//------------------------------// // Chapter 2: Magical material. // Story: Quest of the cool pony // by Eder the cool kid //------------------------------// As they were inside, the doors closed as Twilight quickly looked back at Eder. “I had no idea that you were an alicorn until I saw it with my own eyes!” Eder chuckled as he spoke, “Yeah, surprising right?” Twilight Sparkle took a better look at Eder, feeling a strange sense of energy coming from him. “I feel something… different… about you. Let me check.” Twilight used her magic on Eder, examining the energy that he possessed. “The magic you harness is stable, so you must be normal.” Eder looked down with a bit of shame, “Well, not really. There was that other day I used my magic to shoot even though I didn’t want to.” “What kind of magic?” asked Spike. “It was like a ball… and I only use it when it’s necessary.” Eder explained. “A magic attack?!” said Twilight and Spike, looking at each other. Eder suddenly looked confused. Twilight was the only one that knew that kind of magic, so how could somepony like Eder know how to do it too? “Wow Eder, that’s impressive that you know how to do an attack like that.” Said Twilight, amused with what she heard from the red pony. Eder was still a bit confused and asked, “What you mean?” Twilight put what she said into more understandable words, “I mean, you’re an alicorn that isn’t very powerful, yet you know how to perform such an attack like that. That’s what’s impressive about it.” Suddenly, Spike had an idea and whispered it into Twilight’s ear. “Hey Twilight, why you don’t make Eder as your student and teach him the magic you learned from Princess Celestia?” Twilight nodded as she spoke to her companion, “Well, I guess I could teach him some things I know that she taught me. Having some experience with being taught this kind of magic, it would only make sense to be a teacher myself.” As the two came to their agreement, Twilight walked to Eder to tell him their idea, “Eder, me and my friend Spike have come with the decision that I should be a teacher to you.” Eder was surprised by what he heard from her. “What?” Twilight explained their plan to Eder, “I will teach you some of the skills of magic that Princess Celestia once taught me.” “Awesome! Perhaps I’ll learn some things I never knew before!” said Eder. He was happy to hear this from the alicorn princess. To start, Twilight gave him some bits and a list of materials. “Now the first and most important things you need are the materials. They’re all written down on this list. I would recommend looking to buy them at the shops in Ponyville.” She then turned to her dragon comanion. “Spike, I would like you to accompany Eder in looking for each one.” Spike gave Twilight a big thumbs up as he said, “Okay Twilight! You can count on me!” And so, Eder and Spike went to town square of Ponyville to purchase the materials for Twilights. As Eder and Spike walked through the town, all the ponies looked at the red alicorn with delight, still having conversations about him. “Wow, everypony seems to be talking a lot about you. You must be special.” Said Spike, complimenting the red unicorn. “Yeah, although I never thought this would happen in the first place.” Said Eder, thinking about where he was before arriving at Ponyville. “Well, it happened.” Said Spike as he pat Eder on the back. “Anyway, what’s the first item on the list?” The two checked the list and saw that the first thing to get was a notebook and some spell books. “You’ll need the notebook for all the lessons you’ve learned from Twilight, and the spell books will help you learn the many ways of magic.” Said Spike, explaining the different items. “There’s a shop right over there where you can buy the notebook.” Spike guided Eder to the bookstore to buy a notebook and some spell books. Meanwhile, a mysterious black unicorn stood within the shadows, looking upon Eder as he was walking to the shop with Spike. “That red alicorn, he seems so… nice… I need to keep an eye on him.” As the two walked into the shop, all the ponies were looking directly at Eder. “They’re still curious about me.” Said Eder, feeling a bit nervous about it. Suddenly a voice at the counter spoke to the red pony, “Ah, Eder the alicorn. It’s a pleasure to have you here.” It was Crescent Moon, who was an employee at the bookstore. “So… I guess everypony knows about Eder, huh?” said Spike to the attendant at the counter. “Yeah, everyone saw him and were talking about him.” Said a pony looking for a couple books. While they were talking, Scootaloo saw Eder and walked towards him, waving hello. “Hey there, I’m Scootaloo. “ “Well, nice to meet you all and you too, Scootaloo.” Said Eder, giving a smile to everyone in the room. Scootaloo came up to Eder with curiosity and said, “Hey don’t mind me asking, but I’m trying to get my cutie mark. Could you tell me what your cutie mark is?” Just from that moment, the red pony was a little nervous about showing off his cutie mark, thinking that they will laugh at Eder. But he toughened up and he showed it to the orange pegasi. “This is my cutie mark, the letter “E.”” Crescent, Scootaloo, and some of the other ponies saw Eder’s cutie mark, and they looked at each