Chapter 8: The Melody of a Farm

After the group left Sugarcube Corner, the ponies went to show Melody and Clover around the peaceful little town of Ponyville. "Ok, so where should we go first?" Twilight asked the group.

"Why not Sweet Apple Acres? I've always wanted to go to a farm, but the old caretakers would never take us, even if we were good," Melody said, giving them a sad smile.

"And mommy and daddy would never let me near dirt," Clover sadly said looking down in shame.

"Aww, don't worry sweethearts, we'll make sure your first visit to a farm is a good one," Applejack said, trying to reassure the two girls, who looked up with bright smiles.

"Ok Auntie Applejack, that would be nice," Melody said with a quiet tone, with Clover quietly nodding in agreement.

"Ok, lets go!" Pinkie said before hopping happily away to the farm, with her friends in tow, who just giggled at their friends giddiness.

After a while, they arrived at the farm, "Ok girls, here we are, Sweet Apple Acres, home to one of the largest bushels of apple orchards in Equestria," Applejack said showing them the main part of the farm, which had the main farmhouse, the barn, a pigpen, and some grape vines for when they make grape juice. The grapes made Clover curious.

"You grow grapes here too?" she asked sweetly.

"Eeyup, we grow a lot more than just apples here, would you like me to show you around?" Applejack asked her two nieces.

"Ok Auntie Applejack, we would love that, thank you," Melody said with a soft yet warm smile on her face.

"Why don't we go meet Granny Smith and Big Macintosh first? Ah can guarantee y'all will like them," Applejack said to the two small girls.

"Ok Auntie Applejack, that would be nice," Clover said with a smile, following the farm mare. After a little bit of walking, they soon see the old green earth mare on the front porch.

"Hey Granny, we have some company," Applejack said to her grandmother, who turned to see her granddaughter, accompanied by her friends, and the two new faces.

"Why howdy everypony, what brings y'all here?" Granny asked the group, and then she focused her attention to the two human girls standing with them. "D'aww, and who are these little cuties?" she asked looking at the small children, who were blushing at being called cute, but hid behind Pinkie, being the shy little girls they are.

"Now girls, there's no reason to be scared, Granny Smith is a nice pony," Pinkie said, which reassured them. Carefully walking out, the two girls stood in front of the old earth mare.

"Melody, Clover, this is Granny Smith, the head of the farm. Granny, these are Pinkies daughters, Melody and Clover," Applejack said introducing her grandmother and Nieces.

Walking up to get a closer look at the two, Granny smiled, "Why howdy there, you two don't have ta worry none, Ah won't hurt ya ever," Granny Smith said in a reassuring voice. This made the two girls smile that she wasn't going to hurt them.

"Hello Granny Smith," they both said in unison. Granny smiled warmly at the two. Just then, they all saw Big Macintosh walk out of the farmhouse. Melody and Clover soon walked back behind Pinkie.

"It's ok, Big Mac is a nice pony just like Granny Smith," Pinkie reassured her daughters, who gently poked their heads out from behind Pinkie. "Sorry Big Mac, they're really shy," Pinkie explained to Applejacks brother.

"No problem," Big Mac simply said with a smile.

Applejack and Applebloom rolled their eyes at the simplicity of their bothers speech. "Well girls, this is mah and Appleblooms brother, Big Macintosh. Big Mac, these two sweethearts are Clover and Melody, Pinkies daughters," Applejack said introducing the two girls and her brother to each other.

Smiling a kind and "I will never hurt you" type smile, Big Mac spoke up, "Why howdy there, there ain't no reason to be scared o' me. Like Applejack said, mah name is Big Macintosh, and it's a pleasure to meet both of ya," he said in a deep voice.

Looking up to see the kindness in his eyes, Melody and Clover both walked up, "Hello Big Macintosh, it's nice to meet you too," they said in unison. Everypony d'awwed at how cute they were, speaking in synch.

"Well, with all introductions out o' the way, why don't we start the tour of the farm in the orchard?" Applejack asked, smiling tenderly at her nieces.

"Ok Applejack, that would be nice," Melody said, with Clover nodding in agreement.

"Then lets go!" Applejack said, leading the group into the orchard.

Meanwhile with Celestia and Luna,

"Alright Luna, our mission is to inform Clovers original parents that she will be living with us, no longer royalty herself," Celestia explained to her lunar sister.

"I understand, now lets go," Luna said, lighting up her horn. Celestia copied Luna's action, and in a flash of light, they were gone. After teleporting once again to the human world, they looked up to see a gothic European castle before them. "We should probably use stealth for this mission, so we can bypass the guards," Luna suggested, only to be met with a shake of the head by Celestia.

"No Luna, we must let them know we are here to see them, but we should use stealth ONLY to get by the guards," Celestia informed her sister. With a nod from Luna, they began to sneak to the castle entrance. When they saw the entrance, they noticed a small band of six guards stationed outside the castle doors. "Luna, do you think you can put them to sleep?" Celestia asked her sister, who simply nodded, and with a flash of her horn, she was able to put the guards to sleep. "Good! Now we can make our way to the throne room." And with that, the two sisters began to walk into the castle.

