//------------------------------// // Once upon a time... // Story: Daughter of the Unicorn King // by GhostQuill //------------------------------// Once upon a time, there was a Princess. She was a beautiful Princess, her coat was like diamonds glittering in the Sun, and her eyes sparkled even in darkness. She was the envy of every mare, but beloved by all. For this Princess, was the Crystal Princess, and she ruled her Empire with a fair and kind hoof. Once upon a time, there was a King. He was the Unicorn King, with a dark coat and a tall stature that towered over most. Though he intimidated many he met, he was respected by his subjects and loved by his wife. Life couldn’t have been happier for him and his Queen, especially with a Princess of their own on the way. The Crystal Princess was adored by all her subjects, nopony thought any ill-will of her, for she was there for any of them, no matter who. But the Princess had a secret. The Unicorn King ruled his Kingdom as best he could so that their unborn child could live in a world the King and Queen would be proud to call their own. But tragedy befell them. Nopony knew, but the Princess had a selfish heart. She loved her subjects, but loved herself more. She treated them with fairness and kindness, only to hear the words of admiration they spouted out to her every day. Nopony could have known, but the Unicorn Queen did not survive the Princess’s birth. The loss devastated the Kingdom, everyone was left distraught. But none were more upset, or more heartbroken, than the King. She wanted nothing more, than to be worshiped. She put her ego above her Empire. He wanted nothing more, than his wife back. But, he put his Kingdom above his sorrow. ---------------------- The sad King cared for his Kingdom, but not as much as he cared for his dear daughter. Every day they spent time together, and every day the sorrow that had plagued him, turned to happiness. The young Princess’s name was Platinum, but she would always be the King’s Treasure, and she grew into a beautiful filly. Throughout the Kingdom, her beauty rivalled all and she was the envy of every mare… After the disaster of the Windegoes, the Unicorn King was now a part of a united nation of unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies. But as happy as each of the ponies were with being united, they still lacked the food and supplies to care for their subjects. Each of the Rulers decided that they would visit the other Empires and ask for supplies until their own could be grown and made for themselves. The Unicorn King was tasked with going to the Crystal Empire. The Crystal Empire had been strong even during the Windegoes’ storm, for they were protected by their love and the Crystal Heart. Upon the Unicorn King’s arrival, things were going well, the meetings were polite and the Princess was more than willing to help the struggling nation. He had brought his daughter Princess Platinum as well, and that is sadly where it all went downhill. Princess Platinum’s presence was one the Crystal Princess quickly realised, she did not want. A walk through the Empire with them revealed to her that she was not the centre of attention. All her subjects swooned over the younger Princess’s beauty and she was left in her shadow. The Crystal Princess’s ego and narcissism got the best of her and she decided to do something about this young Princess. She found a spell that could take someone’s beauty away, but she realised that using it would only make her subjects and the Unicorn King hate her for doing that to the young Princess. So she decided to alter the spell a bit. Instead of taking her beauty, she tried to change it so that it would take away all the love that her subjects had for the Princess. But when she used it, it didn’t work. Something went wrong because her mind was not clear and instead was filled with envy and hate. Instead of taking the love her subjects had for the Princess, it took Platinum’s soul and put her in the object that represented the Crystal Pony’s love; The Crystal Heart. All that was left was the empty body of Platinum which appeared dead, killed by the Princess. The Unicorn King was furious, he hated the Princess for killing his only daughter and family, her subjects couldn’t believe that their Princess would do such a thing, so she used that against the King. She stated that the King had tried to attack her so that he could take their Empire, but during the fight his daughter was hit, it was not her fault that she died. The Unicorn King tried to attack the Princess but was driven out by her guard. When he arrived back at the Equestria nation, he tried to explain what had happened, but the other rulers had thought that he had declared war on the Crystal Empire and couldn’t afford to be at war with them when they had so little supplies. The Unicorn King was dethroned and told to leave. Furious, he started reading all he could on the dark arts. He learnt all he could to get back at the Crystal Princess, to find the perfect spell for that self-adsorbed egoist. Then he found it, a spell that would reveal her true nature... Going to the Crystal Empire, he waged a one pony war on them. He controlled the crystals they prided themselves on, he stole their precious Crystal Heart, and then he turned their Princess into a hideous monster. He turned her into her true nature; a bug-like parasite that fed on love. Her subjects still fought for her though, so he turned her guards into the parasites as well. He held anger against them for when they had thrown him out. And then proceeded to erase the memories from her subjects of when he turned the Princess into a monster. Now all they saw was a terrifying creature. Her own subjects chased her out of her own Empire. None of them knew where the Princess was, but they couldn’t think about it for too long, for the exiled Unicorn, was becoming a King again, The King of Fears. He took over the Crystal Empire, enslaved the ponies, and tortured any who fought against him with their worst fears. He had won, he had enacted his revenge and had come out on top. He soon forgot why he was angry at the Crystal Ponies though, his dark power taking over instead of being controlled. And before he could wage war on the entire Equestria, two gods banished him to shadows. He was thrown below the ice and sentenced to hell, but he wouldn’t go alone. The Crystal Kingdom was dragged with him and was never seen again. Locked in shadows. The shadows were dark, endless and black. No one saw anything, but there was one light; The Crystal Heart. It shone within the darkness, the face of the King’s daughter reflected across the crystal trying to find her father. But he would never see her, how could he when he never thought to open his eyes… -------------------------------- But this isn’t the end, the next part of this story has yet to happen. The King has vowed to return, and with him, the Empire. But will he continue his path of destruction, or will he find his daughter’s light and be taught to open his eyes.
