.
"Yeah?" The drinking Changeling questioned once he finished his gulp.
"What's in that?" He asked.
"Wine, I don't why I put it in there, I'm just drinking before I might die on the field" The drinker responded, "Know what I'm saying?"
"Yeah, I know what you mean, man" The other Changeling said.
"Want some?" The drinker offered.
"Sure, thanks" The Changeling replied as he himself took a gulp of wine, "It's good" He said after he took a sip.
"I got out of my girlfriend's wine collection, she's an Oenophile" The drinker told him, "She takes trips around Equestria whilst taking on another form"
"What's your girl's name?" The Changeling asked.
"Felina" The drinker said, "I'm fighting for her....well, not just her. For the rest of food and supplies stocked up at the Hive, not like Chrysalis is going to give them willy-nilly though"

The young Changeling chuckled slightly at the drinker's comment to the Queen,

"What about you, man?" The drinker asked, "Got anyone you're fighting for?"
The Changeling chuckled once more and shook his head, "Nah, man. No-one, this is the most eventful things that happened in my life so far. A friend of mine said if I'd join the army, then the Queen would give herself to the dudes who survive the battle"
The drinker laughed, "Jeez, I wish"

The young one and drinker then began to laugh with each for a while. Even as the General was still speaking, but grant it, all of the Changelings were speaking,

"You know what? You're alright, you got a name, pal?" The Changeling asked the drinker.
"Name's Masai. What's yours?" The drinker introduced himself as Masai.
"Huh, it's a long name" The young Changeling said.
"Go ahead man" Masai said.
"Ozymandias" The young Changeling introduced himself.
"That's a badass name, that" Masai told him.
"Thanks" Ozymandias smiled.
"Hey, Oz, do you mind if I call you that?" Masai asked.
"Everyone does, so go ahead" Ozymandias replied.
"If we make it out this battle alive, I'll buy you an ale" Masai told Oz.
"I'd like that. But hey, if we die tonight, at least I'm dying alongside a nice guy like you" Ozymandias said.
"That's goes the same for you, man" Masai replied.

PRESENT DAY:

Ozymandias was once again in the Diamond Dogs prison chambers, as that was still his bedroom. He was pondering to himself about his first encounter with Masai during the battle. Afterwards, he got to know more of the platoon, including the two Changelings he killed not long ago,

"Damn fools" Ozymandias muttered to himself, "They should've stayed out the way"
"Fuck sake, man. What happened to you?" A recognizable voice in the air spoke out.
"Truth, just come out, and cut it out with all the hiding and stuff" Ozymandias told him.

At this point, The Truth suddenly appeared beside Ozymandias on the stone slab of a bed,

"What happened between you and Masai?" The Truth asked.
"You know a lot, why don't you tell me?" Oz asked back.
"Because I want you to admit it" The Truth said.
"I'm not telling you" Ozymandias replied.
"You were reminiscing on the first time you met him" The Truth said.
"How do you know that?" Ozymandias asked in an annoyed tone.
"I can see it in your face" The Truth explained, "I've lived long enough to know that"

Ozymandias got up from the slab and paced himself from one end of the room to the another,

"You were close to Masai at a point, weren't you?" The Truth asked, "What happened?"
"Shut up, old man" Ozymandias told him.
"I've been close to many ponies and beings before and after I became who I am today" The Truth said.
"Yeah, like who?" Oz asked.
"I was once friends with many ponies, Luna and Celestia for example, even their parents. I was also close to Sombra and Chrysalis, but I haven't spoken to them in decades, they probably don't even remember me" The Truth told him.
"And I wouldn't blame them" Oz sarcastically said.
The Truth smirked, "There was a Wendigo I met once..."
"I hate Wendigoes" Ozymandias uttered.
"Let me finish" The Truth said, "I met this Wendigo, his name was Bjorn, and he was a good man gone bad, he became corrupted by jealously and paranoia, he became leader of his group of people. The other Wendigoes in his group adored him, but his power got to him, and voices in his head ordered him to kill his friends. As the years went on, Bjorn became even more madder than ever, it was then, he was the first of his people to be assassinated. And right there, as he laid there, I was beside him and he said to me, 'I wish I never killed them'. He regretted his actions towards his friends, and he only realized it when he was dying" The Truth finished.

Ozymandias looked at The Truth with a cold expression, Oz knew what he was talking about, but he wanted to make sure,

"What are you getting at, old man?" Ozymandias asked.
"You're going to die, that's inevitable. And when you do, Ozymandias, you will regret everything you've done. I've said this before to many beings and I'll say it again, life is better with friends. And people like you will only realize it when you draw your final breaths" The Truth explained.

The Truth nodded to Oz, whose cold expression dropped into a sad expression, as Ozymandias looked down, he heard a gust of wind and looked back up, Truth was gone. Oz seethed his teeth in a moping tone,

"The old man has no clue what he's talking about" He said to himself.