After some walking, and putting the guards to sleep, the two sister found the throne room, and as luck would have it, both the king and queen were sitting on the throne. When the royal couple saw the alicorns, they gasped in surprise. "What is the meaning of this?!Where are the guards?!" the king demanded with fury.

"Calm yourself, we mean no harm. I am Celestia, princess of the sun and co-ruler of Equestria," Celestia said introducing herself, before turning towards her sister.

"And I am Luna, princess of the moon and co-ruler of Equestria," Luna said with a slight frown.

"Alright, lets not waste time, we're looking for our daughter, Clover Harver," the king said with a rude tone.

"I assure you, Clover is perfectly safe," Celestia said with a smug look.

"What do you mean? WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER?!" the queen demanded with a sneer.

"She now lives with us in Equestria, where she can be loved and comforted, something you two obviously could never do," Luna said with smugness in her voice.

"IN A FOREIGN LAND?! THIS MEANS WAR!" the king proclaimed.

"I'm afraid that Equestria is a parallel world from this one, it can't be accessed." Celestia explained. "And we have given her nothing but the love every child deserves. We even had a party to celebrate her adoption, along with her new sister, Melody Smith," Celestia informed them, which made the queen gasp.

"She didn't eat anything sweet, did she?" the queen demanded in anger.

"And she really will call a pair of commoners a sister and a mother?!" the king raged.

"She did, and she truly deserved something sweet," Luna snarled back.

"And she will, and has all the friends a child could ask for," Celestia answered the king, no longer having a sweet, motherly tone in her voice.

"Then, you can keep her! She has disgraced our family by indulging in something sweet, and daring to call commoners a family and friends!" the king said, just giving up on asking for his daughter.

"You can tell our ex-daughter that she is no longer part of our family, and that she can live out her days as a shameful commoner," the queen added on.

Celestia sadly shook her head in disappointment. "How can you say such awful things to your only daughter?" she asked, looking disappointingly at the royal couple.

"She is not our daughter anymore! We shall erase her name from the family tree, never to be heard of again," the queen snapped at the sisters.

"Now, GET OUT OF OUR SIGHT!" the king yelled at the sisters, who lit up their horns, and teleported out of the castle.

Back in Canterlot Castle, Luna looked up at her sister, "How can parents be so cruel to their one and only daughter?" she asked with tears stinging her eyes.

"I do not know, but Clover can now live happily in her new home, with her new family," Celestia said with a tender smile on her face, which reassured Luna.

Meanwhile back at Sweet Apple Acres,

"And this is the sanctuary where we keep the Vampire Fruit Bats," Applejack said, leading the group to where the Vampire Fruit Bat sanctuary was.

"How is a vampire fruit bat different from a regular fruit bat?" Melody asked curiously.

"Well, the seeds from the fruit they eat become more potent fruit trees," Fluttershy explained, as a couple of bats came and landed on her head, "They aren't as scary as they look. They're really sweet little creatures," Fluttershy said, lowering her head to give the two girls a good look at the bats.

"Aww, they are as cute as you said Auntie Fluttershy," Clover commented, brushing her finger slightly over the bats head. The bat she petted chittered at how good it felt being rubbed on its head.

"Aww, it looks like this one like being petted," Fluttershy said with a blushing squee.

"Well, lets get back to the main part of the farm and continue the tour there," Applejack said to the group, who followed the orange earth mare. After some walking, the group arrived at the main branch of the farm, "Ok girls, where would y'all like to go next?" Applejack asked the two sweethearts she calls her nieces.

Looking around, Melody saw a fence area, "What's that over there Auntie Applejack?" Melody asked farmer pony.

"That would be the pig pen," Applejack replied, leading her nieces over to the pen. "This is where all our pig like to roll around in the mud," Applejack explained, which made Clover raise her hand.

"Why do they like to roll in mud?" she asked innocently.

"It helps keep them cool, and also keeps bugs off o' them," Applejack explained.

"Is that right?" Melody asked surprised, to which Applejack nodded. "Wow! I thought it was because piggies liked to be all muddy," she commented with a giggle. Just then, they heard barking, and they turned to see a brown and white collie dog running towards them. "Aww, a puppy!" Melody said smiling with a blush.

"This is Winona, the family dog. She's really friendly once ya get ta know her," Applejack said, introducing her dog, who was sniffing the two girls curiously, but barked happily. "Aww, she likes ya both," Applejack said with a blush.

"I really like her too, Auntie Applejack," Melody said, with Clover nodding in agreement, who turned to see the barn.

"Auntie Applejack, what's that barn over there?" Clover asked, pointing at the red barn.

"That's the barn we use for storage." Applejack replied, leading them to the barn. "We use the barn to store apples for the winter," Applejack said, showing them inside the barn.

"Wow! Barns are a lot bigger than I thought!" Clover commented.

"Well, that pretty much wraps up the tour of the farm, so where should we go now?" Applejack asked her friends and nieces.

"Why not show them where I work?" Rarity asked, looking at the two sweet as candy girls. "If it's ok with you two?" she asked with a blush.

"Ok Auntie Rarity, that would be nice," Clover replied, with Melody nodding in agreement.

"Then lets go!" Rarity proclaimed, leading the group to the boutique.