other in confusion; thinking that it was silly for an alicorn. “Is that…your special talent?” said one of the ponies; Coco. “I’m not trying to be mean or anything, but that cutie mark of yours looks silly.” Said Crescent Moon, trying to be nice to the red pony. After hearing these words, Spike decided to defend the red pony. “But hey, his mark couldn’t not only mean his name, it could mean another talent…like…” “Like what?” asked Scootaloo. Spike thought for a moment, then spoke his suggestion, “Umm… perhaps he can do… everything.” “Really? An alicorn like him can do everything?” asked Crescent Moon in disbelief. “Yeah, maybe that’s why it’s the letter “E”.” said Spike. “Well that seems like it would be a special talent.” Said Coco. Hearing about the words of Coco, Eder looked at the 3 ponies and said, “Do you think I’m… silly?” “No, you’re actually the opposite of that, you’re wonderful.” Said Scootaloo, trying to make him feel better. Eder felt better and smiled at the three ponies around him “So, what is it you’re looking for?” Crescent Moon asked Eder and Spike. Spike gave the list of materials to Crescent Moon. “We’re looking for a notebook and some spell books.” “That will cost you 25 bits total.” Said Crescent Moon, holding out his hoof. Eder took out the bits given to him from Twilight and paid for the first set of items they needed. Crescent Moon gave the two materials, giving off a smile to the red alicorn. “Thank you, and have a good day.” With curiosity flowing through his head, Eder opened one of the spell books and saw one called “Shield breaker,” and he began to read it as him and Spike walked out of the bookstore. “This one looks interesting, it says that I can break a target’s magic shield.” “Oh yeah, Twilight has a book like that when it comes to battling enemies.” Said Spike. Distracted by reading the book, Eder accidentally bumped into Rarity and they fell to the ground. “UGH!!! Don’t any of you ponies have manners and eyes to see where you’re-“ Rarity then realized that he had bumped into Eder, and felt sorry for yelling at him. Spike was blushing as he looked at Rarity. “Umm, S-sorry, R-Rarity, Eder was-“ “Oh my, I’m so sorry! I didn’t know it was you two!” said Rarity, gathering the books Eder had dropped. “It’s okay, Rarity, I was distracted from reading these book of spells. I’m trying to understand what I will be learning from Twilight.” Said Eder as he showed off the book he was reading. After their little accident, Spike helped the two ponies up on their hooves. “So, what brings you here?” asked Rarity. “Twilight sent me to buy these materials so I can learn everything from her.” Said Eder as he got all of his books together. Spike took out the note of materials and gave it to Rarity. His arm was shaking a bit. Rarity took a good long look at the list, “My goodness, that’s a lot of things.” “Yeah. Now that you think about it, Eder, don’t you think that those materials will be a little to heavy for you?” asked Spike, looking at him as the books start falling down again. “Wha? Nah, I’m good. Just gotta get a good grip, that’s all.” Said Eder as he dropped the books again. After hearing this, Rarity came up with an idea. “Follow me you two, I have the perfect solution to your problem!” So Eder and Spike followed Rarity to her house, wondering what she wished to do. Rarity walked to her shelf as she said to the red pony, “I’ll make a bag for you Eder, it’ll put all those materials in one place.” So Rarity began to make Eder a bag, moving place after place, finding the things she needed to make it. After a while, Rarity showed Eder the completed rucksack. “I hope you will put this to good use darling.” As Eder took a look at the bag Rarity made for him, Sweetie Belle; Rarity’s younger sister, saw Rarity with Eder & Spike. “Hiya sis!” Rarity looked to her sister. “Ah, hello Sweetie Belle! I don’t think you’ve met Eder yet, have you?” “No, but I saw him when he came into Ponyville. I heard he’s an alicorn too.” Said Sweetie Belle as she walked to the three. As the fine gentlepony he was, the red alicorn gave a kind greeting to the little filly unicorn. “Hello, little pony.” “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. red alicorn.” Said Sweetie Belle, giving Eder a smile. Spike tapped the red pony to get his attention, “Uh, Eder? We need get going.” Just before they were about to leave, they were stopped by the two unicorns. “Wait Eder, before you go…” Then, Rarity took out a strange looking cap. It was bright red and it had a capital “M” on the front of it. “I was inspired to make this hat one night when I looked upon the stars. I wasn’t quite sure why though, it just came to me. Anyway, I’d like you to have it. It’s no use to me, so why not for you?” “For me?” asked Eder as he looked at the two sisters. “Yeah! A gift of Generosity!” said Sweetie Belle with a big smile. Rarity gave the hat to Eder. “Go ahead, take it.” So Eder took the hat that the unicorn made, seeing how kind she was to offer it. “Thanks Rarity! I really like the way it looks! Now we just need to find a pencil to go with the notebook.” And so, the red alicorn and his dragon friend left Rarity’s home, as the two sisters said good bye to them. “Bye Eder! Bye Spike!”
